(I did see a pic of a "Samuel L. Shepherd", which I need to make at some point...)

Ya, he's a lame addition. I'm gonna figure out a way to kill him before Mass Effect 3 comes out. They should have replaced him with a Volus. Now THAT would have been cool.
Volus cant fight though. Plus that wheezing sound they make gets annoying after a while.

But then I didn't like Kaiden at all. They're both fairly generic, but Kaiden - and maybe it's partly his voice actor - comes across as pompous and patronizing as a "paragon" guy, to me anyway. Something about him really rubs me the wrong way.
He takes himself a bit too seriously for one thing, and he has little to no sense of humor.

My wife and I were thoroughly convinced he was watching Extranet porn on that monitor he was bent over continually. He always seemed to be wiping sweat off his brow whenever you caught him at it.

I just hate the awkward bro hug when you've finished his character arc. "We're gonna spill some drinks!" Shepard does his best Vanilla Ice.
If you have a white shepard that is...
For me it was more like.. "BROTHAS IN SPACE!" lol...

It feels strange saying this about ANYBODY...but Kaidan is many orders of magnitude cooler than Jacob.
Oh yes, I totally agree. Jacob is a good buddy, but Kaidan is beyond words. I love him

If I play again with a male Shepard, I might find I really like the guy.

I can't honestly judge the two of them fairly. I liked Kaidan, I liked Jacob in Galaxy, and I freaked out because as FemShep, everything you say to Jacob sounds like a come-on. I wound up avoiding him as much as possible because of it.

Have to agree with this, sometimes ALL the dialogue options are just different degrees of hitting on him, from the subtle paragon to the two by four to the face renegade options. Avoided talking to him as a result.
Didn't have as good a backstory as Kaiden but made up for it by having one of the best loyalty missions (IMO) of the lot. That renegade ending and the whole lord of the flies in space thing was really interesting and put a bit of a twist on the old "trapped on a tropical island" cliche.

Yeah, his loyalty mission was great. It also felt like it could have just been an N7 mission really. The fact that it was his dad was pretty much inconsequential.

Marveling at the ridiculousness of this comment. A disparate team of aliens from all over the galaxy is more diverse because a black dude joins it...ComTrav wrote...
At least Jacob adds some diversity to the ME team.
