Very true, I did not think of that.
Maybe the Krogan Rebellion?
Or the First Contact War.

I think they'd have to avoid the Geth-Quarian war. No matter how well written it was, people would accuse it of ripping off BSG.

Concur. Television and movie wouldn't be based on Commander Shepard anyways. Would be a new story.

That's the thing, though.
The point wouldn't be to replicate the game, that would be impossible.
But Bioware has created a rich universe that has potential outside the videogame medium.
They already have two novels, which may not be the best books every written, but I find them an enjoyable way to stay immersed in the universe in a separate story after I've already turned off my Xbox.

"What do you got, Joker?" asked Commander Shepard as he pulled into the cockpit.
"I'm getting signs of a distress beacon. Quarian ship, I think. Should I patch it through?"
There was a slight hesitiation as Shepard mulled it over. "Do it," he said. Joker nodded, glided his fingers across the console in front of him, and the image of a male Quarian appeared.
"Help! This is the Quarian Salvage ship known as the Sulla, and we--wait. Shepard?" said the Quarian unbelievably.
"Reegar?" the Commander echoed.
Joker looked confused. "Wait--what?" he asked, dumbstruck.
"Aw, hell, I sure am glad to see you!" Reegar boomed happilly. "Is Tali on board? She's okay, I take it?"
"Yes, Tali is on board. What are you doing out here? What's wrong?"
Reegar cleared his throat. "Right. We ain't holdin' so well, Shepard. Some Geth bastards found us in deep space. They're tearing our ship apart. Don't suppose you could lend a hand?"
"We'll be right there, Reegar. Hold on. Help's on the way." Shepard assured. Blaster fire zipped by Reegar's head, and the Quarian ducked instinctively. "Quick! Take them out!" Reegar roared, firing a shot from his rifle. He turned to Shepard once more. "Hurry, Shepard! We'll hold them as long as we can! Keelah Se'lai!" And with that, the image faded.
Joker looked confused. "So... we're going in, I take it?" he asked.
"Damn straight. Plot a course, Joker, and ready the canons." Shepard confirmed, heading towards the armory.
Joker sighed behind his back, and EDI popped up to the left of him. "Something wrong, Jeff?" she asked.
He turned to the AI. "I just don't see why we got to fight all of these dangerous things. First the Geth, then the Collectors, and now the Geth again. Oh yeah, not to mention Cerberus and the Reapers. Can't we ****** off a fuzzy planet? I mean, hey, come on. Bunnies."
EDI hesitated before replying: "You're an idiot."
Joker rolled his eyes. "Go compute Pi, or something..."
* * * * *
"A Quarian ship?" Tali squeeked, her interest sparked. "Reegar was aboard?"
"Affirmitive," Shepard confirmed, trying to keep a professional tongue among his crew.
Garrus itched his scarred face thoughtfully. "Geth, eh? And here I was, thinking this would be too easy."
Grunt pounded his fists together anxiously. It's been nearly two months since they lat had a fight. No doubt the Krogan was anxious. "Ready, battlemaster. Let's tear them apart!"
"Easy, Grunt," Shepard soothed. "The gameplan is this: We get aboard the Sulla, and see what the situation is. Garrus and Grunt will come with me. The rest of you, stay on the ship."
Legion's light flickered, and he spoke up in his sythetic voice: "Shepard-Commander. Is it not sensible thsat I attend? I am Geth afterall."
"No, Legion," Shepard disagreed. "We don't know how the Quarians will react to that. Stay on the ship with everyone else."
"Affirmitive."
"Shepard," Tali began. "Perhaps I should go with you... Kal'Reegar is my friend, and--"
"No, Tali." Shepard said with a stoic expression. "I need you to stay on the ship, too."
Tali's head dropped and she nodded. Shepard turned to Garrus and Grunt. "You two, get to the shuttle. I'll be right behind you." They nodded in understanding, and left. Shepard focused on Tali once more, taking both of her hands. "Tali, I need you to stay aboard--"
"No, you don't." Tali snapped. "You don't need me to, you want me to." Shepard couldn't see her expression under that mask of hers, but he assumed her beautiful face was wrinkled with lines of frustration. He didn't know what to say. "But I know you're just worried about my protection," she stated, voice becoming more calm. She pressed closer to him. "But I'm worried about yours too. Be careful. Please?"
Shepard smiled. "Don't worry, Tali," he assured. "I'm Commander Shepard after all."
"And sometimes you can be one stupid bosh'tet," Tali added. They shared a small laugh, and Tali placed her head against his chest where it stayed while they exchanged a warm hug. He let go of her, and went off towards the shuttle. Tali watched, and worry swept over her as she feared the worst might happen aboard the Sulla. She turned, and began to walk back towards Engineering.
Shepard entered the shuttle, where Garrus and Grunt acknowledged him from their seats. He situated himself, and the door closed behind him. Without warning, the shuttle took off, leaving the Normandy, and heading for the Geth-infested ship.
