So skipping the speech has a role in whether or not someone dies? Darn, that would definitely explain it then. The character I was playing as when Mordin died doesn't like giving speeches, so I just skipped the whole debacle and went after the final boss. Next time I'll definitely have to remember to ham it up for the troops.Austin vas Normandy wrote...
its not a question of loyalty. although it is best to have loyal squad mates, it all depends on your choices made. certian choices will result in others dying. an unfit leader for squad two could've done it, a bad specialist choice, or using the wrong dialogue choices. if you say we better hurry up during the final speech, it becomes twice as likely that a member of your team will die. it is all based of decisions you make. nothing is left to luck.

im not sure if its skipping the speech, but i do know specifically that if you say we better hurry up than the longer it takes to get the job done, the more of a chance your team can die holding up the front lines.
Nope. I chose we better hurry, and everyone lived.
Because it seemed to me like, if you choose, "someone has to hold the line", you are asking someone to sacrifice themselves.

huh, thats pretty wierd. i guess its hard to say what will prevent all from dying. everyone of my guys made it. i was just using personal experience, but so far, i haven't seen much of the same results

on the last mission mordin and thane died. i had all upgrades and loyality missions done(except thane's i messed up on that), i didnt send either one of them to do anything. i can see why thane would die but why mordin loyality was done.

Garrus - Fire team/Diversion team leader
Samara - biotic shield
Mordin - escort
that worked for me

Miranda - Second squad, first time
Jack - Biotic
Samara - Escort
Miranda - Second squad, second time (though I don't think it matters the second time?)
I thought Zaeed would be able to handle it the first time, but he got Tali killed, so I reloaded and tried with Miranda. I'm not sure how BW decided on the people more capable than the others. Inspirational ability, maybe? Miranda's not inspiring, per se, but they know she's capable... though so is Zaeed.
Ah well. All I know is, that works. So long as everyone's loyal. Which everyone was.

First team leader: Miranda
Biotic protection: Samara
Crew guard: Grunt
Second team leader: Garus
I gave a speech.
Everyone was loyal.
Mordin died holding the line.
Thing is..I've read of people doing the exact same thing, make the same placements (heck, I had a friend do the same things, same choices, same loyalties, upgrades, etc) and having everyone live..
