My problem with the article was the nonesense about Shep being more defined than Warden.
It's simply, inarguably, verifiably, not true.
Again
Shep: 9 Origin Options + 6 Combat classes = 54 different possible Shepards
Warden: 7 Origin Options + 3 Combat classes = 21 different possible Wardens

Being able to play a specific origins mini-mission does not change the fact that Shep has more options available. It just doesn't. I don't care how you shake it, numbers don't lie.

Yes but where you came from in Dragon Age changed the beginning story drastically, In Mass Effect, it really doesn't even matter.

Changed the begiinning drastically? How so? I remember a certain warden recruiter recruiting me now matter how bloody hard I tried not to be recruited. <_< Bloody Duncan.

6 different settings vs 1 setting

You realize that had about as much influence after you played the intro as Shep's background right? Once in a while it was brought up and later swept under the rug. Honestly replay DA and tell me the game is different depending on your origin without massive roleplaying being involved (I.E. getting into your character's head and BEING them). <_<

Yeah but... it was done.

Was it? I thought there were just some recorded lines from Mass Effect. Perhaps there were bugs associated with it they couldn't work out in time. We'll never really know, but I have serious doubts that it was from some worry the gaming public wouldn't approve after doing Jade Empire and Dragon Age.

It was done for the first one at least.
Not so sure about 2, but they at least recorded some dialogue.

That is more than just some dialogue for ME2

I did actually and I found it quite juvenile that they went and included special dialogue JUST for that. How old are we? 12... really? I mean come on.

No it changed one mission. The same way Spacer, EarthBorn, and Colonist gives you a side mission in ME1.
It's exactly the same narrative and exactly the same progression. Shep will Always be an alliance soldier the same way Warden will always be a warden.
There is absolutely no difference, at all, about what you can control in the two games except for a few incidental facial features. That is simply not enough to claim one character is absolutely defined and another is a wide open spectrum of possibilities. it's not.

And, as for the cut content, any defense that it proves Shep was "made straight" loses all validity due to the simple fact that it was done again for ME2.
They played with it a second time meaning Shep's sexuality was still up in the air during ME2' development.
This is not predefined. period.

It's predefined and I have proof from the CEO of Bioware

Gays still making outrageous demands...lol...
I don't see how you can read anything else into Muzyka's interview other than "Tbh, we're not comfortable putting a gay romance out there on this particular mass appeal game, so unlucky. I mean, it isn't like we haven't done it for other games so...stop ****ing? It's our game and our character, and he isn't gay, at all."

And all this "still up in the air" talk is just a load of horse****. Consider, if they made it, and didn't include, what does that say to you? Over 3 years and 2 games...what does that say to you?

And to the person that said "Harry potter isn't gay," What if you were roleplaying him in hogwarts and you got to choose if you were good or evil, and what types of questions you asked. Harry is good in the movie, so it completely makes sense that he could be gay in the GAME. It's like an alternate universe. He could choose to kill Ron, or seduce Hermoine, or Join Voldemort, or marry Cho, because those choices are given.

That explains why the audience isn't believed to be mature enough to handle issues like Shep having a guy hit on him.

Or the ever famous. "OMG Warden can be womenz and your a mage111!!" Right before the dialogue goes back to being EXACTLY the same as with a male human noble warden. :P

You do realize that "We cut it because we had no time!" doesn't sound very good right? Also, if the character were so predefined, they would not have created the content in the first place. Unless BioWare's management really likes wasting the time of their developers on projects that almost never reach 100% completion by the time they ship.

You forgot one bit

"unless its a femShep of course. Then she can be a lesbian"

the "It's our game" argument is stupid. The game is no good to them collecting dust on a shelf. If someone doesn't like something about a game, they may not buy it. In industry, that is what most call a lost sale, which most devs don't like. That's what the point of these threads are; to announce a reason a person might not want to buy a game. It's not a "demand" and it's certainly not outrageous.

Fairly sure Bioware don't care about a worldwide gay boycott totalling 500 people max. Infinity Ward probably lost about 50K sales numbers due to the dedicated server issue, and they couldn't give a toss.

And the Lesbian argument is also moot. Asari aren't technically females, they just look female. And maybe, just maybe Bioware "defined" FemShep as Bisexual, and "defined" ManShep as totally straight?

I'm sure no one likes to see the content they work on get cut.

If it weren't for day 1 DLC, an entire character was almost removed from Dragon Age. If I had done all that excellent writing on Shale, I know I would be a little sad over the decision.

Which brings up a point about cut content. Shale was initially removed because his model was too big and couldn't path find through doorways particularly well. There are so many factors involved in getting content into games that it could be just about anything that causes a piece of the game to get scrapped before release.

That's what I love about the DA team though. They're more upfront about that sort of thing than the ME team tends to be. <_<

They even told us how they scrapped Jowan being a party member to my utter dismay. (Honestly the one male mage! Why dev team why?!? oh wait there wasn't enough time and they wasn't sure if people would like him! ZOMG! I never would have known if the Dev team hadn't been upfront withit! :o )
