You know, as much as some people *might* jump down your throat for that last part, I think it's the most valid reason for *not* including a gay Shep.  If not handled very carefully, there's a chance of making straight guys (the largest sector of the gaming audience, especially for action-based games like the ME series) squirm.  I think that's probably the most likely reason, despite everything else said here, that Homoshep hasn't been getting any lovin'.

I'm not sure as many straight guys as you think are as squeamish around another guy hitting on them. I don't know, maybe it's where I grew up, but neither I nor any of my friends would be grossed out by it. It could also be an age issue as well. I mean, what's to be grossed out by someone finding you attractive?

It's like a girl you don't find attractive admitting they're attracted to you. You tell them you're not interested and you move on from there. Or, perhaps there is a greater distress associated with that situation in America. I can only assume you're American, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

Im English actually :P

EDIT : Ryuuchi, a lot of people have agreed that your posting pics and creating gay scenarios and obsessing is sad. You're just a troll. Back to talk about me to someone else as you don't want to come right out with it. Read the last few pages, this is what happens without trolls like you. sensible debate.

I have to admit the animation when shepard walks up to kaidan is a bit...ho-yay-ish, but once they start talking it's clear it;s just 2 friends talking.

No joke...that whole animation with Shepard walking coyly up to Kaidan under the heat lamps that made the entire room look like backstage at a softcore shoot, while Kaidan wipes sweat from his manly brow, was obviously, obviously made before the whole bisexuality thing was cut.

Okay so since it bothers some people so much as to wanting Kaidan... I'll go with Hendel. He's already gay, and he's already in the Mass Effect universe. Although that would be a stretch as they'd be adding a full fledged gay character instead of a bisexual one. Compromises are acceptable!

Hehe... it's the bicep flex, I tell ya.  The casual rub of the back of the neck and the arm flex every time Shep walks by (especially when it's coupled with a slow turn and an uncomfortably long silence)? No straight guy does that. :)

He's just been putting long hours in man, hunched over that bench, got a bad neck.

Well, I have no idea what popular opinion is like in Britland. Sadly, we Canadians just import American media. There's very strange beliefs south of our border.

Anyway, it could also be an exposure thing. I know gay people (does that qualify me for something cool?), and I've been hit on before. Personally, I was flattered and it wasn't really that weird. No weirder than some girl coming over and hitting on me. But then again, I feel that Canadians are kinda moving past a lot of the cultural issues of homosexuality likely in part due to the legalized marriage and what not.

At any rate, I fail to see how it can be that disturbing but I confess that I've been exposed to many different gender issues and the like.

I come from a very rigid mining background. Working class, coastal people. Deviation from the norm is not something most people around here deal with too well. And I'm easily in the most cosmopolitan group. Lol.

So blatantly obvious that it would not be amiss to allow the potential to romance him in ME3 or dlc :P because it would change nothing that is already as it is in the main story or how Kaiden is now. Because, the "setting" for it is still there.

Oh no no no I didn't mean compromise as in making Kaidan or Thane bi. I meant compromise as in the options setting and a new character. I think combining the two would be the best approach. A new character would avoid any changes to existing characters and the options setting would prevent any potential discomfort or change in perception of Shepard.

Both sides would benefit from the inclusion of a new character and the gay side would get our m/m romance.

I'm sure some people don't agree with me, but I'm happy to find a middle ground that is acceptable to both sides.

BioWare is a lot more likely to listen if the majority of the fanbase can agree and provide a unified front. Much more so than if we're all fighting and yelling at each other.

And yes. The thread is greatly improved by civil discussion. It's so much easier for all of us to clearly express our points of view and, more importantly, understand each others.

It would be more civil if people realized everyone didn't have to agree with them and if they didn't want others making half baked assumptions about them to not do the same.

Then again that's probably too much like common sense. <_<

Well, I'd be more than comfortable with that. New character + menu option for completely removing gay dialogue options.
I mean, it isn't likely to happen, sounds simple on paper but with such a multifaceted game, probably quite hard to pull off.

I'm fine with a toggle of sorts but(I think too much into everything mind you) I feel that would make the majority just look bad that they had to resort to a hidden toggle to include male same-sex romance. Sort of a "they're so immature they can't handle it unless it's hidden" sort? I dunno. At least the liberal side would say that, the opposite well they'd be against it entirely. I'm all for compromise though, HOWEVER it has to be done.

I wouldn't mind gay DLC, provided that...

1) It comes with actual, additional gameplay content much like Zaeed/Mako/etc. Even I'm not desperate enough for gay content that I would tolerate Bioware half-assing it and then daring to demand my money for a romance that should have been in their real game.

2) It will flow as seamlessly into Mass Effect 3 as all other romances.

Hm. Would you prefer it with an new character or with an existing one though?

I wonder if some gay DLC could incorporate meeting up with Kaiden right after the mission is over yet before ME3 takes place and starting a relationship.

That would be interesting if done correctly.

Maybe after the end game you attempt to (once again) warn the Council and they blow you off (not like that's anything new  ) and you run into Kaidan (if you saved him) or Ash. They tell you about some intell they found that could provide a small bit of more insight as to why the reapers want humanity and while the two of you are going on that mission (if you're not romancing them already) you can choose to romance them as either gender.

Of course my idea needs major tweaking to be pheasible but its a start. ^_^

Still a new character in 3 would be bah. I actually would prefer Kaiden but I suppose anyone would do the all male alien race would probably be implemented. So BioWare can fall back on their "Its not gay if its an alien." excuse. I just hope they're not too feminine that would suck.

I think we've established that the dev's shouldnt mess with Kaiden or any current characters. Just by talking once to them in ME1/2 their stories are established. Get over it, Kaiden gaymance not going to happen. I'm sure you keep posting that to try and provoke me.

The fact is for 100 pages all you've really said is "I WANT GAY KAIDEN!! WAAH WAAH WAAH! You havent even discussed more viable options.

I'm against a toggle. At some point, if the developers are going to include it, the fans need to accept it as content. I don't think this an issue that will be solved by the player base coming to an agreement. It's entirely up to BioWare whether they put in a gay romance or not. Given their track record and some content recovered from the disks, it's fair to say that they've seriously considered adding the romance.

If they do add it, then it's added. But, at least from the DAO forums, people were requesting toggles for everything under the sun. A toggle for helms, for blood, for dialogue for this and that. Each toggle adds extra development time, takes away from them working on content they want to add in and is probably more annoying to program than we think.

From previous developer posts, I really don't think BioWare is a fan of any toggle solutions. This is an either or, I think.

Ooooh, that sounds interesting! It could also go for existing members, but then I'm not sure how much programing that needs to be done for that to be possible. :o

THIS

Giving us Kaidan really would solve all these problems I think simply because it would not change his character because of all myprevious statements of/about him.

Wishfull thinking? Yes, but it is still my opinion on what i'd rather have. WIth how ME2 ends, it seems to me its going to go intos ME3 seamless without a gap (like ME1 and ME2 did with the 2 year difference).  Meaning introducing a brand new character romance in Shepards conclusion kinda feels.. I don't know.. Strange? Oh well.
