I had a brief power failure ealier, and when I went back into the game ALL of my achievements, and settings, were wiped, I've lost all of them. Is there any way to recover this or back it up so at least it doesn't happen again, or to restore it?

If you were playing on steam it is a common issue, steam dosent save your game status until you exit it normally, meaning that achievements and settings are all set to recent status, meaning that if your game crashes the game is, in a way reset to default.

To the OP: I had the game lock up, to where even hitting ctrl-alt-del wouldn't let me close the game, so I had to just turn off my PC and turn it back on. I'm playing a boxed collector's edition copy from amazon.com as an aside, on Windows 7 64 bit. After that crash I lost all my achievements on both my characters.

Same thing happened to me, also on Windows 7 x64. I am wondering if there is any way to recover the achievements?I guess I should have played this on the X360 to avoid this kind of mess.

Okay I'm having the same problem. Everytime I turn off the game, it forgets my settings and achievements. I keep seeing this problem all over the place. But I can't find a solution. So if someone is reading this who knows the answer: please help...

I had that problem via steam as well. It wouldn't save my settings. I know I was getting crashes a lot and I did lose the First Aid achievement early on right after a crash but now I'm losing other talent achievements as soon as i get them and the game doesn't even crash.

I downloaded a patch that seemed to fix the crash issue and the settings issue but I'm still losing achievements. I've only lost talent achievements so far and kept all the others. I'll try and get those same achievements again to see if it's possible to even get em back and if they can stay. After getting them I even exited the game to make sure it would save them.

Actually, I've kept the Pistol Expert achievement but lost all the others. Strange.

i got the same problem today. One more intressting thing, the saved games that i had imported to mass effect 2 also disappeard from 1. But maybe that happend alrtady when i imported them, however first noticed after the crash. Hopefully this achievment bug wont affect the save game so that i can transfer it to mass effect 2 without problem when im finished.

PS: by the way running on windows xp, so not a windows 7 only problem

Similar problems here.

I imported one of my characters from ME1 and started playing, without noticing that I could save but not load, until I was a fair way in.

I can save games, and quick-save alright, but whenever i attempt to load a game, no profile or saves appear to be available to load.

I thought this may have something to do with the fact my 'Documents' folder is not in its origional location but mapped to another drive, so I moved Documents back to C: and copied the profile folder, but this has had no effect.

I can however load quick-saves from the 'resume' option in the main menu - and have now completed the game using this option all the way though.

My concern is that if I now import my other character and play it, that my 'resume' option will only see the new character, and I'll never be able to play the other one again.

Would love some help on this if possible!

I was about to go through the Omega 4 Relay, when I noticed ALL of my achievements were gone! I had gotten every achievement except Paramour, Insanity, the Level 30 one, and whatever story achievements you get after going through the relay. All gone now. I was all ready to start a second playthrough and get Insanity, too. Now I'll have to do everything all over again.

All of my achievements are gone too, and I haven't found a way to get them back yet.

I also had to re-login to Cerberus network at start of the game.

As per my post in another thread:

This seems to be a common issue with ME2. Your achievements are tied to your player profile file, which is located under My Documents/Bioware/Mass Effect 2/BIOGame/Profile. If you crash while the game is accessing that file you lose your achievements. I don't know if the file simply corrupts or if it gets deleted, but the symptoms are exactly the same as if you manually wiped that file.

I don't think there's any way to prevent this from happening, but what you can do is periodically 'back up' your profile (example: make a copy of the file and name it Player1.prf.backup). That way if you crash again you can at least restore your achievements to the latest backup and you won't have lost everything.
