Playing Soldier/Insanity as my 2nd play and it is tough going.

I have had to rethink my skill set allocation, going for Reave (4) & Concussion (4) as my primary attack strategy along with the squad skills.

I always need to make sure my squad is in a safe place, while I take care of targets one at a time. Otherwise my squad get wiped out pretty quick.

It SUCKS not having adequate supply of Med-Gel. Why was limiting access to Med-Gel a good idea? Game designers wanted Shepard to basically play solo on Insanity and take FOREVER to finish missions? OK, your design succeded.

:)

Although I haven't gotten too far into my 2nd play, Garrus 1 mission and Horizon were just ridiculous. The Pretorian was tough for me until I figured out how to stay alive while my squad hacked away at him.

I can hardly wait for the final suicide mission and getting to each of the vent values quick enough to save Tali or Legion.

I'd love to see a game update with a med-gel dispenser added to the medical bay. I mean come on, I get to start every mission with a full ammo load (sans heavy weapons), why not a full med-gel load?

Hardest part thus far was definately Horizon. Husk waves. Not Scions. Definately not the Praetorian.

It is tedious and I'd love more checkpoints in waved fights, but eh.

I don't know, the hardest part for me was the two Scions.  Then the Praetorian because Miranda kept getting close to it and it would land and regenerate it's barrier.

Modern gamers are wimps that want interactive storybooks.

If you want a GAME though, with worthwhile challenge, then dying is just you realizing that you made too many mistakes.

I just changed the difficulty to hardcore on the N7 missions I did before derelict reaper, but I played Haestrom on Insanity. I found that I was able to make it through some sections with dead squad members, while in other sections, you just need to make a chokepoint where both of them could provide supporting fire as you pulled the enemies towards them. I played as an adept by the way, it was really fun killing husks (one pistol shot for the armor, one throw for the health, rinse and repeat).

I found insanity to be challenging but not to the point where I couldn't win. I think the most I've had to replay a fight is about 3 times and each time I just kept trying different strategies which eventually worked.

Playing as an Adept on Insanity is pure crap.

Freedom's progress was tough as hell. Miranda and Jacob kept standing in the open getting their asses handed. I figured i needed to control them more so i gave orders but those 2 never learned to LOS enemies around the corner. Eventually, I got sick of shift pausing the game every 10 secs to get their asses moving.

Killing the turrets took forever as the most effective skills were Singularity and Warp and they did crap damage against those heavily armored opponents.

The mech was a **** at the last part.

I think I died about 10 times on that mission and spent 90% of combat time behind walls regenerating.

Insanity is evil and i love it. Although Garrus pissed me off during the arcangel mission while fighting the gunship.

Using vanguard. Not entirely fun. Good sense of achievement when I survive though. I'm just playing through like I do when playing veteran on Call of Duty: very slowly.

Rather annoying when I've cleared an area, brought back my teammates, move into the next hostile area, and get stuck at a -glitch- that won't let me freaking move though. Especially without the chance to save in between and I have to solo all over again. : |

i tryed with a few classes couldnt finish the first few missions after a while i decided to go Vanguard (or which ever class gets tech armour) and use miranda and mordon for every mission.

im getting thru up to the mission where you meet kaiden/ashley on the planet.

the fights go for a while baisicly using nothing but tech/biotic powers the whole time overload every shield, burn or warp every armour, and warp every biotic shield they work really well together like using a overload then incinerate and a reave in fast succession (finish em off with pistol if they still alive) krogans can be a pain but they move pritty slow and you have time to hit em with 2x whats listed above before they get close to ya. (except reave untill his armour comes off)

tech armour really does help especially if u get it to level 4 and get the upgrade to make it stronger.

and from what i have noticed reave works wonders too free hp and a stun also stops races with fast regen from healing up also biotic powers like throw and slam works great on husks!

EDIT: i should also add the this is not my first play through but is a fresh me1 save import.

Ps. sorry if i have spelt anything wrong or named things wrong its very late and just finished a marathon me2 session

I'm playing through as an adept on insanity and its quite painful at parts.

My most recent dying spree was on Tali's recruitment mission. Geth Hunters charge straight for me and even telling my squad to focus fire results in them shooting it once then ignoring it... cleared the mission but it was quite frustrating. I'm all for a challenge but I don't like losing because my squad mates are ADD.

Those damn scions are a PAIN! The husks are not really a problem since I just shockwave or pull most of them. But those damn scions!!!

Insanity is bullcrap for some classes, the whole ammo system screws over infils.
Main combat classes should have got double ammo capacity in there main weapon.

It takes 3-4 headshots to kill most enemies with the Starting Sniperrifle on insanity and you only get 1 round from each clip picked up and only start the mission with 10 total rounds.

TO put it in perspective 3 rounds from the hand cannon do the same damage, meanwhile the starting heavy pistol actually has more total damage due to ammount of ammo then the sniperrifle.

You end up having to sit around wating for ammo clips to respawn.....

I have a biotic and sentinal on insanity and the Biotic can do it with powers the Sentinal cant so I ended up editing the game so the starting sniperrifle has a total of 18 rounds instead of 10 and you pick up 3 rounds per clip instead of 1.

Also editd the hand cannon to carry 36 extra rounds. instead of 18.

I know some people will consider this cheating but ammo respawns as it is its REALLY annoying having to wait 2-3 mins for it to respawn halfway though a fight because your char lacks any real combat abilities besides shooting isnt fun or tedious its just down right annoying.

Combat classes should have got a increase in carried ammo for there main weapon type from the start.

if anyone wants to edited ammo send me a pm.

PS the hardest mission on insanity is a side mission involving nonstoping waves of respawning robots :)
If you know what im talking about and playing on insanity and thinking just how hard could it be.. go give it a go.

The boss was actually the easiest part of the horizons part.

Tip for 1st wave, the scions wont hit you if you keep moving in one direction, so get all the husks after you running in a circle and pick everyone off one by one, then you go behind a crate and wait till the scions come after you, then pillar abuse them until you kill them.

(I used incinerate that helped a lot when pillar abusing)

The two collector waves are mostly based on luck by getting into a cover position slowly picking everyone off while they don't rush you. on the boss just get your teammates into a shooting position from afar while you pillar abuse the boss, he slowly dies and GG

It was fun for me up until the last section of Horizon, never could take down the husks fast enough and my team has a fun habit of standing around to get melee'd or being in range of the scions.

The difference can be silly. On insanity a point blank volley from the LMG would hurt the husks..kinda, then you go down to hardcore and it just rips them to shreds.

Insanity is A LOT harder if you import your character from the end of a previous ME 2 game. If you start a new one on insanity, it's much, MUCH easier.

hmm, a friend of mine completed the game on insanity at first playthrough. Myself i did it on veteran and had no problems. Compared to ME1 this game is kinda easy with the improved combat/cover options. Working on insanity now, enjoying the need for tactical choosing of squad and power usage.

I also did this. Started on Veteran, imported a level 28 character into a new "insane" game and I couldn't survive past the first mission (where you first meet Tali). I started a new game on insane and it was ridiculously easier. The OP wasn't lying...three hits, and you're dead. I didn't even have time to sprint to cover. If there were two enemies, I could pull off a sprint to cover with only losing my shields. It was damn near impossible. I played a soldier with barrier as a bonus feat.

Infiltrator or Sentinel is the way to go. Vanguard and Adept make it nearly impossible. Engineer seems to be uniformly not all that great, and Soldier has to be out of cover for too long to do effective damage, thus turning him into swiss cheese.

I can agree that vanguard is extremly difficult to play insanity with, i'm on my 2nd playthrough with a vanguard and I died a LOT when doing the mission to recruit garrus, however I will be very proud when I actually manage to complete the game with this character

I'm dying regularly with a Sentinel. So far most of it was due to carelessness, but there's this one extra-annoying part in the Archangel Base - the one where you have to close the shutters. I have Miranda with me (for Warp/Overload), and she doesn't follow me right. So basically I'm stuck on my own against the Blood Pack dudes. Also, the flamethrower guy is supposed to explode instantly from an Overload, but he doesn't, which makes that part insane. Oh well, a challenge is a challenge - at least it's not a walk in the park like in ME1. My femShep always gets the most beating for some reason...

my first playthrough was on insanity and i just finished the game, and after beating it the first go i couldnt imagine playin on anything else due to the fact that it must be so easy on other difficulties.

problems for me were

horizon- last part is laaaaaame

aria sidquest- where you have to defend the crates from the giant mechs, mistake of tryin that with mordin and zaeed at some rediculous low lvl

disabled reaper- last part in the core room..... now if your playin your first playthrough and refuse to look at stradegies cuz of spoilers so everything is new, you would be amazed how long you run around! killin 20 husks solo tryin to figure out what to do, plus... the mission bugged and i had to fight 3 waves without the core even opening to shoot it :(

tali and legions loyalty- both had there moments...specially if the end of each mission

Just finished an Insanity playthrough with Soldier, Some quick Soldier tips:

Pick the Widow Sniper Rifle.
The Default Sniper Rifle works better than Viper before Widow.
Pick Vindicator Assult Rifle over the Geth Pulse and the Revenant.
Widow kills as fast as Heavy Weapons, and safer too.

Use Adrenaline Rush (Heightened) every cooldown (3 sec.); it grants considerable bonus damage to Tempest or Widow.
When exposed with Vindicator and Adrenaline Rush on, you should be killing faster than you take damage.
You don't take much damage using Widow and Adrenaline Rush.
You can score a kill every other Adrenaline Rush (aka every 6 seconds cooldown) with both guns; it was fast enough for me.

No melee combats; you are squishy. Kite the Husks by shooting their legs with Assault Rifle, and "pillar-dodge" bosses such as Mechs and Krogans when needed.

It is hard to run out of ammo with 2 different types of guns.
Keep up the Assault Rifle and Sniper Rifle upgrades.
I picked Barrier as the bonus skill, but I didn't encounter many situations where I needed the extra health over an extra Adrenaline Rush.

Finished Insanity with Vanguard. I actually enjoyed it very much, felt quite diffrent from other fps where here you NEED to be tactical to survive, especially with Vanguard since its a close up combat class and very suicidal.

Can also provide tips for other Vanguard players

- I mainly used Miranda for team health boost and overload/warp
- Use Charge as a defensive skill.
- Barrier is you're friend
- Choose a teammate which has incendiary ammo and spec it that he has the squad base one, so you wont have to.
- Micromanage you're squadmates.
- Never start with charge when you are in battle. Take cover and quickly elimante the biggest threat with a long range weapon(Heavy pistol/Assault rifle).
- Shockwave and Pull are great crowd control abilities.

When I was in a area with lots of husks I just charged between everyone and shotgunning them. Never lost my barrier shield that way. And I used the infamous "pillar dodge" for charging enemies and bosses.

When all fails use the damn nuke gun to blast everything to kingdom come.
