I'm a bit curious, so tell me, what do you know about the mighty land of Finland? (without consulting wikipedia)
Some popular myths:
- We have polar bears walking amok in our cities (well, this is not true)
- We drink a lot of beer (guilty, this is very true)
- Winter is looooong and dark (very true, I hate wintertime here....)
What do YOU know about Finland?

I'm curious, why are the Åland Islands so big on asserting their independence when almost nobody else in the world is even aware of their existence?
Otherwise, I know a lot of awesome music came from Finland. Rattus, Terveet Kadet, Massacre, Painajainen, Riistetyt, Kaaos... I think a lot of these bands came from around Tampere. Now your country seems to be exporting cheesy metal like HIM, Nightwish, and the 69 Eyes. What gives?
PS: From America, thank you for paying back your war loans from WWII. I think you're still the only country to actually have done so.

Yep, finland always pays its loans
I remember when our history teacher told us a nice little trivia about those war reparations to russia. You know sauna? The hot room? Well, russians demanded that they receive a train car with sauna on it. Well, us finns built really classy sauna made from the finest wood. Russians sent it back with some appeals that the sauna doesn't meet their standards. They actually demanded that the saunabenches must be made with iron (or metal, don't remember excatly). Well, we made iron benches to them....
About Åland island, I really don't know. They seem to think they are swedish, so they're always biased towards there. Most of them even speak swedish and not finnish. They're like an annoying grandma next door, always complaining
About music, you kindaa took me by surprise, since I have neverd heard of those bands
(Rattus. terveet kädet, massacre, painajainen, kaaos or riistetyt)
Nightwish is pretty good band though.

I know you have a language like no other country in origin, apart from Hungary (at least, that's what we studied, same origin).
I also know that Russia invaded your country once, and failed at conquering it (although a part of it went to Russia, if memory serves well?)
It's a Scandinavian country (NO WAY?! that was awfully obvious)... or not? I don't know. I consider that Scandinavia, my apologies if I am wrong.
... I'm afraid that's about it. Wasn't the person we call in our country "Miklavž" supposed to come from Finland too?

All those bands I listed are total fist-in-your-face ripping hardcore punk rock from early to mid 1980s. The Scandinavian countries and Japan are pretty well known for putting out legendary bands and "Holy Grail"-type records for collectors to throw money at (Just to get an idea of some of these records, hop onto Popsike and do a search on "Riistetyt," "Varaus," or "Rattus"
). A lot of it started out heavily influenced by Discharge and other UK82 type bands but different countries quickly evolved their own unique twists on the hardcore sound. Very angry/political/anti-war type stuff, way better than a lot of American hardcore that seemed more concerned with party/drinking/parents-and-school-suck lyrical content.
Some classic Finnish HC sound:
Riistetyt
Rattus
Mellakka (Old song, old footage, new video)
Massacre + Sekaannus (split 7")
KFTH is always a good resource for info on classic HC punk from around the world.

"If you want a good rally driver, search in Finland"
Nah, all you need is frenchman now...darn that sebastian...
"That English is easier to learn than their national language."
You don't say? Finnish is one of the most hardest languages on earth. Come to think of it, it would be kinda cool if some addition to dragon age there would be Stennish character who only speaks finnish :-D
"good hockey team, um, they sound like swedish people? admittedly, very little."
Well, our hockey team is quite good, especially when facibn sweden. There's that something in those matches. Kiprusoff is one of the best goalies around, don't you agree?
"Teemu Selanne was born in Helsinki"
Ah, The Finnish Flash. Yes, he was born in helsinki. Wonder when he retires...
"Look at the "Casualties and losses" section"
Yes, it was common to say that one finn equals 10 russians. Don't really know if that's true, but still. Finland lost that war, as in interim peace russia pretty much got what she wanted. You know Simo Häyhä? The White death? He was one of the best snipers ever, and he used a friggin' mosin-nagant. He was credited with 505 confirmed kills of Soviet soldiers and 542 if including the unconfirmed death. Häyhä was also credited with over two hundred kills with a Suomi submachine gun, thus bringing his credited kills to at least 705. All of Häyhä's kills were accomplished in fewer than 100 days. Beat that. Oh, and he died of old age.
"It's a Scandinavian country"
Yes, we are in scandinvia, neighboring Norway, Sweden and Russia.

The capital is Helsinki. I think it was originally apart of the Soviet Union. Also, it was a land unconquered by the Roman Empire, I think. Churches are mostly made of wood, if I'm correct.

Managed to organise a formidable defense against the USSR in late 1930s. Snowy guerilla warfare.
Was the only democracy that sided with Germany against USSR. Was part of the Swedish Empire a long time ago. Nice interesting country.
