IT could have been STREAMLINED big time. As it is it's an ugly little timesink that I don't enjoy.

Amen to that, brother. I found the Mako to be mildly annoying, but the scanning is tenfold worse! It's as boring as driving the Mako through an empty wasteland, but without the feeling of being actually exploring anything.

There are a lot of shorter minigames that could have been used instead. the first two examples that come to my mind are:

-Space combat minigame (defeat pirates or the like and grab their stuff)
-Entrance maneouver of a probe (if it passes through the atmosphear without burining, you grab the minerals)

Honestly, its only really bad before you get the upgrade and if you don't spread out your scanning. You don't have to do it all at once. In fact, its better when you don't. It doesn't feel as grindish.

I thought the planet scanning was one of the worst RPG ideas in a long time from any studio. If you wanted to research most of the upgrades etc you had to spend hours doing. This was tedious to the extreme and IMO was just a way for BioWare to make the game longer.

I think they were cut on time and need something to have for a quick catch. Sense all people did in the first game was complain about the mako. I think they should have kept the mako in, but kep the mission like in the main story quests. That crap from the first game was fun and we could have found materials through the exploration part with the mako. Just have it on a set course, but while your on the course you could have broken off at certain parts to keep the rpg element to find materials to use for your upgrades. Also I did kind of miss selling equipment. It didn't really keep the whole rpg element fully intacted. Posted Image

Well either way, don't forget they are adding the hovertank soon... they must be doing SOMETHING with it as none of the current areas would support it.

Yeah but its probably only going to be for the DLC though and the people who can't afford it will lose out. You need to remember not everyone who plays the game knows this. Yes 2 million copies have been sold , but how many people you think will download the tank. I read a report that only 15 percent of gamers do DLC.Posted Image

Unless you're telling me that I can trade excess resources for credits, which seemed to be in far too short supply for my lavish style of living, I found scanning to be boring after a while, but that was after I'd stripped quite a few planets bare of resources. I find too much is never enough.

Scanning is currently the only thing I hate in ME2.. From other posts it sounds like PC gamers can clear a planet with a mouse in 2min where 360 users can barely find the high spikes in 2 min.

I always seems to be low on some kind of resource I want for upgrades, would be nice if we could trade one resource for another on the trading floor in Illiam or something.

Considering that you only need to scan 25% of the planets to get all the resources you need, I don't mind it at all.

I hated 90 degree mako slopes.

I have a character with Mining in World of Warcraft.

Scanning planets is like a vacation to me.

Ok, so if I play the game a second time with the same shepard it won't be the same. Thats what its sounding like, but I like different shepards and I want a perfect ending. I guess the only way to get it is to scann only the rich planets, but finding element zero is a pain.

Lol.....yep... it felt like I was writing 500 times that "I will not complain about the bad vehicular controls."

Scanning seemed so slow and tedious on the 360, and I did follow Bioware's suggestions and only stick to rich/good planets. The game was absolutely amazing on every count but this one.

This.

Seriously, actually being able to explore the surface of a planet, and find random stuff was far better than dragging the mouse over a gas giant (or even an ice dwarf), watching for spikes on the graphs.  I was frequently annoyed by the bounciness Mako and the fact that there were exactly four squad level enviroments, but I'd take it all back to get rid of the scanning...

Scanning the Planets makes perfect sense for gathering resources and upgrading weapons... etc. I was not a fan of the Mako, but it was part of the game. i spread the scanning out and only went for spikes on rich planets. That worked well enough for me. I would much rather scan a planet for a few minutes than driving around for 10 minutes trying to find minerals and tags. It's an improvement in my eyes!

The only thing I enjoy about the scanning was finding the location of the missions. That was definitely alright, but after that it was too tedious.

What is this OCD compulsion everyone has thinking they need to deplete every single planet they see? There's no quest or achievement for it. I wiped out three systems of planets and I still had way, way, waaaaaay more resources than I needed to research everything in the game.

Don't go overboard with it. Just mine what you need. This system is infinitely better than the Mako. However, I also wouldn't mind having a second upgrade for the scanner that has a visual arrow pointing to resource spikes, like how the scanner brings up an arrow for a side mission anomaly.

I find it ok, it's also much more tollerable once you can carry 60 probes. That was the worst part about it for me, the continual heading back to the fuel station to load up on probes. I generally use 5 to 15 probes per planet, getting them to Poor or Depleted. This generally means that you need to reload every half to one system until you get to 60 probes.

Although I certainly don't think it's a perfect system I definitely much prefer it to the helium filled Mako.

Yes, I agree the beginning was very annoying. I wanted to just blow the planets up. Then we could have seen what was in them.

Yeah but they could have fixed that in this new game. It was worth keeping the mako around. The mission example on feros and noveria where awesome. It was a direct path witha bit of exploration and combat to the tea.

I do agree that this is worse than the Mako exploration by far. It's twice as tedious and ten times more repetitive.

However, you can ease the pain. For starters, import a lvl 60 ME1 character and finish the game. Voila, you start with 60k of all resources (you'll never, ever need to mine E-Zero). If a planet doesn't say "Rich" ignore it. Ignore anything less than an absurdly large spike. Makes it tolerable.
