Wonder if he's shaggable. Makes sense if he's Maric's bastard son. The Therin boys seem to be chick magnets, spreading the love around.

i highly doubt he is maric and fiona's son. i'm a firm believer in the fact that it's alistair.

hmm, I'm not sure on the name 'Anders'...It's too close to Anderfels, and the term Anders used to describe people from Anderfels.

O HAI. That VA for Anders sure does sound like Steve Valentine. Huh. Here's what I speculate, with very little basis at all:

Anders is the actual son of Fiona and Maric, and Alistair is really the son of a maid and Maric. Maric had one of those pairs of pants with the fly that always accidentally keeps coming down, and then ladies accidentally fall on his lap. He couldn't help it. It was a clothing and gravity malfunction.

I further speculate that at least one person is starting to put together some Alistair/Anders slashfic right about...NOW.

I'm not judging. I'm just saying.

I wouldn't like Anders to be Maric's son, I think Maric already has too many children of questionable origins, Morrigan and Alistair are good enough in my opinion, adding one more would turn this sort of twist into an even greater cliche, I rather think that Anders is just some random apostate then the son of a king or a demon or a god and so on.
Ps. he does really sound like Steve Valentine

He's the illegitimate son of Richard Dean Anderson.

He's got to be romanceable: He's got the bod, got the burn...

Morrigan? That's wild speculation and would mean that Alistair committed incest with his sister in may playthroughs. The game may be be dark, but I don't think it's that dark. Eww....

Oh, I'd judge. No problem judging here. ;)

But if he is, that drops my opinion of Maric quite a bit. I just can't see him sleeping around twice. I see it as a possibility, but I'll only consider it the slightest of possibilities for now.

Actually if done once, and he liked it..and didn't get "found out'...he'd do it again.   Pretty sure thats how it works lol.

Morrigan is Flemeth's child...who the father was, well it may be one of those unfortunate Chasind guys Flemeth enticed to her hut.  hehe

I dunno, Maric certainly wasn't perfect. And he was in an essentially loveless marriage for the sake of duty, knowing full well that his wife actually loved Loghain instead of him. Being king of a newly rebuilt nation would be stressful, too. I could see him having a few moments of weakness and succumbing to the temptation of other women on occasion. Not that I'm endorsing that behavior as perfectly okay, just that I could see it as a possibility for Maric, given his situation.

It wouldn't be the first time a King has had affairs.......

I wonder how much some of this wordplay in DA is intentional. People keep noting that the name "Alistair" is a version of Alexander, which means "defender of man." Alex-ander. Anders.

It really does seem like Maric had passionate ways...but I am not above saying that if he was a romanceable character in the game that I might well, fall for that charisma.  You know, in the name of experiencing a part of Fereldian (Fereldanian...Fereldonian?) culture and history.

I am not sure *who* this Anders really is ( though the look just SCREAMS " Oh! Pick me as a child of Maric!!!"), but as a Duncan/Cailan/Alistair hybrid, you just have to know that the women out there would be all for that. *grins*  And you know, having physical contact with said apostate having the interesting side effect of sparks or flame...well, enchantment!  :wizard:

Truth be told, I really wanted a male mage.  :)  Happy happy.

It comes from the fact that Maric and Loghain found themselves guests of Flemeth for awhile early in The Stolen Throne.  Maric and Flemeth were along for awhile, which has some believing that they...ah...made Morrigan at that point.  I'm not sure that I believe that at all, and that's pretty much the only evidence for the theory.

She also looks nothing like Maric. And considering how dominant that man's genes seem to be in his children, I have a hard time believing something like Morrigan could emerge...

OR, I'm just clinging to the hope that not every character in DA is somehow Maric's illegitimate child. :pinched:

Ahaha, cling hard!  I'm right there with you!

I maintain my firm belief that Maric was not the cheating kind until absolutely proven otherwise!

If Maric slept with every woman he was ever alone with, that's a lot of bastards. I think more evidence is required. ;)
Also, I'm doubting that the developers would make incest a plot point.

Why do people keep saying Maric "slept around" on his wife? Wasn't Rowan dead by the time Fiona came around? He was a widower.

Well, Alistair wasn't found under a cabbage leaf. ;) I don't get the impression that there's a huge age difference between Alistair and cailen, so....

I think most people who have read the books would agree with you.  I am firmly in the camp of Maric being a faithful man to Rowan while she was alive.  The game paints a different image of him though.

Actually, even though i was sure it was Alistairs voice actor, I just did a new playthrough and it actually sounds a LOT like the voice actor who did Cailan. I don't think i will listen again to change my mind, but yes, I think its Cailan's voice. :)   I compared here:    and here  just for reference :D

So if that is the case, it may be Maric/Fiona child... or it just may be an in-joke that the voice actor did Cailan and so they made him look similar.

Of course, i could be full of nonsense as well. lol I will return to my little dark corner of the internet now.... :)

Anders - Scandinavian form of Andrew. Greek 'manly'.

I'm torn.  On one hand, we know Cailan and Alistair look alike on purpose (though I still don't really see it that much).  So is the fact that Anders looks and sounds like them significant, or is it just a devious plan by the devs to drive us all crazy wondering about it until March 16, when we will still receive no definite proof one way or the other so that they can laugh at us as we ponder and scratch our heads and tear our hair out wanting to know?!  :o
