You have to bring it's health down to 0. Half way isn't enough.

Try to stun him or slow him down with any skills you got, and move character that it lock on lure him while others make damage.

If you have mages with you just throw frost magic on him every time you can. If he runs after one of your weak characters then pause and move it away.

Playing on hard, it is one of the simplest battles. If anything I had more trouble with large groups where you have to worry about way more targets.

Just make sure your ranged guys are separated on opposite sides of the room, and hit the ogre from far away. If he chases them it will take a while for him to get there.

Make sure you have a good melee-dps guy flank the ogre (I actually switched Alistair to a two handed sword just for this). If he picks a guy up use any stun abilities or spells. Heal pots when low on health.

It's not that difficult.

Why are you asking for spoilers in General discussion? There's is a spoiler room ya know? And those of you answering him please in the future nicely ask them to move their thread to the spoiler room and answer them there.

Hardly a spoiler, as it doesn't encompass any part of the story surrounding the tower and that part of the game.

Not to mention that Bioware spoiled this part of the game a million times over with screenshots, trialers, promotions, etc.

If he was asking "what happens after I kill the Ogre?" or something along those lines, that is going into SPoiler territory.

It would be considerate of him to do so in the future, as I'm sure if he gets his answers here... he will ask future questions here.

From the top of the forum....

"Dragon Age: Origins General Discussion (NO SPOILERS ALLOWED)
This forum is for general discussion of Dragon Age Origins - No story or gameplay spoilers here!"

Not that I truly care, but the point is made pretty clear. There are people who don't want to read spoilers, hence the spoiler section.

Its actually rather easy since it is one guy. How to kill the ogre in 4 easy steps.

1) Switch all your guys to ranged weapons.

2) Spread them out across the area.

3) Everyone shoot the Ogre.

4) Whoever the Ogre starts attacking runs around in circles. When the ogre switches targets, run the new guy around.

That's it. I'm thinking people who find this game too hard on normal mostly just run at stuff and bash it until either it or they fall down.

Gameplay spoiler?  Maybe it's just late, but that seems like a very broad term and pretty cryptic as to what it actually encompasses.

You mean you wouldn't advise slamming ones face into the keyboard as a viable tactical procedure?

Ogre strategy. Equip bows or ranged weapons on everyone but whoever in your party has the taunt ability (fighter). Move the three ranged fellows to the perimeter all on opposite sides. Command your party to hold position. Tell the ranged to attack the ogre. Taunt it with your melee guy. Then just run around in circles while your ranged pelt him. If your melee gets low on health, heal. Have your mage cast spells on ogre every now and again. Not terribly hard -- I didn't lose anyone on nightmare.

You realize by switching everyone to ranged weapons, you're exploiting the AI and making the game in general far too easy? That one trick will solve 95% of problems. it might be better to learn how to actually do it within the tools you're actually given (which several other people have suggested). I've seen enough videoes on Youtube to realize what a mess using all ranged weapons does to the AI, I think it's about as cheap as using forcefield on your main tank..

FFS the original post is 15 days old, I really doubt the guy is still waiting for answers, tearfully clutching his DA case and crying softly to himself. :)

Yeah using the tools that they gave you to use in-game is cheap.  Using potions is cheap, makes game easy. In fact, using spells and mages makes the game entirely too easy.  In fact, using high-level armor makes the game entirely too easy.  Wear massive armor?  You might as well be using a godmode haxx.

Only way to play this game without making it easy is to:

a) not use potions

B) not use gear, or any weapons past tier 1

c) only using a team of 3 or less, no mages allowed as mages are for noobs who can't play games

d) can't use talents past tier 2

That is the only true way to not exploit the game mechanics and play without making the game an easy cheese mode mess.

If you can't do that, then you need to /wrists -- /die because you fail at everything.

Having people use ranged weapons instead of closing to melee with GIANT FREAKING OGRES is an exploit? Sounds like common sense to me.

Common sense? logic? tactics?

NONSENSE

Real men fight like men and only go into the brawl in the nude with bare fists. fighting 10 revenants at the same time head on.

*sighs* forget it. Exploiting the AI is not the same as "using the rest of the tools you're given" running around in circles to keep the guy busy is just cheap. *shrugs* whatever. There's nothing wrong with using ranged weapons if that's what the character does as a specialty (one of the guards you're given does this). As could your main, but switching alistair makes no sense, unless you actually intend him to do bow work on the side. Mages, I could sort of understand using ranged weapons, they're very squishy. The fight's not so hard you have to resort to AI cheapness to win, just play on Easy if that's the case.

I agree it's something of an exploit when you use ranged weapons to attack one dude from a distance and only he responds, not his buddies standing around him -- and you just do that again and again til all are dead.  With the ogre, that actually makes a lot of tactical sense as a way to defeat one large powerful melee enemy.  I can't see how that exploits the AI.

What?

What would you do if a f***ing giant ogre was running towards you and wanted to pop your head like a grape?

Would you stand there and hope for your 1/4 inch thick wooden slab to protect you from the 4 tons of force running towards you?

I think not.

I'm sorry but your reasoning is absolutely ridiculous.

The method you are arguing for is called "tank and spank" and frankly it's a totally boring method of killing anything.  Tank sits there and soaks damage, just roll onto him and pop a pot when he's below 50% hp.

However, it IS "exploiting" the AI when you pull a mob 1 at a time and the other mobs in the group of 5 don't get pulled along with that mob.  Obviously that does not apply for this fight.

Legolas in LotR?  Totally exploiting.  Frodo, running away from the troll?  Hax.
