I found a solution for people with the freezing problem at the selection of new game, unfortunatly this only works for duo or quad core users.
1) Go to "Start"
2) Type in "run"
3) Type in "msconfig"
4) Go to the "Boot" tab
5) Select "Advanced Options"
6) At this point the startup number of processors should show "1" and should be unable to be changed.
7) Uncheck "Number of Processors"
8) Check "Detect HAL"
9) Click "Ok", then click "Apply"
10) Reboot your PC.
If all goes according to plan, when you reload, you should be able to do this:
11) Go to "Start"
12) Type in "run"
13) Type in "msconfig"
14) Go to the "Boot" tab
15) Select "Advanced Options"
16)
You should again see the start up number of processors. However, this
time when you click the drag down menu you should be able to select the
proper number of cores (4 in my case).
17) Click "Ok", then click "Apply".
credit goes to Bluewolf35948. This worked for me hope it works for you guys, im able to get in and have been playing fine so far. Sorry i couldnt help those with single core problems. Much love, bluewolf said dont forget him when you name your first-born's.
This will solve my problem. Somehow, I'm only running off of one core. However, there is no detect hal option for XP. Is there any way to do this on XP? Sorry, but google is surpisingly unhelpful.

The solution to your problem can be found in the Original Thread. I don't know where it is in there, almost 60 pages of information, but they do explain how to fix it on XP.MrOptimism457 wrote...

Edit: Got past the IFF thing, I think the problem was with skipping the dialog thing, Cheers Spiro!!

Im at work so I cant tinker with coalesced.ini at the moment, but look what I found at page 3 of this magnificent forum:
http://social.biowar...06/index/834703
Its a editor for coalesced.ini! There even is a manual how to configure that .ini file manually without worrying about character sizes. So try this method when tinkering with coalesced.ini.

I would like to tell everyone here my case and maybe there is a soloution,
I have a problem like everyone here, Stuck on the begining of the loading screen,
if i watch the intro movie i can get past the loading screen but the movie after and
the gameplay it self is very laggy and unplayble.
I am using Windows XP with all the system requirments met,
and my processor is a multi-core :
Intel® Core2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33GHz
Intel® Core2 Duo CPU E6550 @ 2.33GHz
I am not too confident to download from any untrusted site.
And since i have XP and a dual-core, perhaps there is a soloution for me.
Thanks allot for any help.

I used the -nomoviestartup fix and the game works perfectly. Only missed a little story at the intro so far.
I could do that too, but then I really feel that I'm missing so much of this fantastic game. I try to stay away from ME2 until there is a solution or I got the money to do a upgrade

what would you tell me if i say; i have a dualcore but stuttering during the video at the beginning with miranda, sometimes the lips arent moving... and during the game there is also stuttering...
Same here. I have a dual core, my system recognizes both, the game's Configuration tool recognizes both, Mass Effect 1 runs flawlessly (don't know if this last part's related), yet the game stutters once every 4-5 minutes, even after applying the green screen fix...

It's not that bad. You just miss some videos but you still have the dialogs and choices. I did this and I never had a big problem understanding the story.

Guess I will have it give it a go then.
Edit: OMG. After using the -nomoviestartup workaround, the game works like a charm! everything goes smooth and plays nice! Man...only the movies are out. Well, I going through it a second time anyway so I might as well wait for a patch or do a upgrade in the time being. Thanks guys for letting me try this.

I might sound stupid but I dont know if I have a Single-Core or a Multi-Core.
How do i check it?
If you go to my computer and then right click and go down to properties you can look at general and it will tell you how many cores you have

I know there's almost no chance of your coming back to this thread now that you're fixed, but... skipping what dialog thing? I didn't skip any dialog
