But like I said, their shepard, their game, their rules.

Not yours.

Believe it or not but the people in this thread don't have the families of the developers stuffed under their floorboards until they promise to give a gay Shepard. This thread is one of suggestions, and attempts to convince the devs that the choice would be a worthwhile addition. Game developers are not gods who lay down their immutable decisions down to mere mortals; they are, at least in the case of Bioware, people who appreciate player feedback and listen to suggestions.

They literally gave the FemShep players who romanced Liara in ME1 nothing, other than a slap in the face, and thats why there are so many folks upset, and all these threads protesting what they did.

Well, at least they did promise in the game itself as well as on boards that the relationship will continue throughout the trilogy. But ofcourse a similar relationship less shallow than the one with Kelly would have been more than welcome. I wouldn't call it a slap in the face, but it did show some rather bad judgement.

Well apparently the polls are doing well. XD The people who want an option seem to far outnumber the ones who don't.

Not to be a spoilsport, but those of us who frequent the forums and seriously discuss such topics are more likely to belong to BioWare's core fanbase, which is into strong RP elements given the sorts of games BioWare tends to make.  Not sure what the more casual ME2 player would say about this.  Still, happy to hear that!

Usually the casual base is the neutral one isn't it?

I hope so. And aren't they the ones least likely to realize there's a gay option in the game until they start playing it?  And as long as its not in their face some will never even know its their. (which as much as I hate it the Sky approach might be best for this type of game [The male character has to reject all females before hand and make exact dialogue choices to start a relationship.]

Well, the "Sky" approach is more or less the approach they took toward alien romances in ME2. Less so with Tali, but with Thane and especially Garrus's romances, Shepard has to actively make the first move. I would imagine they used the approach for the same reasons--to not force the romances on anyone who didn't want them, and explicitly make it Shepard's actions that trigger it, and only Shepard's actions. It made it a bit weird RP wise, but I'd rather have a little bit of RP weirdness than have to beat the LIs off with a stick like I did in ME1. Stupid Kaidan and Liara hitting on my Shepard.

I think a similar approach would work beautifully for same sex romances. Again, a little weird RP wise, but it gets everyone more or less what they want without forcing something that may be uncomfortable on anyone. They did it more subtly with Dragon Age's same sex romances, and a few people were unpleasantly surprised by Zevran and Leliana's erm...friendliness. It was side-splittingly hilarious for the rest of us, but probably not the best thing for the person blindsided by that :D

There's that dang buzzing noise again... oh well just keep ignoring it.

Sable, I like the idea of making the romance options something that Shep has to activate by bringing it up. It circumvents all the "ew zev is hitting on me!" complaints.

Yeah the "Beware Zevran's massage." threads were hilarious. But yeah the "Sky" approach would probably be win-win for everyone. (well except those that don't want teh gays in their game and think it'll infect their harddrive) but they are probably as much as a minority as actual gay players.

jtd, please ignore the buzzing noise.

Another thought on Shep-activated romance. Now this might come out all wonky because I'm trying to avoid a possible spoiler but in the convo options with squad members there's always a [ subject ] option. It's not an actual line just the subject of the discussion.

For the sake of avoiding awkward moments it couldn't hurt to have a [ romance ] convo option. That way people know *exactly* what they're doing.

Heck that could be useful now since I've already had two squad members think i'm hitting on them....

Everybody wins! :wizard:

Though seriously Persona does this right with 4s social links. Friendship and romantic paths. And you know what you're getting into. :D

I will, in fact, this will be my last post on the matter.  I was just trying to give Bioware enough incentive to ban him.

A person who actually believes that wall of text would not like Mass Effect 2 at its current state, nor would have played the original either.  Therefore, the only conclusion is that the author's only purpose is to vex.

well technically you have two homosexual options, both female and both not very rewarding in this game...(Staying faithful to Liara, and coming onto Kelly.)

Uah that those stupid post still pop up like pimples on the face of a teen - can`t believe it. Anyway it really sucks there is no F/F option with Tali, Miranda or Jack. I would love to make a new playthrough in ME1 and 2 but I lack of motivation without being able to romance someone I like. I can imagine some people think the same with a male Shepard.

You sound like you belong in the ACLU forums and not in ME. Second of all, if you want a gay Shepard in ME create your own game and then proceed to never procreate or have children. People with your mentality SICKEN ME!

Yeah that does suck. And it doesn't help that BioWare seems to believe friendship can't be as strong as romantic love so you lose a good amount of development with some of the characters if you can't (or don't want to) romance them. :crying:

Tae, ignore him. It goes away if you don't respond to it.

Back on topic though, what's everyone's preference on how same-sex romances should be included? Would you prefer a DLC character, inclusion in an expansion, or just wait until ME3?

I'd prefer an expansion myself.

DLC character could end up feeling thrown together and out of place (although it would be nice to have the option early in 2). And to be perfectly honest i'm just impatient and dread having to wait another 3 years just to get Shep a date.

An expansion could allow it to blend in to the existing story and not feel tacked on. It could also be incidental instead of "yeah here's this DLC to make the gays happy"
