Terrible idea. New players should have to assume the least amount of attachments as reasonably possible. Saving x person/group/whatever or romancing x person is not significant to the new player because they never chose to do it and experience it.

No, never. Tali is a niche romance, the average mainstream gamer would never want her as the default one, they'd want Miranda/Liara. Bioware has to appeal to the masses (see what I did there?).

You nerds and your collective hard on for Tali.

Lol, I, like you, don't really understand the intense love Tali recieves. She seems like more of a little sister-style of character than a romance.

Actually wouldn't 'canon' Shepard be dead after the suicide mission and you would start as some other half-ass Shepard wannabe

Well, was there a canon romance in ME2? I mean logically if you are asking for one to be apparent in ME3, wouldn't it have already been made in ME2? I have no clue because I imported. So by story standards, wouldn't the canon LI (IF there is one) be Liara/Ash/Kaiden.

I personally do not think there should be a canon romance. Its not fair to force anyone to like someone. Breaking up with them in the beginning does not solve this issue. Why even have the romance made so the player breaks up with them, its ridiculous.

People get to use the "Previously in Mass Effect" comic to make important decisions if playing "default" Shepard in ME3. I'd assume this involves LI's.

Check the Mass Effect 3 Confirmed Features thread for more info.
This thread is kinda pointless. Default Shepard for me is single.

Sorry for going off-topic and good night everyone.

bad idea, not everyone would enjoy romancing a fetish alien.

it seems that Liara is the canon LI, if you ask me.

My Ash romance seems to indicate that there is no "canon" romance. And I don't think there should be one. There has been some blatant favoritism toward Liara by Bioware, but I don't mind that because they've never made her a mandatory romance. I mean as much as I love both Liara and Tali, my Shepard has no interest in head dealies or someone who wears a bucket all the time. :)

I think all the romances deserve the same amount of screen time, content and attention from Bioware - and similarly satisfying conclusions.

Boom.  Everybody's happy.

There's no such a thing as "canon" in ME, devs said so many times...
If I had to decide though, I'd say the closest thing to an actual "canon LI" would probably be Liara, like many have already said...

BTW, What's with the necro? :/

some people don't want to have any romances, period. there's a reason why ME2 import didn't have a romance flag. besides, rumor has it - there's going to be an intro comic that will allow you to chose decisions, including whether you had a romantic relationship before ME3 and if yes, then with whom.

Damn, a lot of necro threads lately.

As for the topic, as much as I like Tali, it wouldn't be fair to those who dislike her to make her a canon romance. Which also goes against the games' availability when it comes to romances. They're optional, not canon.

Cannon romance should be that Shep was to busy saving the galaxy to get it on. :X

Tali for in-game canon? Not fair to the other 40% of ME players (Image IPB). Tali as canon for official ME3 trailers? Hell yes! I feel like I'm owed something after watching my poor default Shepard getting lathered in Miranda at some point during every ME2 trailer.

No offence to Miranda lovers. I don't hate on characters or their fans.

Cannon? As in shooting her out of this?

Sure, why not? Have Garrus calibrate her up in the gunnery station and when the Harbinger shows up we'll fire her away.

Anywho it was the best of the romances i've seen thus far and she's been with Shep since Day one why not Put her as Sheps number 1 for deafault ME 3 character?

Honestly, I was never a Tali-mancer at all. I never really cared one way or the other about her really. But in my latest playthrough I decided to romance Tali, and I must say it seemed to be the most natural, realistic romance for me. How it gradually developed. She was an old friend, so it wasn't quite so spur of the moment, and from Kelly's comment about how she likes you and Shep says he "always thought there was some chemistry there" to the end of Tali's loyalty mission when she says, "I got you" (and how you got to hug her during the mission) it all seems like the romance is slowly unfolding. Unlike most of the others that are just passion in the heat of battle. I also love in LotSB how Liara says something about how Tali's always had a crush on you and Shepard says, " You could've mentioned that before....." haha. Tali may not be my favorite character, but I have a new respect for how her romance was written and look forward to playing through ME3 with my imported Tali-mance file. =]

The problem with this statement is that its completely subjective.  There are plenty of people who don't think this and never will.  That's why there's choice.  I personally find Ashley's romance to be the most natural and interesting, but that's my subjective opinion.  I wouldn't want them to force Ashley onto those who might not like her.  Because there are people that don't like her, just like there are people that don't like Tali.

Oh, absolutely. That's just my perspective. (and Thane is still my personal favorite LI) I wouldn't want ANY romance to be deemed "canon" for the same reason as you, we should get to choose.

No. Tali sucks donkey balls. Too immature?

Seriously (this goes for Garrus too, sorry ladies and some guys) Tali romance is a joke. She wasn't supposed to be one. I don't care if the mancers say she was supposed to be in ME1. In every subsequent game of the year/platinum hits version of Mass Effect she still wasn't a romance option. The only... and I reiterate ONLY xenophillic romance that makes sense for Shepard of either gender is Liara. Tali and Garrus romance is a retcon. And if the writers aren't careful the s/s could end up badly too. They should have made Shepard of both genders pan-sexual in the first Mass Effect so we wouldn't run into these problems now. So if Mass Effect 3 sucks it's because of you. Rabid fans who demand that the writers kowtow to their every whimsical command and pixel fetish.

TL;DR
If Mass Effect 3 sucks it's because of the romances.

That's just your opinion.
