Hi,

I'm experiencing strange "text ghosting" and screen flickering. Everything is solid until I enter Extras -> Options, but then menu text sliding from the right to the left side of the screen will leave trails very similiar to ghosting. Like it's not enough, while hovering the mouse over the single options will leave them highlited in green... Also, when I enter the character import/creation screen, the buttons also suffer from text ghosting and the screen begins to flicker, when the loading videos (like the Mass Relay one) are playing :(

I've tried drivers 191.07 WHQL, 196.21 WHQL and 196.34 beta, but the problem persisted without even partial improvement :( My GFX card is GTX260 and I'm running Windows 7 x64.

Any suggestion will highly be appreciated.

P.S. I'll add screenshots/video of the above described issues when I get home from work.

I made a YouTube video of the issue:

I've reverted back to Windows Vista x64 SP1, installed latest drivers, DirectX, etc., even tried underclocking my graphics card, but there's not even a slightest sign of improvement. I'm truly desperate by now :(

Hum, try to isolate the case one by one.

Have you tried to reinstall the game and physX ?

Cleaned up your registry before and after each attempt ?

Have you tried to play in window mode with another resolution ?

Thanks for your reply.

Yep, I have the latest PhysX redistributable, and I've tried to reinstall the game like a million times.
I use CCleaner like 3-4 times a day, so my registry should be clean.
Same problem in windowed mode / different resolution :(

Hanar are you OC? If so have you tried with the clocks at factory defaults just to make sure?

Almost sounds like a back buffer or buffer related issue where it's not being updated or wiped correctly but I'm not DX engineer that's just a thoery.

Does setting the graphics to their minimum (not the resolution, just the quality) change anything / make it stop?

Thank you for your reply good ser.

Sure, I've tried reverting to stock clocks, I've even lowered the clocks to possible minimum, just to make sure. I also thought of a some kind of buffer or whatnot, but any other games are running fine.

Changing resolution / details does not affect the issue.

It seems that I'm not the only one experiencing this weird Menu/HUD behavior.

"flippmo12" commented on my YouTube video:

"I have a similar problem. I can play about 15min and then this happens
on the HUD and in menus. I'm looking around for a solution, though there
doesn't seem to be anyone close to one yet. (running Macbook Pro 2,4GHz
4gig ram GeForce 8600M GT on Win XP)"

I'm getting a hunch this will be nVidia-specific...

EDIT: does anybody know where to report bugs? EA customer support ignores me.

One thing you can try is disabling Ambient Occlusion for the game. I noticed when I toggled it on, I had all sorts of strange flickering in cutscenes and around certain objects. Once I turned it back off, no issues. I use nHancer so I can toggle Nvidia options and brute force them into whatever game I'm playing.

Will try but I think I already did. Double-checking will do no harm I guess :)
Thanks.

I had the same problem after having to manually install the game, m0rgus stated that there was a missing file in the installation process from retail discs. The file that I copied to the \\\\\\BioGame\\CookedPC directory was found at http://rapidshare.co...IOG_UIWorld.rar Thanks to m0rgus for finding the file and dub1969 for upload to RS. Hope it helps.

Dude you're a effin' genius, copied that file you linked and IT WORKS. Thanks a LOT!
Still, I don't get how this file could have been missing after proper installation O.o

The BIOG_UIWorld file is contained on disk, it's just not in the .rar files, it should be extracted towards the end of a normal installation, but if you unpack the .rar files for the game manually then it's not unusual for that file to not be present.

But, a horribly messed up UI can very easily be the result of this file not being present.
(sorry for being a little late popping into this thread)

I didn't unpack anything from the archives, did a proper installation through setup.exe, so that's weird. Anyways thanks everyone for the support :) Now I can finally enjoy my CE edition. Yay.

How can I solve this problem without the RS link provided by RodSerling? (because it's down)

Like Hanar I did a normal install. What file do i have to copy from the disk to where?

I don't know if the archive contained only this file, but here you go:
