Everything else aside, if there is no better reward for killing a normal enemy or an elite enemy, why have the elite enemy at all. Why not just put more normal enemies in the game. As I see it now elite enemies are just an ammo sink. I dont look forward to seeing them on the battlefield at all, doesn't that sound like a broken mechanic to you zigaroma?

Yes I hate this new system too. The worst part is the fact that you only need 1000 experience to ever level up. Their is no progressively larger xp bar. No idfference between level 1 - 2 and level 29 - 30. You are guarenteed to level up every time you finish a main mission in this game.

You know the "If it ain't broke don't fix it" principle?  It ain't made its way north of the border yet.

Sadly, most of the "innovations" have not heard this statement.
Ammunition any1?

The XP system is ridiculous. In theory Shepard can buff his team up and sit back and hardly kill anyone and let his team do all the work while he smokes a spliff behind the crates.

XP should be based on who kills what and that way it would make replays more interesting.

I have to agree with Zigaroma. I've played the game through twice and I love the story, the improved aiming system, and the smarter AI, but they way they did the rpg and character game mechanics is really poor. The "mission complete" way of doing things is a poor choice when trying to create the illusion of realism. ME1 gave the feeling of an open and flowing galaxy, not a series of levels like "Mario Bros". The lack of inventory not only limits your options, but further takes away control and customization of your allies, which is where ME2 suffers the most. As I play ME2 I continually feel like I'm playing "Gears of War", which is a good game, but if I want to play something that reminds me of "Gears of War" I'll go play "Gears of War". I am sure Bioware made their choices with the best intentions, but many of the elements that made ME1 an amazing game are not present in ME2.

Lol it was to put things in perspective, there are several million who play the game and dont mind the no xp for kills thing, but, the few that arnt happy can complain up a storm and change things, nor was it directed at any one group, i have yet to put in my dollar on the subject, yes i have a whole dollar, not just cents deal with it! :P )

But i digress, i have seen 3 people complain loudly about things no one else in a game cares about and get that thing changed and it pisses off alot of people, and not many devs are willing to backtrack a change and admit they messed up.

Why are people even bothering to mention that the old leveling method was worse because it rewards people who go out of their way to kill everything?  Um, hello, you can't really skip enemies on missions and have to kill them anyway.  The only difference now is you don't progressively increase in power, you simply jump from A to Z with a mission over screen which is retarded and is just one of the few RPG elements that were completely removed.

Those same 3 people are who got the system changed from ME1 to the system you now enjoy. So maybe we should take them down off the cross.

Not true, I can sit back behind cover spamming cloak as an infiltrator and wait for my teamates to kill them all. Sometimes, you can just run past your enemies and reach the next checkpoint.

before i was obsessed with maximizing my exp gain, now i can just focus the mission objective, regardless of methods. there is no more decisions like should i kill this guy just for some exp for me to make, so i welcome the change.

You = your team, not "just Shephard".  I can't believe you actually said that.  And there are very few instances where you can simply skip killing enemies.  So few in fact that it's not even worth mentioning.  It's dumb how it doesn't matter how many enemies you kill or how long or short the mission is, you get the exact same amount of experience in every one.

Hell yeah... first time I saw a mission complete screen it took the game down a notch.  Contributes to the too-linear feeling of the game.   I like how they cut out extra traveling time with cutscenes though.

I can see the points of both sides on this discussion. I haven't got the game myself but i have played it a bit at a friend.

I can easily say that the shooting and dialogue parts of the game are AWESOME. If the game had just a few sets of armor throughout the world, to give you the feeling that you are upgrading your character and an inventory system that you could access while on missions, i think many more people would be pleased.

As for the xp being gained by killing everything.....i don't know if i agree, i'm 50/50. There are people that prefer not to go searching every single planet available and i think Bio went the other direction so you get more xp on the main quests and don't feel too left behind.
