K this is driving me out of my mind and I havent' been able to make any leeway.

I purchased a physical copy of Mass Effect 1, installed it, played it absolutely fine for ages, got near the end of the game, and then suddenly, the game is completely unplayable.

Now the game stalls at loading the intro videos, it will play them, but they'll hang up for like 15-30 seconds before it will start playing the next.
then the fun part.
When it gets to the actual "press any key" screen the whole thing freezes with ever frame, and I mean EVERY frame is stalled out, frozen, for like 15-30 seconds.
I press a key and wait for minutes and it'll eventually stumble into attempting to start to bring up the game menu, though ever frame is doing the same thing, hanging up for 15-30 seconds before it tries to go to the next.

I have a Dell XPS studio
Intel i7 2.93 ghz processors
ATI RADEON HD 4850 graphics cards with up to date drivers.
12 gigs of DDR3 Ram
Vista 64 home premium.
and two 1680 X 1050 ultrasharp monitors

The game played fine for me for months, then suddenly one night it's unplayable and I am absolutely dumbfounded and frustrated to hell with it.
The only thing I can think of that happened that night, is that I was prompted ot update flash, immediately after updating flash I tried to go back and play the game, which, had been playing fine, and suddenly, I can't play.

The other odd thing I found is that if I attempt to run the game in windowed mode it runs absolutely fine, the problem being that it starts off with the focus not being on the game window, so when I click on it to bring the focus to the game, bam, it starts hanging up like it has been, if I go back to the desk top and it unfreezes and runs normally, I just cant' apparently touch the frakking game and play it, but I can watch it run normally while the focus is not on the game's window.

So yeah, some technical support is severly needed here because the game is completely unplayable for me and it's driving me nuts that I can't finish it.

Thanks *salute*

Try a system restore point to when you installed the flash update, are other games ok or is it jut ME?

does this happen in other games?

if so, my suggestion would be to wipe the hard drive, reinstall OS.

then if it's still doing that, it's likely a hardware issue.

in fact, that's exactly what happened to me.

oh and I just had a dell tech come by to replace like 70% of my hardware.

Vid card, motherboard, powersupply, cooling unit.

Did a 22hr spin disk hard drive scan.

Reason why I tried it again and it's still fubarred, and it's only ME that is fubarred and unplayable.

could try using Revo uninstaller to eliminate the existence of Flash on your computer.

or as suggested earlier, use system restore to go to a point prior to flash's update.

well I kinda have to have Flash on my computer :P

And system restore back wouldn't really be doable with as long as it's been since the problem originally happened.

the thing that's getting me is that I can see the game run normally when I have it in window, but only if the focus is not on that window, if I switch to the window that has the game, then suddenly it goes back to being all hung up.

so yeah, Bioware, Technical support stat.

might check the settings in flash to see if there's anything that would tamper with Mass Effect's performance.

or see if flash is running at all, in processes

and bioware tech support is recommended.
