This thread really brought out the White Knight patrol didn't it? The heroes of a video game being depicted as young and attractive OH MY GOD I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY DID THAT HOLY **** EXPLOITATION RUN RUN RUN RUN!
No I just find it hugely ironic when someone who sits on a games forum argues that a character that looks like Miranda is ugly yet I would be hugely surprised if they were able to 'bag' a girl/woman who looked half as good. Ridiculously high 'standards' are fine when they're realistic...otherwise it's just stupid.

She mentioned in an interview here, that all Bioware did was scan her face and didn't perform any motion capture to mimic her facial expressions and how her face would look from certain angles. So it was bascially a static image plastered on a computer generated body.
However, that said, Yvonne Strahovski does have a "strong" jaw line (see pic here) so the odd overly masculine jawline which people have complained of, is actually "accurate".
I am unsure on which platform most of the naysayers are judging Miranda's looks upon but based on my 1920x1280 resolution @ 16x AA and AS, i daresay that she is hot albeit not perfect.

They only weird thing I notice in Miranda's face was her two front teeth were sightly longer than the rest, but her VA seems to had the same type of teeth so I guess that's normal. I just wish Miranda's eyebrows would move more while she's talking.
Teeth are odd and in profile she looks fine but there is something almost bloated about her frontal face view. The model she's based on has much sharper lines.

The Miranda issue is definitely an "uncanny valley" scenario. Miranda's character has a lot in common with Aida from Unreal 2, but if you look at Aida you can see that the edges are rough enough for the viewer to polish a lot of detail with imagination. Miranda is lifelike enough that you start to believe what you see, but that makes every flaw stand out.
BioWare did a great job (in my opinion) with the tech available. While theoretically possible, making the characters in ME2 (or even ME3) possess the lifelike perfection of CG characters from Avatar would have made this game take forever to make at a prohibitive cost, and the game would only run on the bleeding edge of gaming rigs - forget consoles.
All things considered, I'm impressed that the game both looks better and runs faster than the original.
