And, yes, I have a single core unlike several of the posters on this thread. And if one more person tells me to use the "-nomoviestartup" fix I will drive to their house and kick their desktop into the street.
I will be waiting for Bioware to fix this at some late date...I hope.
Mass Effect 2 - shelved.

I read the entire 60 page original thread AND all of this one so before someone gets all uppity and labels me as lazy - nothing, and I mean NOTHING, has worked for me. I cannot create a character so I can't even get to any opening movie. I can't judge if my game play is slow, jerky, or stuttering because there is no game play. I don't know if it freezes after a cinematic or not. All because I am unable to even START a game. This sounds like the problem a few people here are having: try and create a new game and get a still frame of a yellow mass relay and the eternal words "Loading" in the lower right corner.

Did you replace the loading screens with the green ones (after making backup of the original ones of course) ?

This. I have the EXACT same problem and the -nomoviestartup does NOT work on me either. So like you, Mass Effect 2 is shelved for now (disappointed...)....

Have you tried changing the resolution? its an awful way to play the game, but I was having the same problem. I went into the me2 config files and reduced the resolution way down (640x480). Managed to get past the first loading screen just fine - provided you wait for at the 'click any button' screen for the cutscene.

sorry for the double post, but i wanted to comment on this... if at least for the sake of a few laughs.
I read the above post and thought to myself "YES! thank god I didnt get rid of the original load biks!'. long story short, poor organization skills and crappy memory resulted in 2 backups of my green screen biks... and no trace of the actual load movies. im an idiot, re-installing, etc.

Any news Bioware? Can this be patched, are you guys any closer to a solution than you were a week back? Just an update here would be great...

an update is mandatory imho. im not going to shell out money for a dual core cpu because of one game. i play many games and they all work like butter with absolutely no problems, and i mean butter as in everything turned up to the max. why is ME2 different? why would they make a game that supports only dual cores or multiple cpu's when not everyone has one? i hate to say this but single core cpu's will be around awhile longer than most expect and every game made should support single core cpu's no matter what, period.

I doubt will hear anything from em for at least a month. SO if you're still hoping you better stop.

I was just wondering if mass effect 1 does the same thing with the gameplay 3 second freeze after the movie? Never played it.

The fix will address the largest issues found here, with the caveat that there still might be some unaddressable remaining issues.
The caveats are as follows:
- Single core users may experience short periods of black screen that may last up a few seconds between level loads, cinematic transitions or movies.
- In rare cases, some single core users may notice dialog lines in certain conversations may be delayed up to a few seconds.
Once again, we are trying to help you all as much as possible and are trying to get you up and running with the game. This is still, however, an issue that only exists with machines below min spec (whether the OS only detects a single core, or there is actually only one single hardware core).
ETA will be forthcoming as soon as we have our schedule set.

Ok what about the freeze when someone clicks on import character/create new character and were stuck on the first load screen (with the mass relay) and it won't do anything? I know a lot of people had this problem. Please tell me you're working on this too.

Thanks a ton for the update!
When you're sitting there eyeing a mouth-watering game & all you can do about it is twiddle your thumbs, the wait can be painful. Its great to get an update every now & then to move the time along.
Glad to hear you guys are working on something for us, even if it aint "the perfect fix", so long as we get to experience the game as close to as its meant to be experienced, I'm happy.
Thanks Bioware, your efforts are much appreciated
