Terrible lag in cutscenes/video, game freezes

As ill-conceived as your argument is, it does not apply to the bug causing game freezes mentioned here. This issue only occurred post the 1.03 patch.
In summary, DAO worked before the patch. It is now unplayable post-patch.

Just out of interest, why should they fix this?
It doesn't run on my laptop - is that their fault?
You must be joking. System requirements are met.
If the game didn't work on your laptop/desktop, wouldn't you feel like you just wasted your money?
I would go and find something it did work on.
Which is precisely what I did.

1. I think you'll find that there were game freezes and lag pre this patch.
2. It's not unplayable for everyone - and it's level of unplayability is a purely subjective argument. For some people the lack of stealing is a major issue, for others it's not.
I don't see that my argument is ill-conceived and I did say that some companies managed the bug thing better than others - Bioware/EA don't in this case appear to be managing it terribly well. What I'm saying is is that it is unrealistic in general and specifically in today's fairly high stakes environment to expect a game, Operating System, whatever to work 100% 100% of the time straight out of the box.
If you want further proof look at mobile phones - half the time a new phone comes out and it b0ll0x until such time as it's at least 6 months old.
Obviously your expectations are that this should not be the case but in the real world, it is the case, and my expectations are set by the real world...
Sorry, but there you go.

I've been playing for half a year now, and the dailogue parts where I have to choose options always freezes up, guess NVIDIA isn't up for it...

Your video card is a mere SHADOW of a thing compared to the Geforce 8800s (with bad drivers?) that are the primary focus of this thread. Those video cards should be doing much better, but they have tons of trouble. An HD 3450 is merely a tinker toy by comparison, and isn't SUPPOSED to be able to run games like this one well.eris wrote...
I also have this issue. ATI 3450 graphics card. If I act quickly, I'm able to make it just past the loading screen post-Harrowing before my game grinds to a halt.
Folks (Bioware), my game is unplayable here. We need some resolution to this not later but now.
Because there seemed to be no rhyme or reason for one 8800 to work fine, while another was terrible, at running Dragon Age, and I owned no 8800 at the time, I tended not to read these threads. I missed the above interchange in this thread when it was timely. However, when I did see it this time around, I was expecting Bass Munkee to end by laughing at Eris for the silly mistake of claiming than an awful little HD 3540 met the game requirements, but he never caught on. Neither of them did.eris wrote...

Here's what it looks like compared to the practical minimum (for medium textures) Radeon:

What video card do you have? Some Geforce 8800 GTs and GTSes have worked just fine, but no one in this thread ever reported back what the differences are / were. Far more 8600 cards have been bad for the game than 8800s. I'm fairly sure that it's drivers, PhysX, and Dx9 that are failing to communicate properly for some 8800 card owners, but as per my note asbove, I've not spent any time trying to match my relatively recently acquired (new, from surplus and overstock sales) 9800 GT to this game (9800 is just a renamed 8800 on a thinner die wafer).Digiflex wrote...

Addressing first things first here. There cannot be "Lag" as that term is applied in (computer) gaming, since it only occurs during transmissions over wide area connections. For non-computer discussions, the word "Lag" can be used as if it is synonymous with "Slow", but the two are different when used in the computer gaming context.eris wrote...

Second thing, the above comment was a wasted use of forum space because the HD 3450 is not supported in this game, being far too slow and limited to play games with (yes, I know I said something similar already, but the latest complaint about slowness is related).
The HD 4350 / 4550 pair (essentially the same) are just a slightly updated desktop version of that same low end choice. It is supposed to be slow, it's not designed for game play. Laptop video cards are not officially supported, and the only "4570" is basically a renamed Radeon Mobility HD 4330, so still too slow.

Sadly, modern laptops have had to be designed to be welded shut in final assembly, eliminating any graphics upgrades.

really? the 4570 is to slow!! then please explain why I can play ME2 and pretty much any other game I have in full screen 1980 x 1080 near to maxed out with no issues what so ever...
ME2 runs on an entirely different engine that Dragon Age. There is no direct comparison. DAO is generally the more resource (or at least CPU) intensive game.

Your CPU is most likely the bottleneck in your system. That laptop processor runs at about 2.0Ghz and is the equivalent of the minimum specs recommended for the game. So it's natural that you'll see lag on some scenes that are not pre-rendered. The solution-- lower graphic settings.

Hi, I found the problem, it was a mod called Dialogue Tweaks that I had installed. Removed it and no issues so far, the dialogue scenes run as smooth as the game now in 1080p
Check your mods guys!!
