Grunt can do anything better than you. I mean jacob.

But seriously, even though he's an ever so slightly boring character (not as bad as Kaiden), I would still like to use him in my party. However, it seems like by taking him I gimp myself somewhat by not taking Grunt instead. Let's look at the skills:

Jacob - Grunt
  • Incendiary Ammo = Incendiary Ammo | Nothing to discuss here
  • Barrier = Fortification | These skills are basically identical
  • Pull ≈ Concussive shot | I can see the argument for pull as CC, but concussive blast can do CC pretty well too, plus the damage isn't shabby either.
  • Cerberus Operative <<<<< Krogan Berserker | Berserker gives about the same health and damage bonuses (a bit more health and a bit less damage), but also offers significant regen bonuses.
  • Shotgun/pistol < Shotgun(including Claymore)/Assault Rifle
Add to this that Grunt has naturally much higher health and armor and a powerful melee attack, there's really no reason to ever have Jacob in your party.:(

Personally Jacob isn't my favorite character really. He was cool in the thing depicting him saving the Council though, stopping that biological agent and what not. :)

Grunt is amazing. Jacob is not.

I really enjoyed Jacob's character. Not a fan of Raphael Sbarge's voice, and Jacob was a lot more interesting to me. He's a good guy working for the bad guys, and he's wise enough to realize that although they're the only ones willing to do what it takes, sooner or later they will go too far.

Pull, especially if you upgrade it to Field Pull, is great. A lot more useful than Concussive Shot, because if you get someone in your party with Throw then the combination of powers is a lot more useful. For more fun you can cast Singularity, Pull and then Throw all the enemies while their mass is severely reduced by Pull. It makes the Throw much more powerful.

Or you can use your heavy weapon to rip them apart while they're all stuck in one place.

Agreed.

Except on Insanity. Where it feels like I've taken Garrus and Miranda everywhere. =/

I used grunt, even though I had all his skills as a solider, until I got Legion, Legion is just to bad ass to pass up. but it was a hard decision, I was like " should I take the Mech or the Angry Dinosaur?..... **** I can't decide!"

I actually did this too.  Most of the time I brought Miranda along just because I wanted to hear what she would have to say.

Grunt is a Krogan.

Jacob likes fish sticks.

Grunt wins.

Anyone use Jacob at any point other than the first missions and the loyalty quest?

Jacob and I seemed to have some sort of Awkward 'Bromance' thing going on. But I thought he was okay. I appreciated the respect he showed and I found him to be a pretty stand up guy.

I used him quite a bit up until I could finally go after Tali. Then never had the room in my group to use him again outside of his Loyalty quest.

Nah. I don't know why, but i tend to end up being incredibly bored by most of the human characters. At least those with military background. You end up discussing the everyday hopes and fears of a marine mixed with the ever present officer/subordinate dilemma and ultimately end up humping for no particular reason.

I used jacob for his pull ability to set up my Warp Bombs. Other'n that, he just didn't measure up. Once Samara was in the mix, Jacob spent alot of time repairing weapons on the ship.

I used grunt alot, including the suicide mission. I used jacob when i want to do biotic combos, but he became obselete when i recruited Samara&Thane, than i used them as my biotic Duo. As a soldier the Grunt/Thane combo was extremly effective on the suicide mission: warp/conccusive blast to take care of barriers, warp/inferno ammo to take care of scions, pull field/Claymore shotgun to take care of husks and drones.

At some point I started taking Garrus and Grunt with me everywhere. Not sure why but I'd look at the roster for mission and couldn't find a reason to take any of them bsides those two.
After the fact, I often wished I'd brought someone else just to see what they'd have to say (such as miranda in the jack loyalty mission.)
Basically my choices were based on who could stay alive the best without my intervention and who could be trusted to be able to bring down the enemies.
Grunt and Garrus always came through for me.

With my first play through as a Soldier I used Jakob or Miranda for a good bit of it. His pull can be a good CC if your a more gun heavy class. But now that I am playing my second playthrough as an Adept he is collecting dust in the Armory. I basically use Garrus and Grunt for almost everything. Unless I want to go pure Biotic group for sh$%s and giggles, then I use Morinth and Jack.

Just so I could play with his Pull for my Sentinel til I got SuZe. Then it was curtains for him, off to the Armoury to sulk in a corner.
