You are misinformed about that as well.  P4s were still being sold in PCs as recently as two years ago.  No one has asked for the rest of the components' makeup, and video cards are half of game performance anyway.

His CPU is slightly below the official minimum, and the real facts we are learning are ithat the CPU requirements were grossly overstated, and the video requirements were understated in the official requirements.  Several PCs with AMD K7s are running the game, and some P4s slower than the one the OP has are doing so.

What about multi core rendering? Doesn't that help as well? I notice that DA:O always uses 2 cores (2 rendering threads in main menu), and in game it goes up to 6 cores (6 rendering threads when playing)

From what I have experienced, multi core rendering help in boosting FPS and performance.

I have also played the game twice on my P4 on medium settings. No problems at all, except for some lag at the very end, and there could be a number of possible reasons for this from what I'm reading on other threads. Played on 1152 x 864 resolution though, which is pretty low compared to most. However, I find its quite okay, and made it easier to read the smaller text anyway (getting old :P). Oh and had a forehead slapping moment near the end of my first play-through when I realised I could extend the quickbar by a simple click and drag. Doh!

BTW, particularly for older PCs, I think it's really important that you make sure the cpu is getting all the air it needs, which meant a big clean up in my case (pun unintended?). It made all the difference.
