Hardly readable Disk

There seems to be some securtiy measure onboard that makes the PC disks (at least in my drive) hardly readable.
For the first 5 minutes the disks show up empty, after that, I can see the files on the disk but whenever I want to start the setup it says the executable is incomplete. Autorun Launcher just crashes.
Currently I try to copy all the content to my hdd, lets see.

But what gives? I hate stupid **** like that. Why making it a pain in the arse before I have even started the game once. I'm already fed up, and half of the time I set aside to play is already wasted, too.

To make this topic not just a rant:

- Do you have experienced similiar problems?
- Are there any known fixes to this?
- Are the DVDs crippled intentionally as some sort of copy-protection?
- WHY?

Perhaps I should give some PC/OS information for this to be any use:

- Intel QX97something
- Asus Rampage Board
- Windows Vista "up-to-date" 32bit
- LG "super-multi" DVD drive

Also here's a shot of what i get when running setup:

Copied it to hdd, same problem

Also using the no crc /NCRC option from an elevated commandline did just lead to an instant crash of the setup executable.

Hi, Just to add a few comments. I think there have been many people with the same or similar issues with the PC discs. I had two problems,

1.) The second disc not being readable when called for by the installer.
2.) The second disc taking a very very long time to install and getting to about 98% complete and a message saying installation failed.

I have to say with some persisteance over friday afternoon and evening I did manage to get it installed ok.

I have to agree with you that I reckon its a some sort of security thing, maybe not with the bioware discs directly but some sort of legacy security program running on the pc from a previous game. Securom sprang to mind. I might be talking out my ass.. just offering some thoughts. Anyway persistant trying for me got it installed eventually without resorting to any tinkering with the pc.

Thanks for reply. Lets see how it'll work out. But I hate to be made jump through all these hoops just to play a game I bought.

Update from my quest for ME2:

I restarted the system, the DVD gets recognized but now another error states that "the side-by-side" configuration is incorrect.

So to resolve the side-by-side issue, I have installed the current visual c++ redistributable:

http://www.microsoft...ang=en#filelist

As this didn't help I went for the 2005, 2008 and 2008 SP1 vcredists too.

This sadly didn't help either.

Disk out, Disk in.. Autorun...

Guys this is getting ridiculous, am I supposed to see every error possible before playing?

to make sure this is a disk "issue" (micro$oft-word for fuc..up, bug) just copy over the whole dvd to your harddrive in an own directory. (disc1 i named mine).

after this copy the RAR-files of dvd 2 into the same directory

then launch setup from the disc 1 directory.

if copying works fine you know then neither the discs are faulty nor your dvd-drive.

i did not install my game from the dvd´s, but from my own disc 1 directory, and that worked.

i recomend doing this with all games, just for exactly this case, to verify that dvd and dvd-drives work together. thers nothing worse than a f...ed up installation with only half the data in it, and its neither complete nor incomplete.

i hope this helps you a bit :)

Well, so on a freshly installed Vista there are no problems.

One could say, "so it was your fault, not ME2s" however I would have to disagree.

With the one time online logins etc, why even care for some restrictive drm measures on the disks themselves? Also perhaps ME2s protection would cause problems in the next game I would install. Who knows... As it is all security by obscurity.

I have the same problem, the disks not being immediately recognized or recognized at all when placed in the DVD drive, maybe I'll try your suggestion and nuke vista, maybe the game will finally install and be recognized by my PC.. just have to wait to get my replacement disks...if ever T_T

sigh... gotta reserve another weekend just to clean house where my PC is concerned...ah well..the joys of installing copy protected software... and this was supposed to be just a "disk check" protection... ah well... thanx for the suggestion...
