Okay, I've been playing my game on a single core computer using the no video bypass. I now have a dual core computer and want to transfer my game files but couldn't locate them. Could someone please tell me what folder my game files are in so that I can continue my game using a dual core and getting to see the videos! Thanks!

ok if you go to games then mass effect and right click it there should be a configure option click on that and there well be a list of tabs on the side one of them should say saves.

Okay, I got through it. (The install-the-IFF scene, that is).

Previously, I was overwriting ALL of the movie files beginning with "load" with the green screen blk. That didn't work. Then restoring *all* the movie files didn't work either. But overwriting *just* the "load" movies on this list:

http://social.biowar...72168/47#837079

...that finally worked. Didn't even have to do the purposeful viewing of the intro movie to get lag during the initial load. Everything worked fine (barring the godawful lag that you have to bear through to get through the whole scene, of course). I would imagine (though can't personally verify yet) that if you just overwrite those, and only those, load files right from the beginning of the game, then you won't have to do any file swapping around when you go through IFF, and you'll get to see more movies than you do if you overwrite all of them.  That's how I'm going to work things until a final fix comes out:  a shortcut with -nomoviestartup that I'll use most of the time, and another shortcut without it, but with only those load*.blk files replaced with green screens, rather than all of them.

OK, i was just wondering if anyone who can actually run mass effect 2 on their computer, please post your specs, because i was thinking about upgrading! Also i recommend creating a backup folder for anyone who is modifying the ini folder, for when bioware brings out an official patch. I think we are getting closer to the problem with mass effect 2 and it probably has something to do with the ini folder like schizo-v said!

Where did I get the green-screen blk, you mean? There's a link to a megaupload file that's been posted a million times elsewhere, look through the thread I linked to and you should find it fairly quickly, I think it got posted relatively early in the thread.

That megaupload link gives you a whole bunch of green screen files (all identical) meant to overwrite more movie files than it needs to. So download that, then get rid of the files that aren't on the list at the link I gave in my post, then just copy those files into the movies directory.  Do back the movies you're going to overwrite, though, for that joyous day when this whole thing gets fixed.

Or, if you meant you couldn't find the movie files on your pc to overwrite, on my XP system it's in the directory Program Files/Mass Effect 2/Biogame/Movies.

For AMD users using winxpsp3, download dual-core optimizer, this can optimize the game's performance without using this affinity fix. I know it works because I don't suffer horrible loading times, stuttering, and crashes. Be sure to use the amd driver also for winxpsp3.

Do you have a single core or core duo?

Edit: OMG. After using the -nomoviestartup workaround, the game works like a charm! everything goes smooth and plays nice! Man...only the movies are out. Well, I going through it a second time anyway so I might as well wait for a patch or do a upgrade in the time being. Thanks guys for letting me try this.

I just downloaded RADTools to play BNK files.  After I played through the game I played every BNK in the movies folder.  The only thing you miss with -nomovies that's actually worth seeing is in the very beginning and at the very end.  Everything else is not that important.  Most of it is loading screens, and a lot of it is just landing at and leaving the hubs.

Just to make it as clear as possible for everyone, THIS IS NOT A SINGLE CORE ONLY ISSUE. I have dual core, which is recognized by both my system and the game's Configuration Tool, and the stuttering still occurs.

Gah! I cannot progress beyond the shuttle bit! I have the IFF, but now I just get a black screen when I decide to progress! I seriously hope that a solid fix is imminent!

Patiently awaiting the patch.I'm stuck at the IFF with no workarounds working, and i mean it, i've tried it all.Pressing the galaxy map , loading screen shows up and then black screen freeze.

By pressing the galaxy map and talking to joker/edi you trigger a loading and a cutscene or a loading and a movie sequence? If a movie then it would be great to find out which File in particular, but then again i don't really mind waiting for the patch.

Do like this, use your normal .bink movies instead of the ones for the fix, then load the game and let the intro start, you can now press a key to start and load your game.

The game should load fine beyond that, then when you have the chance save and apply the fix again because if you die or reload the game will hang again on the loading screen.

Just finished the game with the pc on my sig and it works.

For those of you with multi-core processors that are still getting the stutter/lag, AND both your OS and the games config recognizes your cores, this has been reported to help some people:
1- Start the game (may have to be in the game as opposed to the menus)
2- alt-tab, or ctrl-alt-del and bring up your task manager
3- click the processes tab
4- right click the masseffect2.exe process, choose set affinity
    -- uncheck all but CPU0
    -- click OK
5- alt-tab, or click the mass effect 2 box to reenter the game
6- alt-tab back to task manager, open the masseffect2.exe affinity, recheck CPU1-CPUX, OK
I'm not so sure about having to reenter the game or not, did this once on my brothers computer, and it cleared up his lag.
I did not develop this method, only found it in the forums here and on gamefaqs, while looking to fix the game to play on my single core.  I'm just reporting it as it may help.
Another option as reported by Gnaeus.Silvanus is above on this page.

I see the loading screen graphic where the elevator drops down

I do not see this at all. Get a black screen immediately after the conversation with Joker

What if I use normal bink movies without any lags until IFF mission? Told you, this problem is actual for dual-core users.

sigh dont want to be a downer but its been 2 weeks since the problems have been announced.. I know it takes a while, but the first patch that has no real fixes for our problem isnt even out yet.. I'm pretty sure we'll have to wait more than a month for the 2nd patch.. Bummer..

I´m on just one core and i too have that issue but if i let the intro start and then click to play and load my game it works, go figure?? its about time for Bioware to come up with a patch. :pinched:
