as i upped the difficulty and damage became more noticeable i realized that the melee units in the game could do splash damage so their melee attacks are really small area attacks. just a moment ago i was on a ledge and away from were a varren could hit me, it ran at the spot i had been when i jumped up and it did its attack, since i had no shield from shooting real threats i died from that attack it did on a spot i was no longer at.

while on hardcore i had been hit and if any of my squad was near me when a husk hit me they took damage as well.

on one mission i was guarding a unit that had been injured and another varren was charging so i placed myself between the target and the varren but we both took damage from its "bite attack" (haven't seen them use their claws when they attack, that could do damage to more then one person but all they do is bite).
