Come on!  It's a classic love story.

Yeah, I love that idea, and agree with it.

Seconded.  It would work with any of them but Tali (and Garrus) have been there since the very beginning so it makes sense that you feel more attached to them.

I went back in time to ME1 and altered the past so my Shep didn't romance Liara. When Tali returns in ME3 there won't be any conflict for my Shep to deal with.

Cheers to time travel!

So I was just thinking about how BW would set up your squad in ME3 if you'd have gotten most of them killed. I'd like some input on this.

I've noticed that they've established the identities of plenty of characters who could replace ME2 squad members of their respective species. This is, of course, only conjecture...but given how the third installment of ME could take place after a couple of years (plenty of side quests and main missions in the after-mission reports explain how "It may take years to develop said technology, or study said subject, etc.) it's a possibility. Here's what's on my mind:

1) If, God forbid, Tali is slain on your suicide mission, Kal'Reegar might be the token Quarian that joins the Normandy. Of course, he's just a marine and no legendary machinist, but given how Quarians are so tech-savvy, he might suffice for the role of engineer. On a side note, I'm suspicious that if you don't romance Tali in ME2, she might end up with him as her LI. I'll never let that happen!

2) If Grunt were to get killed on the last mission, a more-than-probable replacement would be Urdnot Wrex (assuming you didn't shoot him on Virmire). Of course, BW would have to come up with a story to explain why Wrex would leave Tuchanka behind, right as he's re-uniting all the clans. Then again, maybe over 2 years, his job would be done and he'd no longer have any reason to stay.

3) If Samara/Morinth were to perish, Liara's definitely the next Asari candidate. Obviously she's going to be joining the crew regardless of what happens to Samara, but here's what I personally think might happen. Liara's the one who's going to initially try to join your crew (given how BW wanted to keep her alive during ME2 in preparation for ME3), but depending on whether or not you were unfaithful to her, like I obviously was ;), you'd have to make a choice between your LI's. If you reject Liara, then Samara (assuming she survived) would join your crew. If Samara died...well I guess there's gonna be a lot of hostility on board the Normandy SR3!

4) There's even a well-established Drell to replace Thane, should he perish. His son, Kolyat, could quite possibly join your team. And it wouldn't be far-fetched, either. Kolyat was already on his way to becoming an assassin just like his old man, and maybe with his time in C-Sec, he'd get adequate training required to fire a gun. Mind you, over 2 years, Thane would probably already be dead (given his illness). Unless...BW adds some post-release ME2 DLC that enables you to search for a cure for Thane's sickness! A good candidate for a character-specific "Romance Pack", in my opinion!

5) What about Garrus? Are there any other Turians able to replace him? I, myself, would bring up Sidonis. He's the only Turian that comes to mind. But I'm not so sure that Sidonis would live up to Garrus' potential! SPECIAL NOTE: If you let Garrus shoot Sidonis (or if any of the abovementioned "potential characters" have died on the loyalty missions), I believe that BW's punishment would be for us to not have any Turians on board. Consequences like these should be expected in the ME Universe.

6) Mordin? Maybe his nephew.

7) Legion? I haven't the slightest clue.

8) And as for the humans...well I've typed enough already, and I'm sure what would happen would probably be similar to what I speculated would happen with Liara vs. the LI's you chose in ME2. Also, there's plenty of human squad members to replace other humans already, so I don't think we'll have a shortage problem.

What do you think, guys?

Legion? A backup copy of Legion.

A backup copy of Legion is a cheap fix, and makes Geth life seem less special. You could replace legion with another 1183 geth inside a specialy constructed platform. But it would not be the same legion

Legion and Tali are so cute together. [and 3 combat drones at once is just uber O..o]

The sentence about the consequences is most true. I had a similar idea (posted a few hundred pages back :D), which takes this thinking to even farther extremes:

What if, Bioware makes ME the way that if you had all of your squaddies die, you are suddenly left alone with a small bunch of 'nameless' soldiers? No personal quests, no real convos, no nothing. They'd be there to help you stop the Reapers, provided to you by the Alliance, Cerberus, whoever else.

On the other hand, if you save your companions, you get the real deal: they are there for you with all the banter, romance, sidequests.

In this case, we'd be talking about real consequences, not just a simple change of squad. I do hope Bioware is brave enough to make it happen (or anything on a comparable magnitude and outcome).

Tali's drone does rock.   I played as an Engineer, so it was me, Tali, and Garrus.  Two combat drones + two area affect hacking + overload equals steam rolling any sort of mechanicle oposition.  I think the term i used earlier was "Crazy smoldering scrap metal syndrome"

Always have Tali in my group.  hopefully for me3 as well.

1) Remember that Kal could die on the Tali recuit mission.
2) Maybe, maybe not.
3) Why SR3, this normandy won't be destroyed or anything. Samara might go for her Justicar duties. I don't think Liara will care much, it's her own fault.
4) Yeaah I didn't like him at all, and his face was very weird too. I think Thane will stay... I doubt it'll take 2 years anyway. But again as you said maybe we'll find a cure.
5) Why in the world would Garrus leave? And if he dies on the suicide mission, well, it's the players' fault.
6) If Mordin dies... honestly don't know, but if he doesn't, he's staying for sure.
7) A back up copy. He'll find you again as some other geth and say "Hai, I had to reinstall my windows, so yeah I'm back".

They are thousands and thousands of different programs, but they are basically one conciousness conected together through the neural network. Each geth soldier is about 100 of thos programs put into a mobile platform. Legion is similar, but has over 1000 programs inside of him.

That would be an awesome Idea and you have a Shephard that is trying to figure out what s/he is fighting for ...

Friends dead

Lover... Dead

What would have left...  plus I would laugh at the all people  that did not take the time to build their crew so they could survive... I walked into this game with the mind set of I am bringing everyone home from this mission.

Geth are just software, ofcourse it wouldn't be quite the same Legion, just an earlyer vertion of him.

He may have never met Shepard before, or he might be from just before the suicide mission.

I agree with you completely! I actually do suspect that BW would go so far as to actually punish our poor choices by providing us with a squad of simple Alliance/Cerberus soldiers, depending on what ending you chose. I've never though about the future outcome of a game and all its possibilities as much as I have with Mass Effect. It's so...refreshing. Thanks for your input! However far-fetched my predictions may have been, I'd still like to hear more opinions. Maybe I should bring the subject back up later in the evening, when there's more activity.

It's probably Chiktika vas Paws. A reference to Chiktika Fastpaws who is a pet of a gnome deity in Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. In that game, there's a winged elf companion who worships said gnome deity. She's called Aerie and her characteristic traits are innocence, intelligence and beauty. This reminds me of a certain ME1/2 character... Who is that again? Always forget the name...
