So I was just thinking about how BW would set up your squad in ME3 if you'd have gotten most of them killed. I'd like some input on this.
I've noticed that they've established the identities of plenty of characters who could replace ME2 squad members of their respective species. This is, of course, only conjecture...but given how the third installment of ME could take place after a couple of years (plenty of side quests and main missions in the after-mission reports explain how "It may take years to develop said technology, or study said subject, etc.) it's a possibility. Here's what's on my mind:
1) If, God forbid, Tali is slain on your suicide mission, Kal'Reegar might be the token Quarian that joins the Normandy. Of course, he's just a marine and no legendary machinist, but given how Quarians are so tech-savvy, he might suffice for the role of engineer. On a side note, I'm suspicious that if you don't romance Tali in ME2, she might end up with him as her LI. I'll never let that happen!
2) If Grunt were to get killed on the last mission, a more-than-probable replacement would be Urdnot Wrex (assuming you didn't shoot him on Virmire). Of course, BW would have to come up with a story to explain why Wrex would leave Tuchanka behind, right as he's re-uniting all the clans. Then again, maybe over 2 years, his job would be done and he'd no longer have any reason to stay.
3) If Samara/Morinth were to perish, Liara's definitely the next Asari candidate. Obviously she's going to be joining the crew regardless of what happens to Samara, but here's what I personally think might happen. Liara's the one who's going to initially try to join your crew (given how BW wanted to keep her alive during ME2 in preparation for ME3), but depending on whether or not you were unfaithful to her, like I obviously was

, you'd have to make a choice between your LI's. If you reject Liara, then Samara (assuming she survived) would join your crew. If Samara died...well I guess there's gonna be a lot of hostility on board the Normandy SR3!
4) There's even a well-established Drell to replace Thane, should he perish. His son, Kolyat, could quite possibly join your team. And it wouldn't be far-fetched, either. Kolyat was already on his way to becoming an assassin just like his old man, and maybe with his time in C-Sec, he'd get adequate training required to fire a gun. Mind you, over 2 years, Thane would probably already be dead (given his illness). Unless...BW adds some post-release ME2 DLC that enables you to search for a cure for Thane's sickness! A good candidate for a character-specific "Romance Pack", in my opinion!
5) What about Garrus? Are there any other Turians able to replace him? I, myself, would bring up Sidonis. He's the only Turian that comes to mind. But I'm not so sure that Sidonis would live up to Garrus' potential! SPECIAL NOTE: If you let Garrus shoot Sidonis (or if any of the abovementioned "potential characters" have died on the loyalty missions), I believe that BW's punishment would be for us to not have any Turians on board. Consequences like these should be expected in the ME Universe.
6) Mordin? Maybe his nephew.
7) Legion? I haven't the slightest clue.
8) And as for the humans...well I've typed enough already, and I'm sure what would happen would probably be similar to what I speculated would happen with Liara vs. the LI's you chose in ME2. Also, there's plenty of human squad members to replace other humans already, so I don't think we'll have a shortage problem.
What do you think, guys?
