I want to know what people thought of this what is everyones opinion on planet scanning?

I like the shooting, I like the story, I like flying around lossing fuel, but the constanst planet scanning for resources got on my nervs to the point. I started to stare at the wall while I watched the Screen and just feel the rumble of the dizzz to tell me what I was firing out a prob for.

I seriously think bioware needs to do a better job with the whole planet scanning thing. I like just clicking on planets like in the first one. It made the game go by quicker and I didn't feel like I was just waisting my time. I got to learn little about the planet and see if it had the resource or credit I needed.  I think that was a great thing about mass effect 1 just looked at planets learned a little and then moved on. Instead of waisting my time scanning a planet for a resource I filled up on about after 30 planets I scanned. I had more resource than I needed. Hell it didn't even help me complete the final mission the way I wanted. Posted Image

I think the idea is not too bad but I think they put too much of planets to search for it... maybe you can have a few to scan and other thing that you can gather some stuff that you need for your upgrade...

Its a step in the right direction away from the mako at least. And i found reading some of the histories of the planets kinda intresting. Plus you dont really have to do it much more afterwards, after you finish the game once (if you imported ME1 stuff that is) every new char gets like 50K of each right at the start of the game..so youll be good with the resources for a good while.

Planet scanning wasn't too tedious. It could have been left out, and I wouldn't have mourned for it, but it wasn't any kind of deal breaker.

It's better than driving around a Mako for 30 minutes. People who complain about scanning tend to obsess over scanning every planet completely and sucking them dry, regardless of whether or not it's a good idea. If you just quickly check a planet and grab the big spikes only, it goes by fast.

The devs should have implemented some kind of trade system for the ressources, would have made much more sense.

Worst.... minigame.... ever.

Just forget the resources and make a system like in Assasin's Creed 2. Maybe a working stock market?

Fun for 1 maybe 2 planets then just becomes a chore, i only mined what i had to, to get all my upgrades.

^ agreed. I think a lot of people don't realize that you don't have to upgrade everything your first game out. I'll admit it's a little tedious, but I definitly prefer it over the MAKO.

Although the idea of a trading system would have been interesting. Especially if you incorporate it into the side missions some how.

I actually didn't mind it. That said, it would have been nice to have some sort of exchange for resources. No matter how many planets I scanned, I always found myself needing element zero and always had far more palladium that I could find a use for.

I would rather scan a thousand planets than do another mission on the Mako where I have to charge up ten Mt. Everest's to get to a mission.

It was just to make exploring the planets more meaningful than me1 but yeah they could have made it more interesting.

hmm..I like it. I would've liked to go to one of the hubs and sell what I mined rather than having to use it for upgrades. I think upgrades should've been purchased.

IT could have been STREAMLINED big time. As it is it's an ugly little timesink that I don't enjoy.

Here's a thought: I noticed on Illium, as you walk through there seems to be alot of stock trading going on. Too bad we couldn't get on some of that...

Buy me some ETF's and short the hell out of those weapons manufacturer's. :bandit:

decent concept, horrible implementation. as a pc player i can scan much faster but its still very tedious. i agree 100% about the sheer volume of planets and the lack of a trade system for other resources and credits.

I actually preferred the MAKO, at least then the tedium would occasionally be broken by a thresher maw or a geth ambush

Bioware tried to change up the pace a little... epic fail? They seem to not be able to produce a simple consumable system. Make a stock market and your own mining ship to generate income at a small rate to BUY not RESEARCH tech.

I love your thinking. The planets should have belong to certain alien races in certain territories. I think this would have worked great with it. This way I didn't get so bored.

It's quite boring, and the worst part is that the mouse pointer is moving too slow. And of course the game doesn't allow to change mouse sensitivity...
