i dont think its bad and honestly you dont have to do it too much once you complete your first character

^ agreed. I think a lot of people don't realize that you don't have to upgrade everything your first game out. I'll admit it's a little tedious, but I definitly prefer it over the MAKO.

Although the idea of a trading system would have been interesting. Especially if you incorporate it into the side missions some how.

the Mako wouldnt have been as bad if it wasnt for those hills the next game they should have a monster truckPosted Image
its not the most exciting mini game but my characters after the first file did not have to do it much plus the feeling you get when you find alot of a resource is good

Exactly someone who gets it.

would have been cooler if you could trade resources on the illium market..you know like...an in-games commodity trader.

Oh but wait..that would allow good players to skip redundant time sinks and unneccessary tasks like scanning each frigging planet -_- ...only to have their end game resources at

20k, 5k, 100k++, 100++k .

And yes - I did upgrade the hell out of my sniper/assault/biotics/armors/all ship stuff/ perfect ending.

It pissed me off trying to find irridium.

With refinement, I think it'll be a lot better in ME3. But as it is, it's not much better than careening about in the Mako.

Yes, one character for a perfect ending. It why I did every planet and every upgrade, god was it boring. The wall people the wall.  A trade system and illium would work great and liara as your stock broker/account would make the game environment even richer.

I'm sure they had an inkling, but considering how much is a vast improvement in two years of development, I can let it slide.

I want to know what people thought of this what is everyones opinion on planet scanning?

I like the shooting, I like the story, I like flying around lossing fuel, but the constanst planet scanning for resources got on my nervs to the point. I started to stare at the wall while I watched the Screen and just feel the rumble of the dizzz to tell me what I was firing out a prob for.

I seriously think bioware needs to do a better job with the whole planet scanning thing. I like just clicking on planets like in the first one. It made the game go by quicker and I didn't feel like I was just waisting my time. I got to learn little about the planet and see if it had the resource or credit I needed.  I think that was a great thing about mass effect 1 just looked at planets learned a little and then moved on. Instead of waisting my time scanning a planet for a resource I filled up on about after 30 planets I scanned. I had more resource than I needed. Hell it didn't even help me complete the final mission the way I wanted. Posted Image

I like the planet scanning and to get all materials for all upgrades actually doesnt take that much scanning.

I actually used some of the tips Christina gave out. That and I upgraded it. I didn't mind it that much. I hit moderate/rich planets.

Picked up the ship upgrades, and better scanner too

If you want to scan everything, sure it'll get tedious. Thing is, you don't really have to scan everything to get enoughven less so once you have beaten the game once. What they should have done though, was to make the scanning toggle on or off, so you didn't have to hold down a button til your fingers cramp up while scanning.

It could just be that I own ME2 on the xbox, but personally I don't mind it, at times it can be tiresome but all in all, it's enjoyable.

Really the only issue with planet scanning is on the 360 because the controls are just too slow and clunky for it. The PC version is fine.

The biggest issue with planet scanning is that it replaced one of the most appealing aspects of the original ME. Planet exploration. This was a huge dissapointment for me to see:

Landing on a hostile Alien world and fighting for objectives!!!!!!

Replaced with:

"Really captain? Probing Uranus..."

Unless you import a new ME1 char and then you need to do it again don't you since there would be no carry over?

It's better than driving around a Mako for 30 minutes. People who complain about scanning tend to obsess over scanning every planet completely and sucking them dry, regardless of whether or not it's a good idea. If you just quickly check a planet and grab the big spikes only, it goes by fast.

Outside of N7 planets I maybe scanned 5  more and honestly I'd rather be driving around a barren planet in the Mako.  I know people found the old inventory system tedious and immersion breaking, I had no issues with it though, but this was 100 times worse.  I played on the PC so I had to sit and stare at the screen the entire time.  Don't I ahve any red shirts or an AI that can do this for me?

would have been better to just have the probe cover a vast area then bring up a minimap of the probed region to pick out the resources imo.

I was really hoping we could buy an auto scan upgrade that did it automatically.. but no such luck.

It is boring... but it's better then the Mako driving =P

Although I missed the Mako... I hoped there would still be some stuff to do in it.

You know if they just changed the planets to not all be packed full of the rockiest damn terrian they could imagine that alone would be a huge improvement.

Theres no need to scan EVERY planet you come across. You only need to scan as often as you can upgrade. By the end of it I had around 100,000 in everything but eezo which was useless to me since I had full upgrades for everything.

Planet scanning wasn't too tedious. It could have been left out, and I wouldn't have mourned for it, but it wasn't any kind of deal breaker.

This.

Bioware tried to change up the pace a little... epic fail? They seem to not be able to produce a simple consumable system. Make a stock market and your own mining ship to generate income at a small rate to BUY not RESEARCH tech.

I agree with the upgrade things... I can't tell you how many times I went to a store like "why the f*** can't I sell something?... I need damage protection!"

I thought the planet scanning was one of the worst RPG ideas in a long time from any studio. If you wanted to research most of the upgrades etc you had to spend hours doing. This was tedious to the extreme and IMO was just a way for BioWare to make the game longer.

This!

Most folks didn't hate having a vehicle and driving around, they just hated the poor controls when combined with every planet having steep cliffs. They didn't need to redo everything, just less mountains and clean up the controls.

That said, I don't deeply hate planet scanning, but the thought of doing it again does have me very much less interested in playing the game a second time.
