I've saved up some points for level 4, and now I have to choose between the specializations, which one do you think is better?

Commando gives you more damage output for adrenaline rush, and Shock Trooper doesn't give more damage but extends its duration? Is that the major difference between the two?

Thanks

Depends on your play style. I really like Assault Rifle and Sniper Rifle, so I went Commando. The damage output doesn't just apply to Adrenaline Rush. You do more damage as a Commando, and you have more health as a Shock Trooper. You do a get a Paragon/Renegade bonus for Shock Trooper, though.

AR is useless. go with the other stats, health vs. damage.

AR is defenitely not useless, maybe the vindicator is because of its rediculously low ammo count, but the avenger and revnant are very good overall guns, they are good in just about every situation, save very long range sniping or super melee distance for shotgun.

I think he means that Adrenaline Rush is useless, not assault rifles. Thanks for the responses... increased damage versus more health, hmmm. I use cover and my shields rarely die, so commando makes more sense, shock trooper gets that paragon/renegade bonus though, and more health is always good.

Even on Insanity, I prefer the extra damage. Especially against Vorcha and Krogans. You often tend to get swarmed (Omega for example) and despite having Inferno rounds, they'll inevitably begin to regen as they spread out and use cover.

The extra health equates to maybe surviving an extra hit.

AR is pretty much essential on Insanity for a Soldier. Both for moving around as well as taking out badguys before your shields are depleted.

Adrenaline Rush is definitely not useless. It's my favorite soldier ability.

I liked increased duration on Adrenaline Rush, let's me get off more slow-mo headshots.

Increased power damage didn't appeal to me, as I really only used concussive blast on husks and Harbinger's biotic barrier.

Actually Commando is kinda pointless. Yes you get 6% more weapon damage.
However, with Shocktrooper, you get a 6% boost to Adrenaline Rush's Cooldown and Duration.

That comes out to more dps in the long run than an extra 6% weapon damage.

And sometimes I think I'm playing a different game when I hear people say things like Adrenaline Rush is useless.
AR is probably the most powerful ability in the game. It not only slows down time, allowing you to line up headshots on multiple moving targets in quick succession, it also significantly boosts your weapon damage.
Also, I can understand preferring the Revenant, but how can anyone say the Vindicator sucks? That thinkg is awesome. It has the stopping power of a shot gun, the burst fire rate of a submachine gun, almost as much accuracy as a sniper rifle and its good against both shields and armor. The Vindicator is an amazing weapon.

Damage always wins out for me.

A health boost is useless. If you're taking health damage, you're doing it wrong.

Depends on your playstyle I guess. U want to get the job done? Be a Commando. Do you like getting shot at? Be a Shock Trooper.

My thinking is, you dont get hurt if you are using the cover system. Which you should be.

As a side note, If you plan on using the revenant machine gun, improving adrenaline rush is your best bet, as activating it helps you compensate for its accuracy and stability issues

I would go with Shock Trooper because survival is more important to me than damage. I look at it this way, we already have access to warp ammo and armor piercing ammo, with their humongous boosts to damage. Also, being able to use AdRush more often means that you can line up more headshots which will be plenty enough for damage.

Look at it this way, would you rather beat the enemy a little bit more slowly or run he risk of being killed and reloading a save?

I have Shock Trooper because I think the +30% to negotiation and the power duration/cooldown bonuses outdo Commando's +9% damage advantage. 9% isn't a whole lot. Sure, it's something, but still not a whole lot.

Also, adrenaline rush is a very good skill. It's not as amazing as tech armor and not as useful as tactical cloak, but it definitely beats the sht out of biotic charge, singularity, and combat drone. Slow-mo head shots + extra damage + soldier damage = miles and miles of rape.

The Vindicator is a good weapon as well -- it does a lot of damage and is pinpoint accurate. However, it just has too few reserve mags for me to use it. That is why I used the Avenger until I got the Revenant. Don't let anyone fool you -- if you have any FPS skills (Which include recoil management, among other things), controlling the Revenant is simple. It does more damage per shot than the Avenger (Maybe as much as the Vindicator) and has a fast rate of fire. Not so accurate, but I use it at ranges where that doesn't matter anyways.
