pretty strange indeed.....does not make any sense when you have a new decent pc. my friend have i7 quad core and playing the game flawlessly.

my friend pc spec

i7 quad core (not remember the speed)

win 7 ultimate 32-bit

3 GB DDR 3

1000 watts psu

Gigabyte Motherboard (using onboard sound)

GTX 295 Nvidia (latest driver)

i always ask him if the game have problem with his system and he said never encounter single of it.

sometimes windows can cause problem especially if you install to many software.format and install fresh windows also remedy the problem.i always do it if my windows show some kind weird error and my software doesn't run properly after installed.

never encounter with the problem before and after patching. smooth gameplay at medium setting, disable whatever shadow thing. it could be directx issue since your people using directx 10 and 11 rendering.try using windows XP SP3 compability mode and see if it can solve the problem.

Pentium 4 3.0 GHZ with HT

Windows XP SP 3

2 GB Ram

X1650 512 MB AGP PRO

What? Really?

I'm having 4-5 fps standing on the 'bridge' in front of the galaxy map, but 40+ fps, when looking at a wall, lol. Regardless of whether it's the highest or the lowest setting. Mordin's lab is ~22

P4 3.2GHz HT
Windows 7 Professional x64
3 GB DDR1
X1950 PRO AGP 256MB
(Using this until my actual PC is fixed, and, yes, I tried to set it to compatibility mode)

So, might this purely be low VRAM issue? Because, really, interiors with a view farther than 10 metres drop below 6-7 fps. Maybe we can adjust the texture usage for the game, somehow (don't really have the time to decipher game files)?

it's not vram issue but more to how your gfx card can handle eye candy graphic. directx 9 and directx 10 11 have a lot differences in rendering texture.two thing you can do is either set to medium setting, disable shadow and bloom>for more fps and switch to win XP or fresh install win 7 without installing additional software except driver and update.

that's why i revert back to win XP. i totally not really like to play game with win 7 and Vista because of some incompatibility and stability.most of the game work well in win XP but not in win vista and win 7.

already finish ME 2 5 time playthrough.

problem SOLVED! (at least for me) -
in my case the problem was caused by Catalyst driver (10.3) - why am I so sure?
after almos two weeks of struggle I decided to install Vista 64bit as a dual boot OS - than I used drivers that came with my video card (ASUS EAH5850) and there was no single problem with playing ME2 so I logged back into Win 7 and removed CCC 10.3 and cleaned every single bit of that crappy code from my machine - than I tried to instal ASUS drivers but than SURPRISE!!! I wasnt able to do that because Win7 couldnt recognize ASUS signature o.O after some research I installed drivers from here: http://support.asus....SLanguage=en-us (the top one) without update to CCC 10.3 and voila! ME2 runs smoothly at max details (same goes to Fallout3 with bunch of graphics mods, which wouldnt even start under CC10.3) !!

I guess there must be some incompatibility between Win7 64bit + Phenom II x4 + AUS EAH5850 and Catalyst Drivers 10.3 - maybe its just ASUS EAH5850 and CCC 10.3

btw. sorry for my english - its not my mothertongue :alien:

I recently upgraded to a Pentium i5 dual core which required a new mobo with more RAM--partly to be able to play ME2 and also because I am sure that more and more games will require or at least recommend dual core processors. While I was at it, I switched to Windows 7 Professional (64 bit)--have had nothing but smooth sailing with it.....

I've been searching this forum since I got my game, and have found no definitive answers to the load screen hang. Yes, I saw the link to the megaupload archive, which, by the way. NO LONGER EXISTS!

Am I just screwed here?

Single Core. AMD Athlon 64 4000 (Performance rates better than most dual cores on market right now)

NVidia GeForce 8600GTS (still have not found a better video card)

4 gigs RAM

Creative X-FI

Did you download the 1.01 patch?

If you haven't (yet) downloaded the patch HERE are the blank loading screensImage IPB

One last thing

Now, replace THESE FOLLOWING FILES ONLY, NOT ALL OF THEM, OR YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO GET PAST A SPECIFIC POINT IN THE GAME!
Go to your Movies folder in your Mass Effect 2 directory, and overwrite the following .bik files:

I have some tips for this:

1- Upgrade graphics card to 5000 or higher (research online for best possible graphics card under £100)

2- If it does crash immediately switch of PC for an hour, maybe check fans for dust/overheating. A good clean can solve a lot of problems.

3- Try running in Administrator or XP mode for Vista users

4- You can get duocore processors really cheap on Ebay for £200 or go look on ebuyer

5- Ensure all drivers are upto date especially sound systems as this can cause problems.

The above exaggeration may be safely ignored.  Since all the commenter had was a mere laptop with nothing better than Intel for video, that brag was meaningless.

Hello everyone!

I've just bough ME2 and I have some problems that I think are related to the 1st point of the thread.

I've played ME1 without problems, but it used to freeze during a conversation, a video, a loading screen or even during normal play, so I had to reset the computer.

Yesterday, I downloaded the ME2 demo, and it worked really fine: no lag, no freeze, not even slow motion.

Today, I bough and installed ME2. It installed nicely without any trouble, and the menu worked fine too. So, I clicked the "Import ME1 game", selected the right saved file and then it jumped to the loading screen. And there, it freezed. The music was still playing, but the loading animation only moved for the first photograms.

I had to reset the computer. This has happened to me for about four times, and in those times I reduced the graphics, reduced the antivirus CPU usage and even tried to start a completely new game (no ME1 game loading). But it still crashed the same way.

Please, I need help, as the other users that post here. My computer is:

Processor: AMD Athlon™ 64 Processor 3200+

Clock speed: 2038 MHz

Phisic memory: 1.99 GB

Graphics card: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

VRAM: 1.00 GB

Driver version: 181.20

Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Professional

DirectX version: DirectX 9.0c (Mar2009) or later

My computer runs games like Dawn of War 2 or Dead Space properly, and it ran the ME2 demo, so I don't understand why the full game does that.

Thank you very much.

Unsticking this thread for now in an effort to declutter the front page. Should be referenced in the stickied PC Tech FAQ in case the thread was more helpful than I thought.
