I won't explain it to you, not right now.
Read the thread. I may come back here after I've completed the game and write in detail, but at this point all I want to say to you is while you may have a little ground to stand on with your argument that I haven't provided any detail (I disagree), you completely erode your own argument by asserting that ME2 is easily the far less buggy, far more polished game when you back up that statement with... nothing at all.

A review?
A thousand reviews?
Tell me your opinion because I'd trust that more than a reviewer.

As far as bugs, that isn't really my concern but people have brought them up here and it is relevant. I can't speak on bugs because I have only experience two and while they've caused me to reset the game they aren't bothersome to me. Other people have brought up bugs as evidence of a rushed game and I suggest you reply them.

As far as polish, if you are stating that Mass Effect 2 has better graphics then we agree, but so what?
Mass Effect was not fun because of its graphics or lack of. I want awesome graphics too, but I am primarily concerned with graphics in a FPS. At this day and age all 3rd person shooters ought to have decent graphics. As a matter of fact, ME2 graphics are nothing to write home about, and if that is what you refer to as polish then we are not concerned with the same issues.

You haven't even finished the game but you're sitting here posting all day about how the game is rushed?

Wow.

Moving on, my opinion is what I already said. I've played "ME2" for 60+ hours, beat it 2-3 times, and I don't see how anybody in their right mind could say the two are comparable when it comes to polish. In hindsight I'd say "ME1" was rushed, if I had to pick one.

I didn't say anything about graphics. I'm talking about how well the game is coded. Stuff like FPS, bugs, texture pop in, things of that nature. Things that can be looked at factually....not "oh, I think they cut out content to meet a release date".

You're saying you think the game was rushed but not offering any proof of it. Offer proof. I'm saying it doesn't seem rushed, and offering my own assessment of 60+ hours and multiple play throughs as proof. You don't even have one play through to speak on. Stop posting in this thread, complete the game, and come back with an educated opinion.

ME1 on pc play just fine... no fps drops, no bugs, almost no pop in.... Maybe it was rushed for the 360

Agreed. I have ME from steam and absolutely no problems.

Thats because it was released 6 months later and ported to the PC so they saw all the issue in the 360 version and fixed them. BTW Bioware didn't do the port another company did it FYI.

cool.

Exactly. I have "ME1" on PC too and the difference between the PC and 360 version is night and day. The superior  PC version released much later would further strengthen the argument that the first game was rushed.

Not saying it was, but if we're throwing the word around let's apply it where it makes sense.

fair enough.
doesn't change my argument, but I see your point here.

Most of the problems you seem to be having with the game have nothing to do with being rushed but with design choices.

Does the story seem incomplete? No it did not. Whether or not you enjoyed the story is not evidence of whether or not it's rushed.

Was it buggy? A little, but then again, most of Bioware games are..

The inventory system gutted? They've mentioned they were gonna change the inventory system radically near the start!

and the whole rinse and repeat thing? You don't even have to do it!

If you don't do the side missions then the game is quite short.
You aren't incorrect, but what you are describing as a way to play ME2 sounds like a description of a poor game.

A better game was ME, where things felt more integrated into your main quest.
Your description of the inventory, gutted, sounds accurate. Refining the inventory would have made a better game.

I haven't finished the story so I can't comment on whether it is incomplete, but the story is enjoyable to me so far.

Then do the side missions!  This game isn't a plot centric game (where the first one was), but a character centric one, where characters play a major role.  It's a different type of story telling, and one that's done partly because its the middle story and it's trying to set it up for the major finale.

And things felt integrated into the main quest?  Because going out to a random lonely outpost on some bland as hell planet to kill some gang bosses for Helena Blake was very integral to the main plot?

The advantage of ME 2's plot is that it's character centric, so your side missions have a lot to do with your characters...in ME1''s...you can do Garrus' quest, or not...you don't even have to do Wrex's quest to save him, you don't learn much more about the characters either way, where as in this game, you'll actually learn more about your characters (for the most part).

As for the inventory system...sure, it's not perfect, and I would have rather them refine the inventory system rather than getting rid of it altogether, but it's a major step above ME1's inventory system, and it's a "flaw" that I don't care much about!

It's just my opinion, but I have found no reason to complain about ME2. In all my years of gaming I have found it to be one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played. The chance to take a character that I created and carry them over into an entire trilogy is an experience that has made this series unforgetable. Each playthrough literaly belongs to the individual gamer, no franchise has accompished this to the level ME has and I for one am waiting for the third installment with even more enthusiasum then I had for ME2. Keep up all the great work Bioware!

I personally think Mass effect 2 is an awesome game, the only problem I have so far is the planet scanning.

No reason at all?  I found plenty of issues playing through the game.  Guess it all depends on how you hoped the game would turn out.  : /

ME2 isnt a bad game, but is definitely rushed. Bugs (terrain detection, graphical glitches, ...) ME2 got the "Deus Ex" threatment(simplified, gutted inventory, plain dialogs, small linear levels, ...) The game does not feel complete. Its short. Nothing new. Nothing to explore. But the worst is final mission. It (after 30 hours of gathering the team and completing their quests, upgrading equipment, scaning planets for resources you didnt use) felt very, very, very short and anticlimatic. I only hope that we will get the rest of the game through DLCs or some user made mods.     Best part was Collector invasion on Normandy. The HORROR "running" around as Joker while the crew got collected. Image IPBImage IPBImage IPB

ME2 is a great game - for one playthrough. It's a decent game for the second playthrough. But after that? Maybe I was "over-hyped" for this game, but then again, it was very enjoyable, so I don't regret anything at all, it's just... somehow it lacks any replayability for me, and I went back to Dragon Age...

Yey, more of these posts they are such a joy to reply to.

ME1 was not as good as you people keep ragging on and on about, the only reason most of the people here use ME1 as some kind of golden standard is because there are very little games to compare it to. Also everyone who protects the Sidequest Hill Planets from ME1 needs to replay them without bashing their skull against the wall. There are three bases repeated a couple dozen times and after the first 4 it gets boring.

I just finished my Adept fem Shep on ME1, and I can confirm, ME1 feels much more rounded than ME2...
I really enjoy the first one, whereas in the second I feel confined and claustrophobic... mission on ME2 are moving from point A to point B trought 4 or 5 corridors with mid height boulders...

And about the planets, they are not that bad, people tend to exagerate, there are really bad ones, as there are good ones, at least you have the chance to PLAY THEM, instead of moving the cursor over a stupid sphere

exactly.
The developers simply pulled the plug on anything that was unfinished, rather than finish it.
This is why ME2 feels, undone.
ME2 isn't a great game. It is OK.

If ME never happened ME2 would get a 7.5 in most reviews.

I think it's a testament to how good ME2 is (and to a degree, how good ME1 was) when a lot of the criticism thrown at ME2 would be nitpicks for any other game.

That's not to say ME2 is perfect. I really wish they refined the inventory system rather than gutting it out completely. I enjoyed that it's more character driven this time around but I miss the squad chatter from the first ME.

I really wish people would stop with their bull****.

ME2 had changes that should have come damned earlier in the RPG scene. Gotta respect Bioware for doing that step, knowing fully well they were going to get a lot of **** for it.

That said, if you don't like the changes, then fine. But seriously cut the crap, saying that the game was unfinished. It has so few bugs and runs smoothly. The story line is epic and immersive. The characters ( well some of them ) are deep, and the combat is well done, even if you may not like it.

I just refinished ME1, and I'm on my second playthrough of ME2 now. Both are great games, but there's no question that ME1 is far buggier than ME2. The only 2 bugs I've found in ME2 are 1) you occassionally wind up stuck in the air for no reason, and 2) sometimes you can't shoot around corners unless you're very close to the edge (a problem in ME1 sometimes too).

As for the story, although ME1 has a fantastic core story (as the start of all good trilogies do), the side quests were awful. Worse, they didn't integrate into the core story at all. "Shepard, Admiral Hackett here. We know you're trying to save the entire galaxy, but could you spare a few minutes to fight a few malfunctioning robots? We don't have any other soldiers in the entire Alliance..."

The side missions for each character in ME2, by comparison, are very well done. They also teach you a lot about the team you're taking on this suicide mission. By the time you get there, you really care about whether or not they survive! Tali and Samara's quests were particularly interesting I thought. The only one I thought was weak was Grunt's.

Ultimiately, all of this is just my opinion. We each have to make up our own minds about this game. Personally I loved it.

I actually thought the game felt very polished and not the least bit rushed. Most of the flaws I've read about, are not so much flaws as they are disagreements about the game's direction. E.g People complaining about less armour and weapons was a deliberate attempt by BioWare to curb complaints about a poor inventory system. It worked.

I haven't read all of the posts in this forum, or even this thread, but what I have read hasn't seemed to indicate any rushed release.

Yeah, this thread doesn't make sense. ME1 is way buggy, and pretty much just a bad game minus the story. Combat was horrific. ME2 is a BLAST, done well. It has some bugs, but they're not omni-present, and they're easily avoided.

Lol... "ME1 is way buggy, and pretty much just a bad game minus the story. Combat was horrific. ME2 is a BLAST, done well."

I'm not surprised you feel that way considering that ME2 is pretty much ME minus everything but the combat and a story.

I don't believe so. DLC is being used to keep people coming back to the game, and as something to help combat piracy and get them a slice of the used game sales (with Cerberus card). DLC is something to keep people interested, ever since way back with Total Annihilation. It's about keeping the game in the news, so other people will buy the game after prime time sales is passed.
