Is there any reason why I can't get my previously created characters into the main game? I used the DA Creator prior, uploaded the characters to my account here, have confirmed they are there and have been, but I don't see them appear in the game itself.

I had problems uploading characters as well. It seems (at least for me) that a character won't appear on the site until you upload another one, I.E. upload one and see none, then upload a second one and see the first, and finally upload three and see the first two on the site (as is the case for me).

having the same issue. 
I created a char using CC, got it uploaded on EA
bought the DA game, started game, logged in-  no character from CC coming into DA (?).

Did you import the CC characters? They're saved in a separate folder (called Pre Release Characters). I believe there's an "import character creator characters" option and if not you simply need to go to My Documents/Bioware/Dragon Age/Pre Release Character and move the apropriate character files (I believe it's just the .chr files with the character names) into the character's folder (whatever it's called). And then there they are.
