I have to say im really enjoying Mass effect the original game. I am actially probably one of the few that is still currently playing that game. I am trying to get as much enjoyment out of it as i can before moving onto to mass effect 2. I am a huge rpg fan, more so then FPS fan. My main reason for playing bioware's games is because they have rpg elements incorporated into them. Other wise i wouldn't be playing them.

I hear alot of hate towards mass effect 2, something bout downgrading all the rpg elements, no exp for kills and limited inventory, those sort of things. I am sort of ashamed cause i bought the game at full price and now all im hearing is negative comments from people. In fact on this forum there is more neagative comments then there is possitive comments. Is mass effect 2 really that bad? :( I was so hyped up for this game also and now im having second thoughts of even playing it. Though i probably will anyways just for the story.

I haven't read the rest of this forum posts, but I will tell you this:
I personally believe that the Negative comments about ME2 are here because the once who really love the game just don't have time for the forums right now (I do). But I might be totally wrong, but I must tell you, I really love RPGs as well, and I think ME2 is as good as ME1, but that's just my opinion.

Anyway, I think you should give ME2 a try, you can't just trust the forums.

Arowanna

One thing I didnt like about the equipment menu in ME1 was this.

I never really bothered with buying/selling since I just use what I get in quests, as I do in all RPG games I play.  Im the frugal adventurer.

So when I hit max item limit I got to spend forever converting all those items into Omni-Gel that I wasnt real hurting for in the first place.

I also like that in ME2 I can customize the armor color/pattern.  Personal Preference ftw.

The thing is, instead of improving the inventory system, they just removed it entirely. Which is just stupid.

I also liked in ME2 how I could change the colour on my armour, but it will forever remain the same crappy armour it always was. Pointless visual effects over variety and choice ftw? Why couldn't they have kept all sorts of different types of armour, but just added the option to change the colours? Oh, because it would mean people had to use their brain and actually think about what armour to wear? Silly me.

Ugh.  So I take it you went back to the store that same day to exchange or refund it eh?

Your posts go great with that avatar btw.

I'm glad they removed inventory from Mass Effect 2, it was itself really poorly done and also didn't fit the setting or character at all - who gives their special forces unit the bottom of the market weapons and expects them to scavenge additional stuff off the floor?

I dunno.  I think I'd take the guys who make their special forces unit scavenge for loot over the guys who provide their special forces unit with catsuits and stiletto boots for combat operations.

There's unrealism in either approach.  People don't miss the tedious looting, they miss the customization and the variety - whether that variety was worth it or not is up to the individual, but I certainly liked being able to put my little team of badasses into, you know, armor.

I am on my second play through and I am a little over half way through.  This time I have not awarded a single sqaud point nor have i done a single upgrade.  I can not tell the difference in difficulty between my second play through and my first play through.  None of the RPG elements in ME2 matter, at all.

However, ME2 in my opinion is one of the greatest FPS games ever made.

You do realize what an FPS is right?  You certainly aren't giving yourself any points for making assumptions like that now.

Also, try playing on insanity and making the same claim regarding your not distributing skill points and upgrading.  And in the off chance you happen to reply that you DID do your second playthrough on insanity... well, I'm just going to call you a sarcastic hate-filled liar and leave it at that.

When I mentioned side quests, I was refering to the NPC companion quests being more varied, numerous and interesting in ME2 versus those of ME1, IMO.    Every single NPC companion has his own loyalty quest and they are far longer than the first ME which had short quests for Garrus, Wrex, and Tali.  It's not even close and definitely not a step down.  Immersion and connection to companion NPC's greatly improved in this game.

I also disagree that "none of the RPG elements in ME2 matter, at all" as your dialogue choices matter as much if not moreso than in ME1.

uhh..hate to burst your bubble but that's part of what makes RPGs fun to play.  It's to bad you don't have the patience to create a truely unique character and are happy to settle for a generic one.

I can make a more visually unique Shepard in Mass Effect 2 than I ever could in the original.

Not going to read it all

post one : this is why game has faults (in a mature manner)

post two: Uz suck, game was awsom and perfek and uz all winers

no thanks

Simply put, the game doesnt have that life or death urgency to it that the first game had. You interact very little with your enviroment and unlike ME1 you change nothing in it. Nothing you do matters to the universe or game.

Your simply in a story and watch that story unfold with out effecting it.

Thats the problem with this game

no immesion

no connection

no characterization

no soul

Game forums are a breeding ground for complainers. No matter how awesome the game is, there are going to be plenty of complainers on that game's official message board. And generally, complainers drown out the voices of people who like the game (because people who like the game are usually too busy playing it to come here and complain about it). They definitely toned down the RPG elements in ME2, but that doesn't mean it's a bad game by any means.

Playing on normal or veteran is hard....

Try insanity with no upgrades/power/tech.

.... you sure you playing the same Mass Effect 2 we do? The game were the choices you make can (or don't make) determines whether your entire team dies or lives at the end? Where choices from the first game actually contribute in some small way to some of your decisions here? Where the loyalty of your characters, and how the universe percieves you, is determined by what you do?

This is the same guy who tried to claim Oblivion or Morrowind weren't RPGs.

You can never please everyone. I know i was pleased with ME2 and felt it was a vastly superior game to the first one(in my own damn opinion so dont bash me).

Thing is there are always people out there that can never be pleased regardless of games, music, movies etc etc..

Oh it's definitely worth a play. Just don't go into it expecting it to be like ME 1. For better or worse they took a different approach to MANY of the aspects of the game.

And I think there are plenty of people here who think it's absolutely perfect and cannot understand how anyone could possibly think ME 1 was better. Maybe you'll be one of those.

Definitely give it a go though. It's better than most other crap out there.

After reading some of the 'hate' I thought I'd bought something like Battlefield ME.
Fortunately, after a few hours I see this is not the case at all.
Still room for improvement, but a great game. I do regret the lower number of character skills.

And FFS BIOWARE, NEVER MAKE A GAME WITH QUICKTIME EVENTS EVER AGAIN !!!

Ahem...*cough*...I really hate quicktime events.

ME2 doesn't have quick-time events. The interupts are a simple button-click to perform an action by choice. You can pass them up, and I do purposely sometimes. There was only one point in the game where I had to reload because I missed an interupt that I wanted to click. All of the others give you plenty of time and it's just a decision of whether to be renegade or paragon, and often the situation will imply what kind of action Shepard will perform.

POST OF THE YEAR (No sarcasm intended)

And

To the OP, I would only add go play the game and see for yourself, either buy it, rent it, get it borrowed from a friend, whatever, just play it and make you own damn opinion, thats the ONLY one it should matter.

I played it and liked it. Good game, confused me in the end, but thats why I replaying it. In my personal oppinion this is improved ME1. Playing now on insane, and as a shooter its so much better than ME1 - i usually die all the time on normal in many FPS but this one just give me a chance to survive on insane if I use my brain (enemy don't rush, retreat and can be pinned down)

As an RPG, well, something is there and something is not, it all depands on a person, for me it all fine.

Oh.. and mining was actually fun to relax without anyone shooting at me :P

I really hope all the people saying "This game sukz" and so on dont actually make the devs think that they need to listen to that. Constructive criticism is always good but so many seem really ungrateful and just mean.

Most people are afraid of the new, whether it means in real life or videogames. There are many innovations in ME2 regarding the Gameplay. I believe Bioware is trying to advance the RPG-Genre and in doing so, they have to try out some new ideas in their games. I personally think, it works quite well in ME2, even if it may need improvements.

Most of the hateful comments about ME2 expose themselves to be unfounded and dull ranting. Like "Hey, I already played through the game look at me; hey my opinion is so much different to the great reviews".

Constructive criticism still remains rare unfortunately. People just can't write factually.

Not being able to equip one's party with proper armor is one of the flaws in this game. I really hate the FACT they dumbed down the inventory system to the point of stupidity.

Bioware removed, not improved.

The last time I checked they were different things.

I want certain features of the game to be done better, not to be gone entirely. I didn't like how the inventory system was handled, but I don't want it gone completely either. Heck, what happened to all the armors? The fact that there are almost more DLC armors than actual armors in the game itself is just sad.
