OS: Windows 7 x64 Home Premium
Game: ME2
Type: Retail (Disc)

The problems that occur are:
  • I need to login to Cerberus every time I start the game
  • I lose all my achievements on Game Restart
  • My save options for Subtitles to be on isn't kept.
OK, so this has happened before on other games as well, and I'm pretty sure I know why. My "Documents" folder location is not set to the Windows 7 default (its on a different drive), and as such the entire profile
folder inside the BIOGame Documents folder is missing.

So I know that this is the problem.. does anyone have a decent solution for it? And don't say "change your my documents folder back to default" like another unnamed game company said, thats just poor form :P I've changed the location for a reason...

I have the same problem. Did you find a fix?

The only possible solution I can give you is to move it. ;) I know you may have reasons to not want it on the C: drive, but I've read others say that pointing your My Documents folder to the root directory of a partition is the issue - that as long as it is in its own My Documents (or whatever you want to call it) folder, ME2 should be able to work with a partition other than C:.

Can't confirm this myself, so if you do try moving it into a sub-directory on a non-C drive (assuming it isn't already in such a position) it would be good to hear how it goes.

Mine is already on a non-C drive. Moving it to C: doesn't change anything.

So why don't you simply move your documents to its default location anyways?

I have the same problem with logging in each time, but you can fix the save problem by creating a folder named after your character in the save directory. ie "John Shepard".  It's also of note that you can't save until after you talk to the Illusive man.  I think the first saves go in to the save folder, but if you move those in to the folder it will show those careers.

I just got back to playing this again (plagued by bugs at the beginning) since I have a single core, I waited for 1.02 patch, but I lost interest by the time that came out. Now I'll give it another go, but the logging in thing really bugs me. I had hoped they would have fixed that. My Documents is not in the default location either, it's on a different secure drive, so if I need to reinstall window I won't have to worry about losing it.

I wonder if symlinks would solve this problem? Assuming the problem is nothing more than ME2 being hardcoded to look in the default My Documents location, I bet they would. That is, create a virtual folder/symlink in the default location for My Documents pointing to the actual location.

Using Symlinks in Windows Vista (should apply to 7 as well, as far as I know)
