Um I personally would think it was kinda awesome...but besides that point, you yourself use the term "stereotype," as in, you know that it's not necessarily true.  Gay men and women can be badasses, and often are in real life.  Stereotypes exist to be broken, and Bioware has a decent track record of doing so.

Honestly, "you people" should want this for us almost as much as we do. If you had any business sense at all - you would know that you don't want any percentage of the player base turning around and purchasing some other companies games.

We want to play Mass Effect. We don't want "equal" - "equal" would be 3 heterosexual and 3 homosexual romances. We don't even want a "gay" romance - we've been okay with a bisexual one because God forbid the spoiled, calcified majority ever had to go without something.

We want at least one option - which homophobes never have to even see - that will increase our enjoyment of the game/increase Bioware's profits/ and keep the company as strong as it can possibly be so it creates quality games for the future.

And Justin2k, your "percentage" is purely biased sophistry.

As for "topical" - it IS topical. Shepard is a soldier, and the stereotype by ignorant bigots is that a soldier couldn't do what Shepard does. Adding the option "could" have been more than pandering to a bunch of screaming consumers - it could have even been a statement had Bioware wanted it to be. Any art worth calling itself that - changes minds more than it dulls them.

A: This game must have heterosexual only because for some reason despite having an option I don't want them to have one out of spite
B: This game must have a homosexual option because BioWare has done it before
C: It would be nice for this game to have a homosexual/bisexual option because BioWare has done it before.
D: This game could have a homosexual option if BioWare wants one as long as it doesn't infringe on the heterosexual options
E: I'm a troll and come in here to spew homophobic statements
