As an infiltrator, I break the armor down and then Zaeed blows them to hell or Samara throws them to hell.
Considering you don't have Zaeed I would take....Garrus maybe? All you need is at least one biotic with an Area attack of some sort.

My advice is to take some biotics.

I just redid this mission on my third playthrough on hardcore, and I must say those husks are goddamned annoying. I first thought the Firestorm Heavy Weapon should clear them nicely, but as it seemed, this weapon deals almost no damage! That is pathetic, because when out of all missions/cases/scenarios do you actually need a functioning closequarter area-of-effect weapon to rapidly deal with only lightly armored foes if not in the Derelict Reaper and then this weapon does nothing but cost ammunition.
I reloaded an earlier save to bring the Cain along to at least deal with the Reaper Core as fast as possible (aka one shot) cause I didn't want to take on those damned Husks.
I took Mordin and Thane with me, so that Mordin can burn their armor and Thane throws them away with Throwfield, but those Husks went all over the place and only if I got lucky, Thane threw more than just one with his biotics. In short, getting rid of their armor and then bowl them with biotics doesn't work, ... too many and too random pathpattern. And I even had them tight and the upper position. Even if there where enough near enough to take a whole couple of them out, Mordin just didn't burned them but waited until I got caught in the middle of approximately six of them, ... not funny!
If at least the Shotgun would have a real knockdown effect like in ME1 (maybe not as fierce, but a real knockdown at least) one could hold them off with an all Shotgun team. Plus, they should reduce the spawning numbers or at least reduce the times of Husk spawning once you settled in their place. I hoped to get rid of them by bunkering their spawning points (works on most other missions), but they just came and came and came until the Scion finally got me to retreat. Tactical retreat is almost useless against those Husks on that mission because they just respawn, ... all you get is a little break until you got to jump in that mess again.
I've not come up with a viable tactic to deal with this mission other than try and reload. An assassin might actually just slip by and open the doors to avoid/escape the fight, but that again would be too easy and onesided as it would work only with that class.
So, to conclude for those that haven't read the whole post:
First:
Has anyone come up with a useful tactic for this mission?
Second:
I recommend to patch the Shotgun to have a real knockdown effect on Husks similar to ME1.
Thanks for those who answered and even more thanks to those that read my post entirely.

Did you try bringing a Shockwave specialist like Jack? Husks are exceedingly vulnerable to it.
On Veteran difficulty or below, Husks are easy to overwhelm with biotics, I know. And it worked quite fine my first playthrough (which was on Veteran), but on higher difficulties, Husks have a bit armor, shielding them from biotics more efficiently as it should in my opinion.
I stated in my previous post that just bringing down the armor and bowl them away may sound nice in theory, but evidently didn't work in virtuality.

Group Disruptor ammo.

Also with Disrupter Amo you can easily drop a Scion with a heavy pistol.
How does Disruptor ammo help?

Easiest way ive found to line them up is using the revenant and firing at their legs which can leave them standing still and ready for your biotic attacks. Thane is useful if you can keep him out of harms way, he has warp for the armour and throw to finish them off.

If it worked for me on Insanity, it should work for you on Casual. You must not play shooters at all. It's okay. I won't make fun.
Edit: Didn't realize that this thread was old. Problem's probably been solved at this point.

Ok... maybe I'm just really crappy... but I have max squad loyalty.... did ship upgrades... some char/weapon upgrades yada yada yada
Anyways... took Grunt and Tali with me for backup.... Shep's a vanguard
The husks... those ******** husks gang up on me and kill me! What the hell?! I never gave a damn about them in the first game!
There a good team to take em out? Plus... those... husk abomindation things.... the fused guys..... ugh.... with their damn armor.....
What's some good team/weapons to plow through them?
As a vanguard you should use heavy shockwave...another thing that works extremely well on husks is the Neural shock ability it basically killed them in one hit for me and it recharges real fast

Sooo.....Grunt/Jack or Garrus/Grunt??
Would Jack and Grunt probably be the best option?
Take Garrus/Grunt. Use concusive shot as much as possible You said you are using vanguard? Use shockwave as much as possible.

Get the melee damage upgrade.
Equip the 25% melee damage shoulder.
Beat down EVERYTHING! you can! it's pretty fun.
I just do it sometimes for kicks.
You can beat down a YMIR mech even.
Great stuff lol.

First, you can sprint through the first wave of husks, meaning you don't have to fight or kill them, run straight through until the sniper fires the first shots. you will be standing next to a cerberus sniper rifle and ammo boxes.
The next room is full of explosive boxes, the computer on the far end of the room has armor upgrade, but if you want to skip it, blow up all the boxes and sprint to the door. if you're fast you can bypass the lock and get into the next area without fighting the scion.
keep moving forward, this area is full of husks. here you can run forward then retreat backwards to pull the husks into a bottleneck where they are VERY easily killed.
scions will move very slow so they should be easy to kill and husks should be bottle necked.
finally, when shooting the core, just shoot it and use squadmate special powers (inferno grenade is great) to bring the health bar down as fast as possible. the only thing you need to finish the level is to destroy the core. run in circles while the core is sealed so the husks don't catch you.
always bring grunt.
