Let's see...I have Miranda, Jacob, Zaeed, Grunt, Jack, Garrus, the Justicar and soon Thane & Tali. It seems many of them have similar combat abilities. In ME1 it was a little easier to decide, if you were going up against humanoids a biotic and a damage dealer was good. If you were up against synthetics a tech specialist and damage dealer. More or less. In ME2 I'm having a hard time deciding, they're all so tempting. I really dig Zaeed and Jack, I also like Miranda and Garrus. Now I'm thinking the Justicar could be my best biotic and then there's Thane...Well I guess I'll find out soon.

Anyone else having trouble picking squadmates?

Looks like Samara's Throw vs SuZe/Jack's Shockwave. Haven't unlocked their special abilities yet. Rifle vs shotgun.

on my first run through, I chose squads out of personal preference, not abilities. Most of the time it was Garrus and Tali. Sometimes I'd insert Miranda and Jack.

On my 2nd runthrough, I go for members which can damage protection buffs - most notably Zaeed, Miranda, and Samara.

I would've wanted to use Jack more, but aside from her ammo buff, she can't do damage to protection buffs.

Garrus is fine, but I used him on my first run.

Tali and Legion - mainly good for Synthetics (well aside from Tali's Drain).

If I go for a 3rd run, I'm going to use Thane, Grunt and Mordin more.

That kinda leaves Jacob left, but for some reason, I don't find his abilities that appealing.

depends on what class for me. I played sentinel and I found that having samara and her pull ability really helped. I had her use a group pull and I would then use throw or warp to finish the enemies off. Her reave was also good for taking our armor and I had warp/overload to take out barriers. Rounded the squad off with grunt for some fire support.

When I played as infiltrator I used grunt and zaeed or grunt and a biotic. I just needed them to distract enemies until I lined up my headshot. Really depends on what class you are.

1st play through I have Shep as an Infiltrator. As a balance I'm thinking a Biotic and perhaps a Tank or Engineer, depends though on enemy type. I really wish Biotics was like it was in ME1 where a Biotic could use Lift, Throw, Warp, Singularity...Jack and Samara are suppose to be Biotic bad-@sses (even Miranda to an extent) but really they're Biotic abilities pale to Liara's in ME1. Then there is the Biotic nerf...So really I guess I gotta take main weapons into account.

Too I like the banter some of them throw out like Zaeed who's all British tough guy.

You've left Mordin this late? Wow, big mistake, you're supposed to get him first to run the research labs. You've been going through the game with no upgrades?

Anyway, if you take a loyal Mordin, and use his special Power as your Bonus Power you'll have a much much easier time in any levels involving Collectors/Husks, such as the IFF mission, and the suicide mission.

I pick and choose differently based on the mission (2nd playthrough i roughly know what kinds of enemies will be facing). For most N7 missions you can guess what kind of enemy you will encounter by reading the planet scanning description.

Eg.

Geth: use disruptor ammo, AI hacking, overload (upgraded so they damage synthetics directly) - Zaeed, Tali, Garrus

Blood pack mercs: get Warp/Incinerate to stop Krogan/Vorcha regen and burn through armor - they rarely have shields so don't bother with Overload - Mordin, Miranda, Thane

Eclipse/Blue Suns mercs: get Overload (vs shields) and Warp (vs biotic barriers) - Miranda is perfect for this, also Garrus and Thane (esp if has Shredder ammo)

I don't bother with biotics much on higher difficulty levels because need to burn armor/shield down before they can be of use.

Cheers, thanks for the suggestion. I forgot to mention I have Mordin already.

Kinda odd to have so many "on your team" and you can only use two at a time.
