I came across this thread in gamefaqs on how to decrease load times for us people using dual core processors.

Seems like this fix really reduces the load times for people using dual core processors.

Any feedback from the devs here about this? Would be great if they could introduce this fix in a later patch, instead of doing it every time we start up the game.

Ok. This amazed me. I have a Dual Core 3.0 Ghz machine. I thought 2-3 minutes load times from deck to deck were just normal.

Then I looked around, and a found information similar to what was posted by the OP. I alt-tabbed out of ME2, toggled the affinity to 1 core, then back to 2, then switched back into the game.

2 minute load times dropped to 5 seconds. I sure hope they can fix this so I don't have to alt-tab out and screw with process affinities every time I launch ME2. I was really dismayed by the load times, and I'm glad it's just a bug I'm a bit more dismayed that I'm not seeing a sticky about this.

I've heard that the game wont go to the next area until the animations shown during loading has played completely. By using the single core fix, switching the loadanimations to still images, the load times vanishes.

Just tested it and the fix works wonders all right.

Here's hoping the devs can see this and hopefully apply a fix or patch for it

It's not a 'fix', it's a hack workaround.

I'm bumping this so hopefully it will get someone's attention.

I just found a more permanent solution for people who have NVidia cards: Go into NVidia control panel, then 3-D settings. Click add in the "Program Settings" tab and find your masseffect.exe or masseffect2.exe. In the list of possible gameplay options there should be an option called "Multi-Display/mixed-GPU acceleration. Click the drop down menu on that, and make sure to set the option to "Compatibility Performance Mode".

There you have it! Thanks to that, I was able to play about 4 hours straight without suffering one hiccup. It doesn't load as fast as the 1-core disable/enable thing, but it's still much faster than if you just start up the game without doing nothing, plus it's a far more permanent solution.

On my PC loading times are a bit strange. There are two situations that occur: Either I start the game and all loading times are very short from start until I close the game or I start the game and all loading times are long from start until the end. Don't know what is the cause for that. Have to try if that is a solution for the long times.

Seeing that there are multiple threads about this same fix, maybe it would be best if a moderator can merge the respective threads

Not only that, but it would be good to see this get recognized as an issue they are actively working on - it really does spoil the game, making it a chore to play unless you do the workaround.

Not that it's a big deal since you can't skip the bioware and EA loading screens (brutal publisher sin IMO), so you have time to do it before you even get to the main menu.

Tried that, doesn't work.

The problem we're talking about is not during gameplay. For me, gameplay is just fine.

The problem is the load times between level. For example, it takes me about 45 seconds to load the captains cabin on the Normandy when I get in the elevator.

If I do the affinity trick, it drops to less than a second.

Fix also slightly improves gameplay on lower end computers.

most of the time mine is fine. Rarely though, dual core will mysteriously switch off

Looks like this hasn't been addressed in the latest patch. Is there an eta for the fix?

I've experienced this bug once. The load screens got never-ending all of a sudden. So then I accidentally pressed the spacebar... it made a weird sound and got through.

This works like a charm, and it's literally from 1-2 mins to 5 seconds, the loading animation doesn't have time to show the little floor highlight get to whatever floor you're going to. THANK YOU SO MUCH this was really getting on my nerves since I like to talk to my guys after every single Mission.

BioWare, please, if you can, make a permanent fix for this. I doubt it's possible since it's not the game but the engine that's messed up... but at least look into it! Fix this and the game is flawless.

I think they included a new bug with Kasumi's Stolen memory where some load screens are only over when the animation's complete. There's a fix for that replacing the load screen with a simple Mass Effect 2 logo but I completely forgot how to do that.
