"Bioware upsetting gay folk again, censoring LGBT talk"

www.destructoid.com/bioware-upsetting-gay-folk-again-censoring-lgbt-talk-162245.phtml

Curious myself if the gay threads are being censored in the spoiler section?  Haven't been on in a while and I remember the main one being closed down in the general section with a "spoilers" defense.  I certainly hope it was because of spoilers and not a form of trying to bury the discussion!

Okay, time to go play some more ME2...(and yes, I'm all for a gay male Shep option!!)

Regardless of my own boring straightness I would support gay/lesbian options for romances in the ME universe. Hell Jack says she enjoyed some menage a trois with a couple she did jobs with which means there's already a character open to same-sex action. Why can't Shepherd?

I wouldn't make my male Shepard gay but I do support gay/lesbian relationships. I believe they have every right in or out of a game. And it should have been implemented into the game.

Seth Green isn't but Joker? Not too sure about him Posted Image

Ontopic, Bioware should do what they feel is right in the setting of the story and universe, if gay relationships fit into that, go for it, it neither bothers me or excites me, gay people exist and they're all around living normal lives, at least in my country they do but then, they can get married here too, try that in the Land of the Free.

i dont mind kaiden being gay, i have a problem with kaiden going whatever way you want him to go, homosexual people are homosexual, heterosexual people are heterosexual, and bisexual people are greedy.

bisexual people are greedy.

That's just nasty. Not everybody fits in strict categories. Hell, most people don't, but for some reason we still love categorizing.

And really, a full gay option is pretty much impossible for a game like this. It would require writing an entirely new character, modelling them, voice-acting them from the scratch and implementing them in the main story. It's much more economic to just recycle most of the dialogue from a heterosexual romance, and get the character and the models for free to boot.

As for Joker's orientation, he seems to be more into machines than people. Ofcourse now Shepard is a cyborg...

Being straight i would not appreciate a gay romance option. And i would be :( if it would be included. And please don't call me a bigot or someone who hate homos. I actually know a few.

Ranting aside people are talking about deleted audio files, can some one elaborate.

1: The thread is called gay shepard because... we're discussing a desire for gay shepard... there's already renegade and paragon shepards. I'm not quite following this train of thought honestly but that's because I was doing math for 4 bloody hours and my brain is mush right now.

2: Not trying to lash out or anything but out of pure curiosity, why would the presence of a gay romance option bother you? How exactly would it alter your gameplay experience? (seriousquestion is serious too. I honestly want someone to explain this to me)

3. The deleted audio files were the opposite sex romance dialogues as recorded by the same sex voice actors. Which is to say Mark Meer (male Shep's voice) recorded all of the KaidenLove audio used by female shepard and Jennifer Hale (fem shep) recorded all of the AshleyLove dialogue used by male shepard.
Oi that could have been said in much simpler terms i'm sure.. brain mush.
Anyway, their existence causes endless curiosity because the only logical reason for them to ever be coded into the game would be if Kaiden and Ashley were both originally intended to be romance options for both sexes.

Well for point #1: I have noticed that people often identify people based on their either sexual preference or skin color or religion or what have you.  Trying not to bring politics into this, but an example of this is people identify with United States Pres. Obama being black rather then his achivements or records (Just useing that as a example of where i am comeing from, I'm not trying to spark a debate).  I hope that clears my view point up for you. And NOTE: That example is'nt entirely accurate in regaurds to this thread however.

#2: No it't would'nt alter gameplay in the slightest.  As for the Mass Effect experience it would a little.  You know I can't imagine Commander Shepard as being a fruit, after all the things he has done.  Of course it's all up to you on who you romance, but I feel homosexuality is immoral and quite frankly man on man action is disgusting.   I get these beliefs from my cultural background.  Even though the option for a gay romance would be on the table i't still dos'nt mean I would have to persue it, although it would kinda bother me all the same.

#3: I guess that kinda make me more conufused, i get these where deleted but where can you access them, are they tucked away in a programs file folder or something where all the cut content goes?

Posted Image  Not all homosexuals are fruit.. We have gays within the military who are on the front lines and just as effective as our straight warriors.. Spartan Hoplites were all committed in gay relationships till the age of 30, and they were considered the perfect soldiers..  People need to open their eyes and understand just because a person is gay does not equate them to be a limp wristed fruitcake..  Hell a few years back a NFL player who was known as one of the most feared and meanest D linemen out there came out that he was gay..  If anything he was more MAN then either of us.. Personally I couldn't care less if there is a gay romance in it, I have no interest in persueing it.. What bothers me is the ignorance that to me induces laughter of how ridiculous your views are.

So Thane's romance was recorded for both Shepards? Can somebody confirm this so I can quietly hum "I knew it!" ?

Either way, I haven't played Thane's romance yet, he's kinda handsome but I would still prefer my maleShepard to hook up with Garrus.

And this coming from "Captain Cornhole"?  You're probably just being sarcastic/ironic or whatever the hell the word is I'm trying to think of, but whatever.  Anyway, why would you be sad just knowing someone could be gay?  Do you go through your entire life terrified that someone you know might potentially not be straight?  And are you also saying that gay gamers should be sad that Shepard is straight? (And it sounds like we are since we're arguing for a gay Shepard option).

I've decided I don't really care if he can be gay or not and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't add it just for the hell of it.  I'll just stick to being a female Shepard so I can romance Garrus.

Apperently you know enough, that most my posts are not serious in the slightest.  But when it goes to the debate sort of things I'am serious or well mostly serious.

No i would'nt really be sad I should have put something more likePosted ImageorPosted ImageorPosted Image.  If you wonder over to my preivious post I will explain why my views are that way.  And really, you should know better that me being terified my whole life just is'nt so, as I said I know and have some gay friends.  I don't approve of their lifestyle and I would try to convince them other wise, but if they are not trying to hit on me I really don't mind them. But I should have known once i posted some one would crawl out of the wood work to barade me.

At anyrate I respect your opinion, but i think some of your accusations are a little out there.

I never said all homosexuals are fruits.  As for the rest of your arguement that is very true and a valid point, although I am a little rusty on my Spartan history.  But I would hardly call my views rediculous or ignoant, again im a little rusty but most every state that has tried to leagalize gay marrige the voters have repealed it.  In fact they are quite commonly shared.

What does this have anything to do with this? And yes you incited that when you directly said that I don't think Shepard would be a fruit.. This is a directly suggesting that all gays are fruit.. No whether this was just a poorly worded statement, or you really meant it.. Clarify.. The point still stands, you are not a fruit if your gay.. Shepard would not change in the slightest in character..   Yeah I suppose the Jim Crow laws were great too because afterall the majority supported it.. Posted Image  In the end I could care less if its in the game or not, but I find the reasoning RIDICULOUS.. When the femshep can have sex with completely alien creatures like Taurians,  as well as lesbian relationships in the first.. Its a bit of a double standard, does that mean I want it in? No of course not, I could care less.. I just can't stand the reasoning behind numerous people in this thread on why there shouldn't be a gay Shepard..

You guys are twisted. What's the problem? Who is not gay would want to watch your Shepard being gay for something else than getting a fix of his fantasies? This is a video game people, Bioware aren't making games for their desperate fans to drool over because they can't make out.

Who really spends time caring and worrying about what other people are doing - or not doing - within the confines of the game?

Obviously you do - which, as you would say, "twisted" in its own way

Sure, I agree, but the reason why people want this is pretty obvious. I mean, sure there are gays playing games and all and they are a minority, love in video-games never protrayed them and why should it now? The only thing that does is fullfilling fantasies because we can pretty much agree there will be far more heteros playing gays than gays themselves. The romance is such a small part of the ME games, and it's not Bioware's goal to make their romances the more exhaustive possible, but to make the best game possible. This is such a small detail of a game, that wheter or not we care about how people play this, the outcome of this is pretty obvious and I sure do think it's not Bioware's intention.

And I say twisted because people not only want to see sex in Mass Effect, but gay romance (thus gay sex). It's a ****ing video game people. The romance is not even 1% of the game, why bother with something that could very well not be featured at all.

I've played through twice, once with a male Shep who apparently romanced Jack (I loved her but not in that way, apparently I talked to her too much and we were dating) and once with a female Shep who romanced Thane, I also got pretty close with quarian, but in the romances I've encountered in game the dialogue is mostly genderless, I get called Shepard a bunch, Thane says "siha," so it really doesn't seem a big stretch to have any gay possibilities. Why aren't there any? Have we received any word? Will there be a patch? Why was it not included?

I also think it's funny when angry silly people come on and say "Why do gay people want a gay romance" when last time I looked there were no less than FIVE running straight romance threads and a long one on Miranda's pixelated ass, and there have been numerous threads since the board went up, so the double standard, straight romances are OK and interesting to talk about, but gay romance talk means we can't make out with anyone in real life and we are extending our gay agenda to make the entire world (and every video game character) gay. On behalf of gays I hereby exclude all the angry, silly people from that agenda; be straight, please, have lots of video game sex, don't have children because they might be gay and then what would that say about you?

You're just the millionth person to claim this in various threads about the subject. Like everybody before you, you're 100% wrong. Dragon Age: Origins featured same-sex romance for both genders, and nearly every Bioware game after Baldur's Gates has had an F/F option.

The romance subplot is a small but intricate part of the game; it's something that makes us care about our personal Shepard more as a character. It's no coincidence that it's in the game at all, and Bioware recognises that it's one of the things that makes the game distinct from others in the genre. To not include the possibility for a significant minority in the playerbase is not good business, as these threads are aiming to show.
