It's pretty clear to me that Duncan is still alive.  We don't see him actually being killed in the Battle of Ostagar.  And in Return to Ostagar, we don't see any trace of his body (although we recover his weapons).

Compare the treatment of Duncan to the treatment of Cailan, a character we know is dead.  We see Cailan squished by an Ogre, and then recover and burn his corpse.

It's only a matter of time before Bioware brings Duncan back in an expansion or sequel.

I'm keeping the weapons....:P

So he'll have to fight me to get them back.

Old thread you may be bored enough to read through

They really need to reinstate the search engine.

I cuncurr. If Duncan had truly died in that battle, I really think he'd have been trussed up like King Cailan.

The Darkspawn would recognize one of their greater enemies, surely. My suspicions: He's either being tortured underground, or may make an appearance in Awakening.

and he is immortal, to kill him, you must take his head, and with it, his power.

I didn't used to think (or want) Duncan to be alive, but I just finished reading The Calling, and it would be so awesome if the darkspawn did capture him. Especially since The Architect is the lead antagonist.

Or it's a thread they posted in - or created.

Or it's a thread they bookmarked.

Or they used this: social.bioware.com/forum/1/search

Or maybe it was enchantment, lol. :D

On topic: He may well be alive - but I hope he's not. Duncan the Ghoul.

Well if he is, I'm gonna be pissed at him. "Oh thanks a LOT for letting me do all the godamned work while you take a vacation you ass-jacket".

He better have rampaged head-first into the source of the Blight and cut everything to pieces, buying me time to run around gathering the army.

Blood magic is an abomination in the eyes of the Maker.

Or as the Chanters would say:

I shall not be left to wander the drifting pages of the Forum;
for there is no locked thread, nor banhammer eitherm in the Maker's light.
And no post that He has typed shall be lost.

Duncan has been overtaken by the taint and is nearly at full darkspawn stage. He'll die soon, if he's still alive.

Before I even got to your post it just dawned on me that Duncan does have a history with the Architect, Duncan does have information that the Arcitect would find vital, most of all Duncan escaped with information that could be harmful to the Architect's plan's n we are having an expansion with the Architect... I don't know about it bein awesome if Duncan would still be alive, the Architect has a way of turning people to his side, of corrupting them... More I think about it the more I'm thinking not good idea lol... If you read The Calling then ya might agree... Lol now I'm finding myself more n more curious about this expansion n whats in store for us hmm

I wouldn't be surprised if the architect recognized Duncan and kept him alive.

*spoilers for The Calling*

After all the Architect does have a fascination with Grey Wardens especially ones that are/have been overcome by the taint. It's quite possible that the Architect saved Duncan so that he could use him in a similar fashion the way he did Bregan.

Duncan will show up at the end of The Awakening. You don't create a character that interesting just to have him say, "Hi, these are the Grey Wardens! I'm gonna go die now! Byeeee!"

Should he even be alive he won't be for too long, considering he started getting the dreams again so even if you should meet him again he'd leave for the Deep Roads soon enough

Ouch! That mix of references caused a great disturbance in nerdiness: as if a million voices suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly assimilated.
