"This update for Mass Effect 2 is not for the Steam distribution of the game. Please run Steam to keep your install of Mass Effect 2 up to date."
Does anybody know if the Steam distro is updated yet? I couldn't find it in the ME2 update history.

As a side note, my computer now can run cryisis at max graphics with a pretty decent fps. Dragon Age runs perfectly, and just about every other game runs fine as well. Im starting to realize that Im in a very small percentile of people who seem to be having this problem, but Im still hoping Bioware won't throw this issue out to solve a year down the road.

Long story short -- RivaTuner - setting fan speed, PhysX off, and some graphics card control panel settings:

I run a E8400 dualcore, and an Nvidia GTX 260. Is Bioware capable of releasing non-buggy games? Should I even bother trying to play Mass Effect 3? Because my experiences with bugs in ME1 and ME2 are stupid. There are numerous bugs and issues, they should have pushed back the release. Might as well have, it'll take that long before this issue gets resolved.

I know on other treads that this issue is not just related to single core and Bioware seems to be ingoring this. I know that if this is not resloved and ME 3 comes out I will not buy the game and Bioware or EA should listen because we are the ones who support them by buying their games, a company does't make money if they ****** off their support base like this and I have read a lot of the topics on this and there are a lot of pissed of people out there.

Three weeks ago ME2 launched without crashes. I think it began after installing of new version of Net Framework.
Sorry for my bad english

I've tried (in order):
1.01 patch
setting all settings to lowest, both fullscreen and windowed/borderless
loading screen replacements
-nomovie fix
And it simply crashes (after blacking the screen and changing the resolution briefly if it's set to fullscreen) when I try to start it from the launcher menu.
My specs:
OS: Windows 7 64-bit
CPU: Intel Celeron CPU 92.2
RAM: 2G
Video: Intel GMA 4500M

Window Vista Home Premium 32
Intel Core 2 Duo 2.8 E7400
Asus P5Q-e (on board soundMAX)
ATI 4850 (Catalyst 10 - updated)
4gb Ram
I only havent tried the ATI Cross Fire Hotfix and I must verify if my Windows has recognized the dual core processor...
I'm Runing the game with only Film Grain On and AA filtering at 4x (tried it off and still crashes).
The symptoms make me believe it's not a GPU issue... anyways...
Reading a prior reply, quoted below, it makes me believe that it could have something to do with that FPS drop some people are experiencing, but since they have havier PC specs than I have, it could cause weaker PCs to crash.

This is absurd. I have been bashing my head for over a week to get this game running smoothly. Every 10-20 minutes, I have horrible FPS (1 frame every 10 seconds?!) that lasts for several minutes. It occurs whenever it feels like it. During firefights, conversations, movies, the freakin pause menu. I have tried numerous "fixes" updating drivers, trying different or older drivers, adjusting graphics settings, making sure both cores of my processor work.

Even though Bioware guys don't have a solution or, at least an idea of whats happenning, they should manifest themselves about people complaining... where are U Bioware?

I haven't realy disabled Asus Aitwek (overclock) becouse it has no off option so, I tried to manually input the numbers following most of the factory specs for my CPU and GPU chips.
Then, I've disabled ATI Catalyst Overdrive and had to set my GPU fan speed to 80%, keeping the GPU under 60ºC (Since the avarage day here in Brazil is 34ºC!!!)
Still in Catalyst Control, I've manually set all the 3D options half way up, only, and tried to keep the game settings under that configuration (e.g. A-Filtering x4 in Catalyst Control, since my max is x8 and set x2 in the game config tool).
After 3 days tests, I came to a Conclusion that this is the same kind of crashing some people (like me) were experiencing with Storm of Zehir, the NWN2 expansion... all the symptoms lead to that.
Let's wait for a Bioware position on this!!! Bioware???

No it doesn't. First thing I've made was patching the game and updating GPU drivers.... long before starting posting in the forums.

The patch does not fix the issues at all.
In fact I never played without the patch.

I am playing without the patch and sense I discovered what was causing the the crash I have had no problems play ing the game. For what ever the reason in the iff mission and collector missions the end battle is overheating your video cards. Still feel that bioware should solve this with a patch, but I have put a exteranal fan on my video card whenever I do the end battles of the collector missions and have had no crashes. Read my other post about this if you want. MY specs are Intel 4 3g single core, nvidia geforce 6800, ram 3g, realtex hd audio direct x 10, visia 32 bit. The issues that the patch address I have not had happen in the game with my pc.Tpek wrote...

I own ME2 Deluxe bought via EA Store. + all DLCs installed (except that one from Gamestop - obvious reasons)
I have a problem with switching weapons - game freezing when trying to change weapons (no matter if i try to do it through weapon locker nor squad select during mission/location);
I have played ME2 without any issues till this morning (system change/game fresh reinstall) :
my ME2 gaming history:
1. Vista Ult 64bit/AMD Phenom II 940 @ 3.2GHz/8 GB Ram/ATI 4850 512MB --> worked fine (got to suicide mission with no issues)
than I upgraded video card:
2. Vista Ult 64bit/AMD Phenom II 940 @ 3.2GHz/8 GB Ram/ATI 5850 1GB --> worked even better
than today I changed system (fresh install - different hard drive etc.)
3. W7 Prof 64bit/AMD Phenom II 940 @ 3.2GHz/8GB Ram/ATI 5850 1GB --> all that weapon crap started
I have tried reinstalling/ DLCs removing/ adjusting processes and cores/ playing w/o patch --> nothing has helped - everything ingame works fine except weapon swtching (locker/squad select);
my sytem isn't overheated (its a bit too cool in fact atm), no lags, no sound issues nor graphics artifacts...nothing...only that damn weapon freeze...
could it be that ME2 isnt compatibile with W7 64bit version?
any thoughts?

As per any prior assertions of this nature, if any hardware component cannot cool itself adequately, the only software that you can pass off any blame to is anything that overtly interferes with the fan control, which includes drivers and fan utilities, not games. Bioware has no responsibility for either badly designed hardware cooling systems, or poorly written drivers. Really simple.William e wrote...
