I'm going to agree with James on this one. As cool as a Kaidan, Thane, or Garrus romance would be for male Shepard, I don't think it would be fair to suddenly give them the possibility of being attracted to the same gender. New characters are fine, though.

Thank you, another person who sees sense :D

Well it certainly can't be Garrus. I mean, if he were going to hit on Shepard it would have been long before now. Their relationship is strictly platonic. If even that. I guess it's a bromance? I don't know, I kept getting frustrated with him because he wouldn't talk to me.

Sigh...here to troll it up? Go read the last 5 pages and get with the ACTUAL debate. Whether you're on the front page or not, it make's little difference as there's only 15 people actively discussing the thread.

You know, I realize I've only followed the last twenty pages or so. How did this thread reach 100+?

I avoided most of the first bit too where the trolls went rampant and the devs came in and started banning people...

On the issue with Garrus though. I do think he could have gone either way in ME2 -_- his romance was so tacked on anyway it -should- have worked for either. I think BioWare kinda failed on that one, not saying I want him(he's waaaay too alien) but yeah. If you're gonna do the "It's okay if it's you" thing they shouldn't have done a double standard as well. Anyway!

Garrus and Shepherd are like Jack Bauer and Tony Almeida, up until season 5 at least :D

Even Garrus is established as a straight Turian. "I had the reach, she had the flexibility" :D Ftw.

If done tastefully, but I do find it late in the series to add a M/M romance as anew character only in the third game.
If they tastefully just updated ME1 and ME2 (little effort) for Kaidan, it could then carry through to ME3.

Otherwise I don't see it actually happening in Shepards trilogy.  It could, but, I still would prefer Kaidan simply because it makes sense to me (and not only to me).

It would change NOTHING for your interactions with those characters. Only those who choose to follow those interations. Simple enough.

And yes it would. As I said, their dialogue has already established they are straight. Not Bi. Straight. It's clear as crystal. 9 times out of 10, men who have loved women, are straight. Hate to break it to you, that's the facts. And turning all the male characters BI just throws any strong narrative out of the window.

My only problem is the continuity, there would have been at least something in the first 2 games about possible bisexuality on their part -_-

Myabe some kind of revelation would be possible for it to work, but it would feel too artifical and forced to me and it would disrupt the fan community of the character, a new character is the best way to go

But, Thane and Kaidan were MEANT to be bisexual but taken out at some strange point in time.  And some ppl who've found the files in the game messed with them and if they romanced kaiden in the first game due to the mod or w/e it is it integrates fine into ME2...

I have to agree with the Kaidan making sense. Garrus is kind of iffy but as is Thane but mostly I don't see them with a DudeShep. Is it possible? Of course. But I just wanna be able to have an epic 3 game romance like everyone else. :crying:

Still bisexual maliens better be smoking hott if they exist. B)

LoveAsThou, dude, I accept you like Kaiden, but mate, he's in love with a girl. Unrequited as well, aint no love like unrequited love.
And no, it could not be implemented without screwing the game. First of all, they'd have to release DLC for ME1, which is just totally unfeasible. Then patch in the continuity for ME2, again, I think they'd sooner work on ME3.

People (Ryuuchi and LoveAs) keep posting that Kaiden makes sense, but no, it doesnt. It's just your crazy ravenous desire for it to happen.

I'm sorry if I got abrasive but I mean come on, they've already stated their wishes and hopes. Tehy aren't really furthering the debate here. Surely it's energy better spent on discussing an implementable optoin that would appease both sides?

The problem here (if you chose to see it that way) is that there has already been a precedent set with situations like this. Case in point: Garrus and Tali.

People wished and hoped for them as LIs, despite there being no indication of romantic interest from either of them in the first game. Those people voiced their concerns, gave their opinion, garnered support, made bigger threads, and with louder support, brought the subject to the attention of the devs, and didn't stop until the option was given to them.

The precedent has been set that, if you are loud enough, civil enough, and persistent enough, there's a chance your pleas might be heard.

In response to James: I actually feel like, were we to alter an existing character to be gay/bi, Garrus would be an excellent choice. His Femshep romance makes it clear that he's in the romance because of who you are as a person, building a relationship off friendship, trust and respect. Those qualities can easily be transferred to a M/M relationship, especially taking into account the gender neutral interactions Garrus has with Shepard.

Yeah, Garrus and Femshep had a "bromance" too and they managed to muck that into a relationship. :P I'm content with mucking up Kaidan in my mods(yeah yeah) but Garrus, I'll continue to complain about him... He could have been both(I care nothing for Garrus I'm just saying from the story perspective) "I don't like humans at all, but oh you're okay!" How that doesn't work for either sex is beyond me.

And wow I made absolutely no sense there... It's clearly late.

It seems really late in the game to be altering Kaiden though. I mean, the strongest reason to have Kaiden as an option in the first place (so it could carry through all three games) isn't even possible. Best they add a new character, like what was planned with Thane.

...... I guess so... but still without it I don't see even HOW a M/M romance for ME would work even in 3. It would feel tacked on at the end without the enjoyment of being able to carry through the story with said character.

Kaidan just makes sense to me, but, thats my opinion.

O_o

Who's he in love with?  Sorry.  If it's that girl from the first game he talks about helping...he wasn't in love with her.  I don't remember that conversation going that way at all.  If you're talking about FemShep...well if manShep is in the picture FemShep doesnt' exist.

I just don't understand why people wont leave them alone...doesn;t matter what was mocked up in development, the finished product is all males in ME to date are straight, fact. To change that now, stupid, most people agree.

Why can't you just accept a new character? This is the thing that really puzzles me. Most people seem to think it's the best way to go, but theres a few of you still vying for current toons to change, it's just wrong.

As for the Garrus/Tali fans, I'm pretty sure the fans weren't THAT influential. But even if they were, opposite sex romance is what the vast majority of people have and are used to so, less of an issue.

I can't believe anyone would buy a game three times. I bought FES and regretted that decision.

I am not a fan of Director's Cuts, Collector's Editions or whatever they call it. I'd buy a bundle for Mass Effect, but that's only because I don't own them on my own.

SCREW REALISTIC.

I  Want
FANSERVICE! :o (Clipping could be avoided by long ponytails mostly)

Heck Miranda walking around in that outfit threw realistic out the bloody window.

Edit: I actually didn't regret buying FES it added a lot of backstory. (And closure along with more angst for the poor MC. :crying:

Now that I have had time to process it in a rational manner...
I must agree.

Here's why:
Making Kaidan, Thane, or Garrus romancable in 3 would make it suck even more than we couldn't romance them before. In theory some storytelling could explain it, but even then if Kaidan was suddenly romancable most of us, myself included, would be annoyed that it wasn't that way to begin with.
