Oh and more armors would have been nice and bad bioware for not giving us the option to purchase/equip kaidens and blue sun helmets.

I wish the Mako was back, I loved the battle scenes. I didn't like the random wandering in planets though. But I guess I have to turn the switch on in my brain to start adapting to the bad qualities I have about the game. Still haven't gotten use to the scanning system but I'm trying to like it. It's like trying to enjoy geting punched in the face when it comes to scanning.

Remember guys when ME1 was first announced it was announced as the first FPSRPG(NOTE it does not say RPGFPS) People who say its straying away from rpgs are completely wrong. Still has customization(Awesome that upgrades are built into the suit so you dont have to switch crap out everytime.), but they've improved the game in every way. Still get Fantastic story with choices that have consequences(If thats not an rpg then wtf is).
Bottom line the Game is great. what ME1 did to make all other games look bad by comparison ME2 does to ME1. This game sets the standard for ANY game in this generation and beyond. People who hate this game would probably be better off returning to their ultima games.
And before i get flamed. I play more rpg's than any other genre

Mass Effect 2 is an RPG in a sense that you can control the conversation and its outcome. It also put emphasis on that YOU are the main character, so it put emphasis on picking a class and customising your character with armour and such. But for the life of me, I can't see why ANYONE would prefer the original Mass Effect to the Sequel.
Really, the main storyline was great and the main quest were good, not forgetting the awesome conversation events, but about everything else fall short on horrid design.
1. The Mako was horrid. Extremely bad handling, weak cannon, etc.
2. The Inventory System. Not only you have too much to trod through, yet it's limited to 5 per page? Even the Gameboy FFs have more items per page than this. Not only that, but you can't press 'cancel' if you accidently press a button to customise it.
3. Cancelling is almost non-existence, save the Galaxy Menu, where you press planets. There's also no 'convert all weapons to omni-gel'
4. Dead lifeless planets and you want me to explore it? Screw that, I prefer 'scanning planets' in Mass Effect 2, at least I get something for it.
5. Extremely horrid design when it comes to the planets. There are some which have too many mountains and obstruct my goal to reaching a 'geth base' or a 'Bunker with either thorian, cerberus or biotic terrorist'.
6. The upgrades and customisation were amongst the most terrible. Wide variety, but many of it was useless. Most criminal of all, it was made redundant by later models and lasty, combination mdoels which combines like Optics and Accuracy or Stability and Heat Absorption. It would've been better if you started off with the basic, but upgraded them over time instead of being given new upgrades like smarties.
7. This applies to one and two. Linear Level Design, with lots of corridors. Never bothered me really, but wierdly... in Mass Effect 2, there are a lot more linear corridors, with the Collector's Ship having more of wide-open space. Mind, I haven't completed Mass Effect 2.
So yes. Mass Effect 1 was a good game, but have terrible design. If the story, conversation and the core gameplay wasn't up to scratch, I would've called it an extremely terrible game and this, I would never understand anyone who prefers the original. So yes, Mass Effect 2 is a huge improvement, it's just considered as a 'bad sequel' as it didn't build on previous elements, but rather abandon them in favour of new, streamlined stuff.

I haven't lost sleep over that. I play many JRPGs for me to not care, especially when I didn't care about the look of the armour in ME1 as it was just bland.

I am on my second play through and I am a little over half way through. This time I have not awarded a single sqaud point nor have i done a single upgrade. I can not tell the difference in difficulty between my second play through and my first play through. None of the RPG elements in ME2 matter, at all.
However, ME2 in my opinion is one of the greatest FPS games ever made.
Am I the only one a little annoyed by almost everyone calling mass effect 2 a FPS?

So you enjoy the horrible inventory system, copy and past uncharted worlds, clunky combat, crappy mako controls and emtionless speechs in the first game? Wow.CatatonicMan wrote...
As far as I'm concerned, ME2 is sub par; it just isn't as fun as the original. I don't know exactly what caused it (likely an amalgamation of all the individual changes), but ME2 is lacking the soul of the original.

That's because all the fans of ME1
have abandoned ME2 after voicing their dissapointment and the ONLY
people who like ME2 are new-comers who have not played ME1.
would like to call bull**** on this one, i LOVED the original ME1 and
replayed it 6 times and yet i found ME2 far more satisfying than the
unpolished first.

This was one of the things that really annoyed me. The inventory system (aka lack of any) was depressing as well. And the plot, well, at least the end was epic. Too bad the beginning and the end was the only central plot.
Though, the combat was MUCH improved. Bioware gets mega-props for that.
