So what do people want to see, every character as bi? Or just one character homosexual?
In the case of ME1, where there were only three potential romances and only one single male romance recipient, I don't think it would feel that out of place if the three of them were bisexual. In fact, that was how ME1 was originally designed and intended in the first place.
But in the case of ME2 where more than half the squad members were some kind of romance options, I think all of them being bisexual would definitely feel forced, yes. In that case the Dragon Age approach of two same-sex options, one for either gender, is what I would prefer.
On that note I would add that tthere's basically no way that the ME team didn't seriously consider making Thane and Jack to be the two options in this game; if you go through their romance in this game, you'll notice that there's quite literally no gender-contradictory dialogue whatsoever. Thane could quite easily be speaking to a male Shepard, and Jack to a female. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised at all if we eventually find out that Meer and Hale had recorded same-sex romance dialogues for them as well, just like they did for Kaidan and Ashley in the first game.
I think it's the fact that they obviously considered it, and yet backed off at the last minute, is what annoys me personally about the situation. The pandering of ME1 was bad enough that you could have a lesbian romance but not a gay male romance. In ME2 they obviously put time and effort into crafting a wide breadth of options with an incredibly eclectic and diverse ensemble, including three interspecies options, and yet
not a single homosexual option for
either gender. The omission is absolutely, ridiculously glaring. It feels so exlusionary as to be borderline
embarassing for the devs.
