How is it selfish, Justin2k?

Please don't feed the trolls. Please. Joker will give you a kiss if you don't. <3

I'd rather just be friends with Joker lol

In that case he'll give you a bro-hug or pound depending on preferences. ^_^

I'll happily take the kiss though.

Edit: Chris: Is talking about the ME characters in general off topic?

ME characters are ME related so i would guess they are on topic :P

And who would want to bro fist joker when you would break every bone in his hand and his wrist most likely :P

a pat on the shoulder will do...Also, if i remember correctly i thought he walked with crutches in ME1, did he get fixed up a bit in ME2? if so i missed that part!

I don't know I actually think the model is hotter than default Shep. I need to find some pics with him with long hair.

He's much hotter with long hair. ^_^

If only this is how default Shep looked. :crying: At least then everyone one and their mother falling in love with him would make SENSE. <3

Very nice; active moderator rather than thread-wide lockout. Kudos Mr. Priestly.
Ofcourse now we actually need to talk about the subject-matter itself rather than argue with the trolls, which is always easier than talking actual sense, which is undoubtedly why it's so popular.

Now, what I think we need is cold hard data, or at least credible estimates. Namely, would it increase the game sales to have actual same-sex options in the game? I would certainly say yes, but only with a few reservations.
I don't know if Dragon Age actually increased its sales with the option; it wasn't exactly advertised, and though without doubt many people were glad to have it, it didn't make a too great impact. Just one detail among many that made the game high quality. As funny as it may sound, invoking controversy and scandal might actually be the best way to get a genuine sales-boost out of the option. It worked extremely well for Mass Effect 1, after all. But it mustn't seem like baiting, either; the reaction needs to be natural, not invoked.

The biggest trolls and flamers here are ninjaboy and Ryuuchi and no ban.

The ones attempting to keep the thread straight (so to speak) and on topic. Yes, clear troll-activity right there...

Thsi topic is for the discussion of homosexuality in Mass Effect. Discussing characters in this regard is fine. If you want to discuss characters in some other regard, then start a new thread.

People complained that this thread got closed becuase BioWare restricted discussion on the topic. This was untrue. We closed the thread because people could not keep discussion civil and stay on topic. I am trying to keep this open, so stay on topic.

.. The way I see it is, if Shepard is able to have a lesbian relationship with Liara, why would they exclude a male homosexual relationship? I personally couldn't care less if they add it or not, but I am seriously bothered with the extreme anti gay bigotry in this forum, which leads me to believe that its filled with high schoolers or lower who havn't gotten out of the homophobic phase yet..

Thanks Chris! :wizard:

So on topic: I really would like to be able to make Venderloo with long hair in the character creator but otherwise hm...who would be a good...believeable bi option. :o JOKER!?!

No....I'm just being optmistic. He's too much of a main character. :(

Though I can't give up hope! Jokermance! <3

I'd say that, out of all ten ME1 and ME2 romances, Thane was the best-written and best-portrayed out of all of them. Hale and Farley's amazing voicework helped in that regard, but the entire scene was just utterly moving.

...Which made me very sad I couldn't do it as a maleShep. :(

He is sexy. I only wish default FemShep had been based of a real person as well. But at least he and Kaiden can show their love for each other. <3 Well even if Kaiden is angry at the moment. :?

It's not just youngsters who are homophobic; homosexuality is against many religions/personal beliefs, especially with the older generation. My father is not homophobic (in the sense that he is not bothered how people choose to live their lives/live and let live philosophy) however I know for a fact he would not be happy with my younger brother playing a video game that had homosexual romances available, nor myself when I was 15/16 years old. I think that just because gay rights has told us that it is now acceptable, doesn't mean the majority of people either personally see it as acceptable, or want it to be overtly in their faces.

As for Liara in ME1 - the asari are neither male nor female so her romance was neither straight nor gay.

And i'll just leave this here, because so far this is all I seem to be hearing- I think, in some sense, it sums the arguements up well to a degree- of course please take it with a hint of salt and satire ^_^ Just a bit of fun.

Edit: Major fail on my part for that not even working lol

Katsaurs - fantastic job on the "photo-roman" you linked in your post :) Had a good and much needed laugh.

I don't know if it would improve sales, but I know a lot of people would be that much more appreciative of the game if same sex romances were included. I think the games deserves every bit of positive feedback its gotten, but I also think it would have been better if I could have played Shep the way I really wanted.

Btw Thank you, Chris for not just killing the thread!

I don't know why i find defShep more attractive than Vanderloo... i think they softened his features ever so slightly for the game. Marc's face looks pointy to me.

Speaking of character Models and possibilities. Here's a completely random but totally on-topic thought.

Note: This is purely my personal happy-thought inducing desire. it is in no way intended as anything more than wishful thinking on my part... Unless of course bioware wants to take it that way...

Get Matt Bomer to Model and voice a DLC character. He played Bryce Larken on Chuck...

He's unbearably attractive, has a great voice, is recognizable to a nerd fanbase, and he's gay.

It would be easy too! Just get Yvonne to woo him over with tales of how wonderful it was working with Bioware and how good it is for ones career to develop a fanboy/fangirl following.

Personally I don't care either way. In fact, I usually never do a romance sequence after I get the achievement. But seriously, this is why Bioware would have done well to just eliminate the romance options for this game completely. Sure, it was a cool touch for the first game but it feels out of place in ME2, which does indeed have a darker feel to it. Its not important to the game (in my opinion) and all it has done is create myriad threads about homosexual relationships, or why people can't romance Joker, or Chakwas, or an Elcor, etc. Its all silliness.

If anything, I hope they drop romances completely in ME3. This is Mass Effect, not Leisure Suit Larry.

The scene with Kaiden in ME 2 would have been more powerful if I had the opportunity to romance him in ME 1.

As it is, I won't be going back to play a female just to see what those romances "would have been like".

If I have multiple play throughs - I want them as Shepard who happens to also be gay. I don't want multiple partners to chose from (well, I do, but I see that for the unreasonable request it is) I'd like just one, maybe two.

Shepard is a strong figure in the current gaming culture - and certainly a strong figure in Bioware's cast of characters. When that figure is stated as a certain way - it excludes all others. Yes, there is a "canon Shepard" and if they want to state that one is straight - fine.

But in the editor - I can give Shepard dark skin, white, and every variation in between. I can have a blue eyed Shepard, a green eyed Shepard - in the game, my Shepard can work with Cerberus willingly or fight against them.

But - my Shepard cannot have someone to "love". It doesn't matter if the romances are written poorly ( I wouldn't know). Interest in the characters goes beyond the game (look at the Tali and Garrus threads) - and it doesn't matter about sex. It's story development.

And I'll repeat myself over and over until they state plainly that they will no longer produce this content or future characters get a maximized amount of options .

Parents can and should monitor their kids' video games and, if they find it objectionable, are perfectly within their rights to not allow their kids to play it.  That does not mean that games should not continue to portray whatever diversity and dramatc material it wants to.  My mother is hardcore devout Buddhist and lectured me whenever I play any game with any sort of violence, including Mass Effect; does that mean no one should ever make violent games?  If we censored all material that any parent anywhere found objectionable, there would quite literally be no games whatsoever in the entire world.

Regardless of whether the Asari are male or female, they are culturally and socially women.  And regardless of whether they are male or female, they are attracted to both genders of humans...which would make them, by human standards and the gamers' standards, bisexual.  And a female Shepard who romanced Liara would definitely be a lesbian.

And if you believe that, I got some swamp land I can sell you. From their cultural standpoint they're not gay or straight, but for humans if a woman is attracted to an asari, she's definately at least bisexual. When someone looks like a woman, acts like a woman, sounds like a woman, and works biologically like a woman, then she's a woman, species be damned.
