Hey all.
Dragon Age worked perfectly well the first two days. I got the DLC without incident and played it for HOURS ON END.
Now I can be in for about 5 or 6 minutes. Those 5 or 6 minutes run perfectly fine, on any part of the game (New Game, Loaded Game, Download Content Screen, etc.)
And then my computer shuts off. Simply turns completely off: Nothing freezes, nothing warns me ahead of time, it just turns off. And only while playing Dragon Age.
I did a System Restore to when it WAS working, which didn't help. I reinstalled the game, which didn't help.
Is there ANY precedent of this for anyone else?
Please help,
SamAndrews

Check your fans it sounds like one of them is clogged or stopped working

Computers that seem to power themselves off could be for a number of reasons including:

1. A power supply that is going bad. As they go bad, they generate less and less power. Games such as Dragon Age draw more power (CPU, 3d graphics, etc) than a computer idling at a Windows desktop. Solution: Replace the power supply.

2. Computer could be overheating. Many of today's computers will shut off when reaching dangerous heat thresholds that could cause severe damage or even start a fire. One primitive way to check this is to take the cover off the computer, aim a floor fan at it and see if the computer lasts longer before shutting down or no longer shuts down at all. If so, it's likely there is insufficient cooling within the computer case. i.e. possibly a fan going bad (check to make sure they're all spinning) to a case filled with dust bunnies. Make sure all the fans on your PC are spinning, (i.e. video card fan, cpu fan, power supply fan, etc).

3. Your power switch could be messed up.

4. There are other reasons

Since you didn't know about these possibilities, I'd recommend getting a qualified tech to look at the system-- if it's one of the above problems, it's easily repaired.

If its shutting off...then sounds like your computer is overheating.

Try and take off "Frame Buffer" if my hunch is right that lowered how hot my graphics card was running by like 10-20C.

Or just lower graphics option perhaps might fix it.

Pop open your case and place a fan to blow right inside. Sounds like either your motherboard or CPU is overheating from the strain the game is placing on one or both of them.

Thanks for the quick responses :) I am going to let my computer cool off for a while, I am putting a fan next to to to cool it additionally, and I am going to switch my outlet. Crossing my fingers!

When checking out your fans, some motherboard chips have small fans on them as well, be sure they are spinning/not clogged as well
