Let me state, I don't feel ripped off.

I feel letdown.

There is a large difference.

The game is already one of my most favs, up there with many greats, but I just feel let down by proceedures like this.

Promo items should be like the collectors armor/gun.

Totally seperate items etc.

Not like the Dr. Pepper promo items, that actually are armor additions etc.

Like I have the collectors edition, when I use the collectors armor, all the 'normal' stuff goes away.

I have no qualms with the collectors/pre order items at all.

That is the problem though. They shouldnt be. If they had devoted the resources used to create all the DLC items to putting items in the actual game the game would just plain be better.

How many helmets are there in game? 3 that i have found.
How many helets were made during the game and could have been in it but were DLC? 3

That is just offensive.

Only if you're really, really easily offended. Is the game worth $50? (Contrary to a lot of people's opinions, it is actually $50 base) If so, stop complaining. If not, I doubt a few extra pieces of armor that are honestly decent looking at best will make it worth your money.

But it doesn't.
These things were designed to be in from the start, and subsequently taken out to be promo/dlc.

... and you have cold hard proof of this? BW's game design strategy and content plans?  Your secretly talking to Jarret Lee?

I understand where you're coming from and it's a double edged sword. If companies didn't start work on DLC either during production of the main game or as soon as it's gone gold we'd be seeing complaints like "zomgz when is the dlc coming! bioware are lazy cuz they havent put out DLC yet!, etc". Especially with games like DA and ME where people start whining for DLC.

Hell I bet if we reverse the situation and Mass Effect 2 didn't see any DLC for a few months, we'd be reading threads on how EA obviously ruined Bioware because they haven't put out DLC yet....but anyways I'm just rambling now and going completely off topic so I'll just stop.

I agree about the DLC, but if it is done months before the game goes gold then we get into a fuzzy area of if it can easily be put on the disc then should it? Starting DLC before the game goes gold and finishing the DLC before it goes gold are very different.

There is a pre release/production video where they showcase the items that were later turned into the Dr. Pepper promotion items.

I cannot offer more 'evidence' than that, but really it isn't rocket science.

People who expect DLC wihin three or four months are absurd and should be ignored (just play the damn game). Everything takes time to make, and if they were unable to finish an item before finalising what went on the disc than i can understand making it DLC. But making it specifically for DLC from the beginning?
How long untill they start making different versions with varying degrees of content?

If its not planned to go on the disc and intended for use as a promotional item... then no, you should feel no entitlement towards the item.

I would like to state that Bioware has been doing this for a while now (not EA).

Its strickly to influence people to purchase new copies of the game rather then buying used games or downloading it off the internet. People who buy a new copy get the extra stuff for free (that is not required by any means to complete the game), also the extra stuff really has no relevant connection to the RPG story, making it an ideal add on.

If Bioware sells more new copies of games this way then I fully support Bioware taking this action. Hopefully the extra income will reflect onto quality down the road.

@Celevra,

I totally agree.

Really, truth be told I am pissed about the Dr. Pepper things.

I got the collectors edition, the inferno, no terminus, but that is okay, along with the other pre order/collector stuff.

I'm pissed that I have no way to (legally) obtain the Dr. Pepper stuff even if I freakin' wanted to.

If you really look closely specially zaeed, it was a part of the original game but was removed and repacked as a DLC that will be later sold when the promo expired. Crap, I just remembered all of the CE, Deluxe, and Standard items were all part of the game.

I'll put it this way:

It is very disconcerting that BioWare more then doubled the total number of armors in the game in DLC. I don't like the implications, or the fact that my armor in ME2 is basically ugly and worthless.

i dont care if they have a different department dedicated to making things for promos/dlc EVERYTHING made before the game is put onto the disc itself should be a part of the game available for all customers no matter where they bought the game, how many times they bought the game, where they live or what they like to drink.

I have no problem payig for additional content made after the game (it doesnt grow on trees) but making things and saying they should only ever be special additional items only 20% of paying customers will ever have just because they made them special just for that is absurd.

You are really ignorant of how the game industry works. Companies are always working on different projects SIMULTANEOUSLY. Sometimes they are already working on a sequel for game A when game A hasn't even been released.
By your logic, if Bioware were already developing ME3 stuff alongside ME2, they should have bundled ME3 too!

How much you pay for the game depends on a lot of factors incluing where you live.

You are okay with them making thins intended as DLC which could be put into the game?

I am perfectly fine paying for additional content made after the game but devoting resources to making DLC items pisses me off. It means they are prioritising making promo items over the actual game items.

They should not even HAVE a DLC department untill the game is finished.

It is fine to start devolpment of the sequal just before the other game is finished because they are clearly seperate.

I would like to preface this post with a statement saying I enjoyed the game despite it missing some of the more RPG esque inventory elements but I have to wonder why it is physically impossible to get the entire game?

What I mean is why did they make it so that you could not get all of the armor and weapons developed for the game IN THE ACTUAL GAME. I have no doubt EA was behind it but with all of the different pre order offers and promotions there is no actual way to get all of the weapons and armor, which is utter crap. I think that if Bioware had been able to keep it all in the game then a lot of peoples issues with the lack of inventory options would have been lessened.

Think, instead of having 2 pieces of armor in the game you would get 5...WTF is that all about. Over half of the armor inventory in the game is removed...for random promotional crap(don't brink up N7 armor types because they took 3 of those out for the Dr. Pepper crap too). That is my definition of selling out. Next time around I think maybe Bioware should not listen quite so strongly to EA's sellout division and actually make it possible to get the whole game without jumping through hoops and still not being able to get it all. That is by far the worst thing about this game, the lack of a real inventory selection both for the squads armor and for Shepards', which they effectively broke after the game was finished.

Just throwing that idea out there...Agree or Disagree that is your right.

This is the reason why a lot of people went somalian or caribbean for the DLCs if you get what i mean. Since EA is gonna rip us off anyway, why not we get what we deserve to have by any means.  (+8 renegade)
Seriously i've paid $60 for my digital deluxe edition & i don't get the coolest armor(terminus) in-game? or the awesome M-490 blackstorm projector? or even some visors? All i've got is the pre-order Inferno armor and the Collector stuff. When i pre-order i thought i'll be getting the Terminus armor & M490 as well but no. The game is great but all these DLC is just bullcrap. What next? We have to buy skill points? How bout we buy our games like a modular system - the GUI menu $10, the inventory system $15, the skills $15, Normandy $30, the combat system $15, the AI $40, dialog $20, story $20, cut-scenes $30 etc etc...........................................

Sorry mate. Your belief that Bioware somehow "cuts" content to sell it asDLC is nothing but a conspiracy theory. This has already been beaten to death in the DA forums and the devs themselves have answered this countless times.

If you think this practice somehow makes Bioware greedy/evil/sellout whatever, then I point to you that more and more games are choosing DLC as the only profitable way to make extended content for a game. Fallout3 does it, Borderlands does it, MW 2 does it. Stop living in the past.

True that DLC is the trend and i don't mind paying a little extra but now we're paying the same price (for collector's edition) as others but they get stuff you don't, how fair is that? Well no use crying over some 'exclusive junk', i'll just stick with the N7 armor anyway cause i wanna see Shep's face. Still would be nice to have M-490 though, glad i'll at least have the Inferno, Collector & Blood Dragon armor.

Again, I didn't read the whole thread, so I am sorry if aomenone already said it.

To the OP:

I think Bioware is on the right track to prevent piracy and to get some money out of the 2nd hand sales with the DLC of this type. If I was a game developer, I would do the exact same thing. Don't expect to ever have a full game again on the first place, DLC is here to stay.

So..... I guess I'm the only one who thought that the promotional items were a really fun idea?

I was quite happy that the free DLC I received in Dragon Age extended to ME2. It was like BioWare was showing appreciation for being a loyal fan of both games.

And free exclusive items for preordering and buying the collector's edition? Yes, please. It's not like this is a new concept, anyway. Seriously, I recommend that you folks check out the Collector's Editions of almost any MMORPG that's come out in recent years.

Don't really know anything about the Dr. Pepper promotional code, but then again, I don't drink the stuff anyway.

Oh well, I suppose you can't please everyone.

Indeed, the Dragon Armor was a stellar idea! It might not be big deal enough to encourage Mass Effect 2 owners to buy DAO, but surely it is an award to those who play other Bioware games too.

Where did i say any of those things?

Never said they cut content, as a matter of fact i mentioned that they had a DLC department that made thinds intended as DLC from the beginning.

Where did i sayi have a problem with DLC in general?

Do you have a problem with my opiion. (which i apparantly have to clarify). I feel that DLC should be an additional thing which is barely even considered untill the game is out.

I have no problem with dlc. I DO have a problem with it soaking up resources during initial development.
