To the OP: If you take a look at the executable (daorigins.exe is the only file updated by this patch), you'll find it is dated 10/29/2009 11:54 A.M.
In case you don't see my point, that was before the release of the game, so they aren't "consoling" anyone. They knew about the problems; they created a patch; they ran it through QA testing (presumably); and now, 11/5/2009 they released it.
Oh, and daoriginsgdf.dll seems to have been updated, too, and though it wasn't cited in the patch log window--but anyway, it's dated 10/27/2009.

I've been playing through on nightmare - and I was a bit surprised when I dropped it down to normal (just to try it) that, while it was certainly easier, it wasn't as vast a difference as I suspected.
So, this was probably a good change. Although perhaps another option would have been to add a "Very Easy" difficulty mode (analogous to the new settings for Easy) and leaving Easy and Normal where they were.
And perhaps a "You seem to be dying. Like... a lot. Would you like to reduce the difficulty?" Dialog box during the Origin section of the game

I had a similar experience too when I changed from Hard to Nightmare, as I wasn't finding the fights all that difficult after a couple hours of play. I didn't really find that much difference between the two other than a bit more damage as such.

The made easier -> easier, and increase attack, defense etc on normal. I think it's a joke, I was fine before I liked the ass kicking.

This doesn't suck per se... but I am playing at Normal and I've had a lot of fun with the difficulty of the game. I hope 'slightly' doesn't mean anything drastic

I am playing on Normal (well I have my Mage on easy because I suck at spell casting) and enjoying it.. I hope that this doesn't make Normal too much easier - I like some challenge and Hard is just too much for my style of play.
