Garrus Fan here, chiming in.
Re: Same-Sex DialogueThis has come up time and time again as an issue, with the proper implimentation of same-sex
romance (not sex, romance). However, I should point out that pretty much ALL the romantic dialogue in ME2, and even in ME1, is surprisingly gender-neutral. While some of the romances might look awkward using a different model, the actual dialogue itself is completely neutral, and could easily be geared towards Shepards of either gender. I'm not entirely sure how the argument of "resources and time" is an issue, considering that a change of character model + gender-voiced lines = huge expenditure of money. I mean, look at Garrus's romantic dialogue. Or Tali's remark about linking suits (said even to a FemShep), or Jack admitting to having girlfriends.
Re: ChoiceI think that the fear for most of having the choice, is the fear of selecting the choice you don't want. But honestly, how many folks were taken aback or nearly spit your drinks at the almost bulldozer-esque pickup lines either Sheploo or FemShep delivers to hit on
any of the romantic options? I mean, Shepard seems to have all the subtley of a tank plowing through a china shop when it comes to flirting. But I guess it's a step-up from the 'so-subtle-its-invisible' romances of ME1 that seemed to sneak up on you even if you were just trying to be friendly. I mean honestly, the flirtation options are clearly visible, so if the gender check was lacking...is there really a problem? As long as you don't skip through dialogue and speed click through the dialog wheel, there's no problem.
Re: Who Goes FirstHonestly, in some cases I think it would've been nicer if your squadmates approached you, much like DA:O, but only if you showed interest initially (again, like DA:O). I think it would add a level of depth to know that it's not just Shepard who desperately wants to cling to them, but they wouldn't mind, or that they
want you to cling back. But in some cases the fact it's Shepard (male or female) coming onto them, rather than the other way around makes the scene charming (Garrus for example)
My 2 cents. All for same-sex romances!
