I've been having this issue since I got the game. I dont have a very stable connect, and Mass Effect 2 seems to only allow me to import my ME1 profiles when im logged into Xbox Live. If I lose my connection during the process of the prolog, I recieve an error telling me that my profile has changed and 'press A to restart'; making the odds of me successfully starting another profile with one of my ME1 files nearly impossible. Are there any ways around this, or possible solutions in the near future?
